I currently live in Texas at the base of the Texas Hill Country, and will be retiring to Alaska in 2-3 years, to the Kenai Peninsula. I will post videos on life in South Texas to include motorcycle rides, BBQing and Smoking meats Texas style, guns/shooting/reloading. I will also post videos from my trips to Alaska, the process of getting ready to retire and move to Alaska, fishing in Alaska, clearing land for the homestead, building the cabin, and everything that goes along with the transition. I may post some videos of political content, or commentaries on customer service; or the lack there of, that I encounter here in South Texas. I have spent 30+ years in various aspects of the medical field, in the military, civilian world, and with the Veterans Benefits Administration, and now as a contractor to the VA supporting a program to assist separating military service members going through the military medical discharge program. I love gardening and may post videos of the garden.
Thanks Weedeater!! I like to have "matched pair sets" of rifle and pistol. My most recent acquisition is .357 lever action rifle to match with 3 .357 revolvers.
My carry of many years is a Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8 barrel in .45 Colt. My hand load is a Nosler 300 grain partition pushed to 1,100-1,200 fps. The rifle,a Marlin 1895 classic in 45-70 with Leupold 1.5x 4x20 Pig plex reticle. I recently bought a Rossi R92 .454 Casull. I like having 10 rounds of 45-70 power on tap. I won't get a revolver in .454 Casull. A man needs to know his limits.
Thanks for watching and the comments Ralph!! I have a Rossi 45-70 lever action, which is highly effective, but not a lot of fun to shoot for practice. I do like my 454 Casull lever action for both it's power, and far less punishment to my shoulder!! lol... like you, I do have to know my limitations. My 454 revolver is a Taurus Raging Hunter. I think it's like a 5" or so barrel, and the barrel is ported. That really goes a long way to tame the recoil. I have a Taurus Raging Hunter in 44 Mag with a 6.5" barrel, also ported, and that thing just plain HURTS to shoot. I'll be making my big move to Alaska this spring/summer. If you happen to live in, or will be in AK, reach out to me and we'll figure a way to meet up (depending on where you are obviously) and you can try out my Taurus if you like. Take care Ralph!!
I got their half flap for 480 ruger, Cartridge carrier and shoulder strap pad, Very happy. As with most screw in attachments, Don't neglect to put some nail polish/ thread locker on the screw threads, Or carry zip ties if you don't
Just watched you two guys unscrew the plywood off of Jim's cabin door. SEVEN AND A HALF MINUTES !!! Are you kidding me??? I wanted to grab the screwdriver through my computer screen and stick it in my eye... Please, a little editing - PLEASE!!!
Hey Dan!! Thanks for the comment. If you knew Jim, you'd understand... LOL!!! It would still be frustrating as HELL!!! (trust me, I know)... and yes, since then my editing skills have improved greatly.
@@thelonemoose4718 No worries - I was just busting your chops. Just like the old bluegrass song : "I'm laughin' just to keep from cryin'". BTW, my brother just celebrated 50 years living in Alaska. I'm extremely jealous of both of you.
@@DanaUdapp Not a problem at all!! That's awesome that your brother has been up North for 50 years!! I'm envious!!! That's really ironic since it was 50 years ago when I first had the chance to go North, but I didn't have the self confidence at the ripe old age of 20 to do it... and have kicked myself in the butt many times over for not doing it then. A lot has happened since this video. Jim ended up buying me out of that property as he son wanted to move up there too. So I bought another property in Ninilchik, also on the Kenai Peninsula. Then after Jim bought me out, he ended up selling his place and moving back to Kansas City (where he and I grew up). Then 4 months after moving up there he bought another property in Funny River. He's going to be moving back up North about a week before I make my move in early May of this year. If you're ever up there visiting your brother, give me a message and maybe we can meet up somewhere and say "Howdy" for real! I really like meeting new people, followers and fellow RU-vidrs... Jim, not so much... lol! Consider that invitation open as long as I'm still on the topside of dirt!! lol...
My 454 Casull is the Taurus Raging Hunter. I REALLY!!! like that pistol! I have a chest holster rig for it now, and that is my primary carry mode. I have started making holsters again, so once I get moved up to Alaska this spring I will be making a cross-draw holster for it as well. I am a big fan of cross-draw holsters. I've made several for myself and friends for revolvers and small frame autos. I will be making one for a cross-draw 1911 holster sometime this spring. I'm planning on leaving TX in early May, so I have been so focused on getting everything ready that I haven't made any videos in a while. Hopefully I'll get a couple more done before the move, and once I'm up there permanently I'm going have a goal of 1 video per week. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned! I am not familiar with a Toklat. What type of pistol (and caliber) is that.
Thanks for watching. Considering I leave it out on the deck here is South Texas, with blistering heat and torrential rains, without any type of cover... it's holding up pretty well. The pull out ash tray is starting to develop some small rust holes in its bottom, but nothing serious. The powder coated paints are doing well, as are the grates. Overall, I still say it was a heck of a deal!
