This is where the new arc starts. Honestly the moment the whole misunderstanding/rumors arc ends, is like my fav cuz I can't stand misunderstandings, especially ones that last for several episodes
The Point of the Anime is, that sawako first needs to build confidence in herself, before getting rushed in a romantic relationship. I don't think that pushing actually is a good thing, at least not in the form of just asking her out or driving her to ask him out. This would not feel natural and probably would not be good for her process, making her dependent.
Always nice to see a reactor who actually shares his thoughts, thank you for that. For a first time impression the general thoughts are not too far off the mark on the characters. I would make an exception for Yumiko though. Hachiman is an unreliable narrator due to his distorted view on society and people (the pack and bear passage at the start). If we remove his filters we actually see something more like this: Yui is an actual part of that friend group as she wants to stay friends with them. As we learned in the first episode though, doesn't speak up for herself and always avoids rocking the boat. So she didn't tell her friends that she is in a club now, or that she wants to eat with Yukino for lunch etc. She's just sneaking out. So from their friends', and mainly Yumiko's, perspective, Yui is suddenly distancing herself for no reason. In order to learn about that reason she asks Yui, but she keeps evading, which understandably annoys Yumiko, and it turns into an interrogation. Then Yukino enters and throws insults at Yumiko out of nowhere, that's her way of dealing with confrontation, like we saw in episode 1. Yumiko didn't insult Yukino or Yui a single time, she just wanted Yui to speak her mind. When Hayama intervenes, he doesn't support/protect Yumiko at all adding to her displeasure and started to sulk. In the end Yui clearly formulates what Yumiko wanted know about and they stay friends. Both, Yumiko and Yukino, wanted the same from Yui, to speak her mind. But due to how the story is told, and how we bonded with Yukino in episode 1, we automatically turn Yumiko into a villain here, when she just a concerned friend.
something very important that we learn about Ichikawa's mindset in this episode: when he thinks that he can't have something that he really wants he convinces himself that he hates it. He did that with the switch console, he did that in this episode with Yamada but he also did that at the start of the series. He wanted to be friends with everyone but thought that he's too weird to have friends so he convinced himself that he hates them and doesn't need them
There's more to come, but what Kurumi said about Kazehaya possibly falling for a girl like Sawako in the beginning of this episode already says a lot about what she thinks about him. I kinda feel bad for her in a way.
The sky's clear because the setting of the series is in the beautiful countryside of Hokkaido, the biggest and northernmost prefecture in Japan. That also happens to be Karuho Shiina's home prefecture. She's the mangaka of Kimi ni Todoke.
Thanks for reacting to this series. It's more relatable to Japanese people because a lot of them happen to be shy and have some difficulty with talking with other people due to a lack of confidence. That's why it's one of the most popular shojo anime series. ^_^

A moment you probably didn't pick up on when Kyo bought Yamada the drink. He bought her a milk tea, which is what she said she wanted to buy in the previous episode, and Yamada's friend wouldn't let her. That is why her eyes lit up when Kyo gave her the drink. She realized he was paying attention to even the smallest things she said.
😲 I just checked it again. Lol, that's incredibly subtle 😅 I thought it was coffee latte, then I read the label, it was milk tea! Wow, thanks for pointing that out.
@exuperistreacts yeah, this show is packed full of little things like that that are easily missed. Like when Kyo threw his bike in the river. Sempai kun was hitting on Yamada, but the only time she really responded to him was when he complicated her sense of humor. Then, when Kyo said he hit the gas instead of the brakes, she laughed and told him he was funny. While that whole scene was innocuous, it showed a little insight into what Yamada holds valuable, and that is someone who can make her laugh. While you can enjoy the show at face value, if you really pay attention, you will find the writers put a ton of attention into the characters and their development. Just a little tidbit for you to watch out for going forward.
