i have never seen one that jump due to this noise. but at the same time i have comments here that saying its too late that they saw this video and ended up with crank and no start. so i say spend 1hr to watch and do the job.
Number one tutorial video on the internet, lifesaving experience because of this video thank you very very much, and you also save me a whole lot of money😂
thanks for the advice. i guess if your installing a used one, then its probably be in the lock position. but normally the brand new one should already be in the unlock position.
I want to thank this amazing man. He saved me $1500 that's how much they told me to fix my tensioner. I did it on my 2017 Honda Pilot. On new body it's a bit different but same thing. U will have to remove Oil filter sensor totally to get to the lower bolt. Which I did and I installed new tensioner same way as he does. Car works great NO MORE NOISE!!!
Tnx for your reply. I found misfire, also I still have little noice even I replace this tensioner. Do you think I have to change hole, think, or I misaligned this tensioner? Let me know tnx
@@hetukpatel1835 touch the tensioner, if you feel vibration at the timing belt tensioner then your problem is at the timing belt portion. If no vibration at the tensioner, try removing your drive belt and see if the noise go away. also ticking noise with misfire also indicate loose spark plug.
i guess i could say any brand would work just fine. its a matter of how often you have to change it. I dont remember the exact brand Im using in this video.
The locking tab is the key! Hard to get to -- but positioning the visor to remove then getting the locking tab to click back in is the challenge. The connector was also a mystery until I watched this video. Just replaced mine -- and the video was worth gold! Thanks!
Both of my top and bottom screws broke off when I tried removing the old tensioner I had the 27mm socket to support it and everything, it was probably just old and haven’t been touched in years. Any advice of how to get them out??
the head of the bolt broke off? it would depend how it broke off. if the thread is not cross threaded, you should be able to pull the stuck thread using bolt extractor. drill hole in the middle and use the extractor. if it is cross threaded, you have no choice but to drill it our then tap a new thread.
@ABCDE Information I have the same problem with the noise, I was going to do the whole water pump timing kit while in there, but looks like it’s just the hydraulic tensioner that will stop the noise, right? Thank you
if you touch the tensioner and felt the vibration. then its just the tensioner making the noise. but depending on your mileage, if your close to your tbelt replacement, mind as well do the whole thing.
Thats just a conventional transmission fluid. Some shop just use the multi Import transmission fluid. I use them just fine. The reason they fail is because people dont replace the fluid. not because of aftermarket fluid. keep your drain and fill 15k miles interval and you will be just fine.
Do not use anything but Honda transmission fluid in a Honda it will not shift correctly and may damage your transmission! Don't use the Valvoline ATF for all transmission!!
Took me no more then 5 minutes to change it out the way you did! Thank you for the video. Was skeptical but figured I couldn't fuck it up more then it was already. Great job
Does anyone know if this problem will eventually make your car not startt? It just cranks not starting now. Am I fucjed cause I kept driving? ordered the part today but I still needed to drive around. Someone told me that the timing belt could’ve pushed the valves or something like that so now it’s not starting. Please or someone lmows reply?
sounds like your timing belt snapped already. pull the top cover and take a peek. jumped a toothed or 2, even 3, car will still start but will cause crank dtc for correlation. but the too much vibration from tensioner may break the belt.
Im really glad that 98% watched my video successfullycompleted the job and happy about it. I guess in return, I would like you guys to post some questions or video request. Im running out of videos to post. hahaha.
I followed your video and replaced the tbelt tensioner on my 2011 Honda Pilot. Everything worked awesome, took me about 2 hours (which is slow, i think). Thank you so much for going through the trouble to record your work. Helped me a TON.
Worked out well for my 2007 Honda pilot. I did need a friend to help as it was really hard to turn crank shaft enough and maneuver/set the tensioner and line up the bottom bolt. Thanks for posting.
I'm so glad I found your video. I have a 2012 Ridgeline was hearing this noise for the last month or two. I heard it all- (it's your engine, it's your valves) I went ahead and got the whole timing belt kit including water pump. All that to say my truck sounds like a brand new. Thanks a million for this video 💯
the time i replace the filter and fluid, the car already has 150k miles. but i suggest do the service every 30kmiles with the filter. for fluid drain and fill only, i suggest 15k.
because im a technician. not a parts guy. hahaha. just kidding. different year, different model, specially different belt manufacturer, different part number, different quality. this is an instructional video on how to replace and not how to obtain. thanks for watching
Mine had a sensor and a big bolt in the way of the tensioner bolts that I had to remove first, just be ready to plug it because oil will seep out. Thanks to you and all the comments regarding this job I really was afraid to skip timing like everyone else. I did change the serpentine belt and lubricated the pulleys as well , huge difference, sounds so quiet now, 2012 Honda Pilot 4WD.
your right. hahaha. i guess i forgot to get that part of the video. but to help you out, @8:04 showing the 2 12mm bolts. unscrew them, the plate would come out together with the sensor. then flip the plate, you will see another bolt holding the sensor in place, un screw that, then replace the sensor. hope that helps.
I just wanna add a little bit of icing to the cake so when I call Honda and specifically ask them, can they give me a price for the tensioner only being replaced for the timing belt? They explained to me that it’ll be $950 because it’s a 6 hour job and it requires you to remove the timing belt to replace it per Honda so let’s just say these dealerships or these repair shops are all about stealing your money and doing unnecessary things that don’t even need to be done. Thanks to your lovely video and my boyfriend doing the work. I saved a ton of money. Appreciate you yet again.
you really cant blame the dealer. they are not stealing your money. it just happen that i find a way to do it easier. but by the book, its a complete removal of timing belt to replace the tensioner. in real life, theres a short cut going to a store, but not all people, even google doesnt know that way. Only few people I taught this trick back at the dealer where I work at. again, this procedure is not certified by honda.
I had to leave a comment & say thank you for such a great video. Well put together. I had the same issue with my 2012 Honda pilot 8 I showed this video to my boyfriend & thankfully he followed the steps & was able to get the job done, which I am so thankful for your video. So appreciate u taking the time to help other individuals out, especially being able to bypass all the extra work of dealing with the other belts & removal of unnecessary parts. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🫶🏽❤️
Got a lil question .. I have a 2012 Honda civic hybrid but the code code come on as IMA on the screen … does that mean I need the whole battery replaced in the car because anytime I jump the car , it starts but after I turn the engine off I can’t start it again until I jump it again .. need. Help
replace your 12v underhood battery first. then when the vehicle is in ready mode. or engine running, check the voltage at the battery terminal if you have more than 13v. please post in comments again what you find
I just want to really thank you for your information and knowledge. One of the most informative RU-vid videos I have ever seen. Worked on a 2009 Honda Odyssey, and everything went smooth. It was a fantastic shortcut as opposed to all the other videos ive seen! Again saved me the hassle from taking all those lil 10mm bolts from the timing belt cover...Again Thank You for sharing your knowledge.
@@abcdeinformation3048Completed! It did not have nearly as much tension as I was dreading. 15 minute job, after supporting the vehicle. Mechanic quoted me $450 to install the part that I already purchased. Thanks for your help!
sorry but thats a customers car. i dont remember the exact year model. but they are pretty much the same. if theres no screw, the design is pretty much the same.
Thanks for sharing this with such clear and straight forward directions, especially doing the video by yourself. I checked mine like u had suggested and changed mine, bang on Appreciate!!!