Thanks for the comment!! Absolutely I plan on documenting the process!! I do have some videos on the channel from my summer of 2022 and how I lived in the container for that entire summer. After this video was published, I have also contracted with a company to install helical piers for the container, 3' above grade at the lowest point. Once the piers are in, they are going to lift the container from it's present location forward 11 feet and set it on the piers. Once on the piers, they will weld the container to the piers. That should happen during the last 2 weeks of April. I plan on getting up to Alaska in mid to late May and get started on building it out. I will try to stick to a regular schedule of 1 video a week on the renovation to tiny home from shipping container! So stay tuned, I think you'll find it very interesting!! I have some cool ideas floating around in my head!
Thanks for watching and the great comment!! I think they are fantastic!! I used the left over "filling" tonight to make quesadillas!! Very good as well.
Thanks Riley!! I started doing that for my own reasons... I've got so many different holsters for different pistols that I sometimes forget which one goes to what pistol!! Call it "senior moments"... but I do like the concept. Especially since that basic pattern can be fitted to over a dozen different makes of pistols. Bill
@@thelonemoose4718 i have done the same. I used my laser cutter on some of my plastic ones, and may try it on leather soon. Yours have nice designs, mine are all plain and I have to see which guns fit... It's not just a senior moment...
454 loads that you can't shoot accuratly are a waste. The .45 Colt is easier to hit and follow up shots to the vitals. F**k the .454 and the 460. You said it yourself @4:04
Welcome back...Corporal Shelby here from the Big Island of Hawaii. Will you be doing any for a Glock 23 Gen 4 or a Colt Viper .38 Spl nickel? Only things I have to consider for concealed carry. The others (Ruger, S&W, and Walther) are too long? Thanks for any response.
Howdy CPL. Shelby!! (Stanley). I appreciate your watching. I checked with my other buddy and neither of us have a Glock 23 Gen 4 or a Colt Viper. Here is what I'd like you to do: send me an email to: LoneMooseBW@gmail.com and we can continue this discussion outside the main forum. Remember in the video where I showed you how I "measured" Joey and Diane's pistols by essentially tracing them on to craft paper. That's what I would need you to do for me for the Glock and Colt. Basically draw a straight line and center the pistol with the top of the slide/barrel on that line; then roll the pistol to the right and trace around the outline of the pistol. Next, turn it back up on it's slide/barrel, making sure it's still aligned with the straight like, then roll the pistol to the left and repeat. Once that is done you can do a rough cut around your tracings, I'll do the final cut. Once you send me your email, I'll send you my mailing address so you can ship it to me. There are a lot of questions we should discuss when making you a custom holster - like, right or left hand draw; cross-draw or strong-side carry; do you want any angle on the holster or just vertical; what color would you like; do you want lacing on the side that closes up the holster or stitching (You'll see what I'm talking about in my next video in a few days - probably Monday); do you want any special stampings (I don't do carvings - I'm not that good)? I have several stamps and military symbols. By Corporal I'm figuring that you're either Army or USMC. Once we figure out all of the details I can put together a price for you and see if that's agreeable. Does that sound reasonable? If you email me before next week I may not get back with you until Monday the 6th. I'm helping my son move to a new place in Little Rock over the next few days. Thanks!!! Bill
Hey Terrie!! I just saw your comment, I apologize for taking so long to respond!! Yes, I actually have 8!! and as many as 7 will be making the move north with me... lol!! Yes, I will be building a fence around about 1/2 acre, more to protect the dogs from moose and bear, than the other way around!! lol... The fence will be 6' tall and electrified on the outside.
I bought the same set two years ago, and still working just fine. I have to tell you these lights are crazy bright. Probably one the best part purchases I’ve made on my 2011 Harley Ultra Classic
Thanks for watching and the comment Dan! Yes, mine still work as well and they are so much better for my old eyes to see with when riding at dusk!! Enjoy!!
Good morning Roy!! I don't know about changing the algorithm, I went through a long spell where I didn't make any videos because I was dealing with a ton of personal issues... mom passing from Alzheimer's, dad having a series of strokes and ending up in a nursing home, step-son committing suicide, a killer (literally) Texas heat wave, and job issues. I'm coming out of all that funk now, so you should start seeing more videos coming your way. Thanks for sticking with me Roy!!
Boy that looks good. Never thought of old bay on wings, I'll have to try it. Speaking of the Bay, I just got back from my annual week vacation at Nags Head. Went out on a charter boat and did very well. Stay safe my friend.
Why thank you!! They are AWESOME!!!! if I do say so myself... lol!!! A deep fryer is a necessity of life in my opinion... lol!! If you try them, let me know what you think after you try them. Bill
This holster is outstanding! Like the last one you made for me for my Kimber .45 that replaced my Galco holster, I look forward to using this one for my first Glock. Great work from a great friend.
I am so happy that you like the holster Dan! I keep getting a little bit better with each subsequent one. Someday they might even be worthy of selling them... LOL!! You are a true friend Dan, no one could ask for a better one!! So, what's next??? lol
Howdy Stanley!! I took it down. My first comment I received on the first one said there was no audio, and darned if they weren't right. Somehow during the editing and uploading process the audio portion was lost. So I had to redo it today, so now you can hear the story... lol
@@stanleyshelby7460 you are very welcome. Thank you for watching!! I'm cursed with being a Historian by degree so I have to tell the WHOLE story... lol!! I do get complaints on how long some of my videos are, but I just don't know that I can cut out a lot of details. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated!!
You would be amazed how effective those C02 boat air horns are on all large animals. The 150DB high pitch blast is more painful to a bear than pepper spray or bullets.