Hachiman IS kind of correct in a sense. They’re both in the same class, yet she never once interacted with him until she came to the service club. This does kind of show Hachiman’s logic as somewhat reasonable that if the dog incident never happened… I highly doubt Yui would have ever met or even wanted to know Hachiman at all. Even with the dog incident happening, like I said she never once tried approaching him afterwards. I hope you enjoy the ride of Oregairu. Hachiman’s personal journey is really good, even if it’s painful at times to watch him regress and relapse in his defense mechanisms. Even with these first 5 episodes.. I do believe Hachiman had begun to change and little by little start building connections. But with the events of this episode it caused him to relapse to his previous state. Hence the episode title “Once Again, He Turns Back on the Path from Whence He Came.”
It only keeps getting better! glad you're enjoying The Dangers in my Heart. You also hit on all the points - the writing, the progression, the story itself, the characters but the music also adds how good this anime actually is. Kensuke Ushio's score of important scenes will hit you in the feels when you watch later episodes
Sawako's journey and how her feelings are portrayed in the show had my inner-teen healing when I first watched it 😌 The Japanese know how to convey feelings in their films, I've noticed that most works aren't much about stories and plots but more about characters depth and feelings
I know the show is slow, but I honestly don't feel that it would be as good if it was fast paced. Change comes gradually and we want it to feel that it is change and not just Kazehaya telling her want to do or how to feel. I think you'll like the show better if you don't look at it as a romance and more as a Slice of Life of a really introverted and bullied girl who is finding herself, frienship and yes, also love. The show in this early stage is not about them "getting together" Sawako still needs to find who she is before she can be someone who is with Kazehaya and I love that this show takes the time to do that!! That's why it is my favorite Shojo romance of all time! I think a thing that you didn't pick up is that Kazehaya did confess and that Sawako told him that all she feels for him is respect and although it's played as it being miscommunication, in actually Sawako has never felt romantic feels so she was being 100% earnest when she said that she feels a lot of repect and admiration for him (with "and nothing more" being implied) So, no .... my man Kazehaya is NOT going to ask again, he took her no as a no. He's a king.
Hachiman does have some right to be suspicious of Yui though, from his point of view Yui isn't really a friend since she treats and calls him a creep quite a number of times not to mention even though they have been classmates for quite a time she didn't approach nor tell him anything about the incident. In his mind, this calls into question if the number of good interactions they had were even meaningful since he thinks that the underlying and potential friendship they might have is motivated by guilt on Yui's end. Hence why he cuts Yui off here, his defense mechanisms are up. I do agree, though, that the fatalistic and borderline extremely negative view he has is not attractive to forming relationships but I think it's an interesting lens to explore the concept of human relationships in an otherwise formulaic genre.

Arrow on Aang's head mean he has reach the title of Airbending Master. Appa's arrow is just fur pattern. Most creatures in this world are made up of 2 or more animals from our would. Appa is bison and manatee. This is a cartoon not a true anime but it's beloved by anime fans so much that most considered it a honorary anime. This is 1 of the greatest shows to be made. And in most people view (me included) it's the best cartoon to ever be made. Also those hundred years in ice counted towards Aang's lifespan.
I adore this series, but its initial pacing can seem a bit slow compared to more modern shoujo series like Sign of Affection or My Love Story with Yamada-Kun. Romance aside, I love seeing Sawako develop as a character and gain confidence as the series goes on.
It is a slow anime and too convoluted at times. Like most of these romance types(most are pretty terrible). Still one of the better ones though. The characters are enjoyable and the humor is good. As well as being fairly wholesome and the funny art with Sawako, helps. I do remember getting annoyed, enough that I fast forwarded here and there. But I did like it overall. Hard to find romance stories that are any good, most are basically unwatchable. (Tomo-chan is a girl was a nice surprise recently, that was great)
In Japan, a folding fan is one of the popular Chunibyou-ish items, and Ichikawa thinks it's simply cool. But Yamada notices the scent of sandalwood used in it. A good scene to express the difference in mental age between the two.
Definitely stick with it! This show is insane in how the quality sky rockets as it progresses. One of the few shows in recent memory where there's no lows, it just keeps getting better episode after episode somehow even when you think there's no way it possibly could.
Oh, I did. I've finished watching the whole series, though I wasn't able to make reaction videos of the rest of the episodes. But I loved the show, and I definitely changed my mind about them.
