A tier list is supposed to contain ALL of whatever you are rating. You could have every hero here, and also not have THAT much tiers, just 3 or 4 would do, you almost gave everyone their own lol
Kinda disappointed to see so many guides for different towns start with basically the same generic advice as in: get angels, dragons, wyverns etc. If you go straight for external creatures to abandon your troglodytes on day 2, why does it matter that much which hero you pick? I feel like a lot of these „strategies“ are basically exploits of unbalanced maps that are only necessary if you constantly play on highest difficulty. I’m somewhat of a HOMM purist - I like the variety and specific features of the different factions and I don’t want to start every map with the same two or three steps. Just my opinion!
I feel like Earth magic is mandatory for Town gate on bigger maps. Small maps air magic. You need at least either one of those for good tempo in moving around the map. It's best combination if you can have both. Choice between water and fire is situational fully. Fire magic can be good for Iffrits+armagedon Water magic has clone, perfect for powerful stacks of units, that's basically twice the damage done because you get second unit(clone) and enemy has to attack it, so it eats up one attack, can be used to get rid of enemies retaliation while still doing damage. You don't need water or fire magic imo if you already have earth/air, as you don't get to spam so many spells in fights. Logistics is mandatory: Air magic dimension doors use movement points, Catching up to enemy Heroes Overall map tempo Offense and archery situationally, but offense is more versatile, You don't need wisdom if you can have other sources of spells but it's good to have, better to have more slots for artifacts than use them for scrolls etc. Morale good for mixing units, that's all Luck is lower than morale, it doesn't give anything outside of fight advantage You can easily get luck and morale of Artifacts Pathfinding is often very useful Etc etc etc.
Do new players focus on creature banks like Hives though? When I played back in the day when I knew very little about the game, I only bought units from my own towns pretty much. What do you consider a new players then?
Inferno sadly sucks. Id say that it has only few units that are good : cerberus because it hits multiple oponents without retaliation, Efreet Sultans high speed fire resist and fire shield than makes them quite a formidable unit. Arch Devils have a good boost of - 2 luck and teleportation skill. But it should have had a slight buff. Like +30 health or +5 dmg or atk/def stat higher by +3 at, least. Now they are expensive and in 7 tier losses against pretty much any other unit. Also fully upgraded gogs are more liability than asset. I don't get it why devils couldn't had natural fire resistance like 30-40% only efreets being immune to it. Now you nuke with gogs enemies and you miggt kill more your own units than enemies. It feels like devs made game campaign based to tell a story and left out a faction without any tweaks.
"I'd rather even play Inferno over Rampart" lets be real tho Inferno runs by the rule of cool, and everyone knows that being cool is cooler than being strong or viable lol
For Rampart, I pretty much like having tactics and expert water magic + prayer (although it is quite hard to get that spell in Rampart). It has pretty strong low tier units, so they benefit a lot from the extra speed/attack/defense bonus.
Tower is obviously the easiest one because it is both spells-centered and has three archers, I disagree with it being so low. Dungeon is also S tier because harpies are somewhat archer-like, especially when you haste them. Stronghold also has 3 archers but it is not spell-centered (and orcs suck), so probably A-tier. The thing about archers + spells is that you can mass slow and take down enemies without losing your troops, which I believe addresses the begginner's most crucial problem in Heroes 3 - when am I prepared to take down amount Y of monster X?
Funny, I played Heroes 3 for a very long time and not once had I ever considered Necro as the Strongest town. If its the Skeleton Exploit, then I am afraid that is nulled by Slow and Ranged Attacks. Vampire Lords are good but a skilled player can simply slow or immobilize them and simply outmaneuver them, nullifying their regeneration. Finally, Necro has very squishy Units aside from the Death Knight and maybe the Ghost Dragon. Maybe (Even though I stomped 100 Ghost Dragons with only 3 Stacks of Cyclops Kings with 30 per stack)
A weak faction. Mage Guild 3 is a serious handicap but add to that the fact no precious resource from silo and the slowness of these units finally the terrible terrain means just exploring your immediate environment takes ages.
do you have any other more beginner friendly tips? I am not very good at the game and keep losing to AIs on higher difficulty.i have been looking for a few videos but couldn't quite get what i was doing wrong.
Interesting tips! However whenever I try the blind thing, it seems the blinded unit immediately takes the next turn upon waking up regardless of how fast or slow it is.
Haha Rampart has been my favorite ever since i started playing around 12 years old. 35 years old now. Granted most of life i haven’t played. Recently have understood the strengths of Castle & Necropolis. Always wanted to like Tower more than i do.
You my friend are amazing, ive been playing this game with friends and siblings since i was a wee boy. The thing is ive never really understood much about it haha. I struggle against the default ai😂 but thanks to your breakdowns its totally changed my perspective, so psyched to play after work.
archery diplomacy or necromancy path logistics and scouting earth and wind magic is i always get no matter what faction or heroes i used ... point here is u must fast enough to get ur enemy
