KAR--Kenneth Fingerlos, April Fingerlos, and Roy Grimm--are Jeep enthusiasts from the Denver area. Almost every weekend, you can find these three in the Fingerlos Shop, building one rig or another. They have a slew of upcoming projects planned!
All three are software and database engineers by day, and play with Jeeps on the weekends. Because of their three full-time software industry jobs, you won't see the intensity of builds you'll see in other channels, but this does mean you'll see real-world, everyman wheeling. And some cool stuff, like Kenneth's M715 build.
Their videos are presented for entertainment purposes only. They invite you into their shop to show you what they do to build on their own rigs. They are not a commercial shop. They love to share experiences, but the information provided is to be used at your own risk.
Thanks! This is the same setup on Penny, too. And this is just this end of the brake system--the M715 will also be getting the same Vanco Hydroboost setup Penny currently has. Stopping will not be an issue, for sure!
@@karoffroad I’m going tons on my gladiator soon and I’ve had a couple people tell me to run the hydroboost setup apparently it’s the hot ticket for braking tons. I got to see if my shop has one I can try out as I’ve never used that setup before. My xj was just running the ford brakes and an adjustable proportioning valve.
The hydroboost setup was new to me (April), too. The first time I hit the brakes hard on Penny in the pasture during testing, she was like Wile E Coyote hitting a brick wall. I must have happy-giggled for 10 minutes at the sheer fun of it. It took a little bit to get used to, but I absolutely love it on her now.
the springless design is so much nicer in the long run. only upgrade I made besides that was the bronze upper bushing so it can take a little more abuse.
Yeah, I debated a bit both for the 715 and for PennyTJ if we wanted the bronze bushings or not. Honestly the fact that the standard bushings were part of the kit and the bronze would have been extra won out. When the standard bushings wear out we’ll likely upgrade.
Nice video...when using bearing remover should have race on cone and both threaded rings should be inside clam shell..on tight bearing it would have damaged tool..rollers are what pulls race up and race holds them against and rings hold race in position
Agreed. it is simpler to access it, though still takes some work to actually get things such that the rack can come out. Just not a lot of room for anything around the CRD engine.
Timing light. Tune up staple in every tool box b4 1985. White paint to highlight the marks. I always started the car to look at the marks. Left the distributer loose to move the timing. When it's done, tighten down the distributer, your done.cool to see
My (April) dad and his brother were total gear heads when I was a kid. I have been around timing lights forever it seems, but I never learned how to use it. It was kinda fun to learn!
You're giving me flashbacks to "helping" my dad work on the '69 Rambler (that I eventually drove). I'm sure his timing light is still in the garage somewhere.
We had her up on the lift yesterday, and it looks like the damage was pretty minimal, as things go. Parts have been ordered, and I'll share the details in a future video. But indeed, fun times! She'll be back on the rocks really soon.
You know, you're right! I LOVE the technical aspect of wheeling. I so wish I could get into WeRock! I think that would be a perfect fit for my style. A girl can dream... As I think about it, this was not her worst trail breakdown. You know the stock three-piece steering column on these TJs... well, one of the u-joints fell apart on a TWO rated trail. She was loaded onto a trailer to get off that one, and all I really needed was a new bolt and a clockspring to get her going again. But this time, I was still able to drive her onto the trailer. That's sort of why Lemonhead is an up and coming project--because Penny's worst breaks are on those low-rated trails! LOL!
I am already looking forward to conquering this trail again--including The Cutoff! I just have to wait for Roy to get his MJ done so I have someone to run it with! And our friend Matt Ness ran it for the first time yesterday, and loved it--I bet he'd join us, too.
Thanks! We originally set it up as a wood shop. It wasn't until 5 or 6 years after buying the property that we changed from wood to automotive. And, 14 years later, that transition is still occurring... ;-) I have watched a lot of shop organization videos, and want to help Kenneth get it organized, but there are some piles I just don't want to get involved in... ;-)
Kenneth, I didn't know you had a channel. I found you while searching for mobile GRMS antennas. Your video was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I already had a NanoVNA, but sort of forgot how to use it, so this was great. I subscribed, so I'll be watching your future content.
Lol, totally get it. I have years of content I haven't gotten through. Y'all going to All-4-Fun? Rubicon would be a blast. Been a while, glad to see you all are doing well. Catch ya later April!
Awww, thank you! I likely will not be at All-4-Fun myself, but Kenneth will be serving as a trip leader. We leave for the Rubicon very shortly after that event wraps up. If I go, it's probably be because I couldn't resist the allure of Carnage Canyon!
You're welcome! April misses Black, as it's been replaced by another daily driver. But it's sitting out in the future project lineup--you may see it again!
Good to know! You're right--I haven't gone that route yet. But this was an EJS-managed run, so I just followed along like the duckling I was. But next time, I'd love to take that route, for sure!
Great project, l love these work horse military vehicles, especially ones that have the canvas top and fold down windshield like the Jeeps, looking forward to the series.
Thank you! We actually have a brand new project about to be announced, who's subject is even older that this M715. We are definitely learning a lot about these old vehicles, and are thoroughly enjoying the experience!
Thanks for the shout out of our channel. We will be following along to see how this built turns out. Like the other guy said, paint instead of bed liner. It looks so much better in the end and is much easier to take care of. For great military paints, check out the Gillespie military paints that are available through places like Rapco parts in Texas or Army Jeep Parts in Pa.
We must have watched that video all the way through 4 times in a row, catching new details every time! Thank you for posting that bit of history. I'm sure we aren't the only ones who really appreciate it!
Bob is a good dude! He sure goes out of his way to keep people involved in the hobby. FYI there is no G in Cummins. Please dont bedline the truck.... That wheel and tire package is pretty heavy, might want to consider a civilian wheel and tire setup. Good luck with it.
I picked it up on sale. Artec does that a few times a year. Don't remember the exact price because I had it on a shelf for a couple of years before I put it on.
Hi guys. Great video. Any thoughts or recommendations for me? I have a 2024 two door V6 automatic Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and would like a 2 to 2.5 inch lift. 80/20 highway or town vs off-road. I would like a complete kit with all control arms and shocks too.
My friend and I we just went for Thanksgiving for the first time I mean that was my first time he already won once and Thanksgiving. I will say a couple years ago and we tried the pointless spider, but we went a little late so we have to turn around we didn’t have enough time, but we have so much fun that was my first time in Moab and it’s beautiful. I love it. You guys did a great job.
Wait wait wait! I'M the only one allowed to have a Wolfbox mirror in my Jeep! What the hell, now I have to figure something else cool.... LOL!!! Thank you for posting this for us fellow radio nerds. I really want to get one of those now. Nice also because you don't have to have the radio. That is a total game changer!
We LOVE Wolfbox! Penny's will be upgraded this winter. You see a lot of video from it on this channel! There are two sitting on April's desk right now-- one for April's tow pig and another for Kenneth's JL. And Roy says he's definitely putting one in his MJ Crawler. April's been thinking of applying to become a Wolfbox brand ambassador, but hasn't done so just yet.
I don’t understand why so many have troubles with this obstacle. It’s a 4/10 at most and straddling the crack seems incredibly obvious. My last time there we had to sit and wait while a couple of rigs in front of us spent 30 minutes scouting the wall. We finally shot up the more difficult left line to bypass them. Poughkeepsie Gulch is the place of the second most overthinking in Ouray. The first being Black Bear Pass.
The perfect frequency to tune to would be 465.1375 as that is the exact middle of the GMRS band. If you get perfect SWR on that frequency, you're in perfect shape.
We think it's the front drive shaft still hitting the skid plate when she's flexed out. It only does it at that time. There's a plan to fix it this winter, in addition to the old lady creaking sound, which is the lower control arms rubbing against the frame. We'll be moving the axle-side mounts to address that this winter, too.
@@aprilfingerlos yeah, had a back half kit come up for sale second hand ( un opened) and never really looked much into them. Thanks for posting these. Will definitely be watching more
Glad it helped! That's why we started this channel--because we had 3 or 4 things to do on Penny that we weren't confident in doing. Hearing that it helped you makes us feel as though we're paying it forward. Good luck!
I have a 2022 JLUW and I should receive my Destroyer Sliders tomorrow. The instructions mention the “optional” frame drilling for the rear mount on both sides. Did you also have this in your instructions for the Rubicon and if so, did you opt to drill?
@@thegrimmjeeper I had the same thoughts. Plus, I figured since the rear mounting point was so close to the middle mounting point that the strength distribution of the slider in the rear would be fine. Thank you for the reply and for the install video!
