Hey man, loving your videos, very similar to the work that I've been moving towards lately. You mentioned about going to more writing sessions and playing the game a bit in LA. Any chance you could make a video about how the writing sessions work in LA. Being from Ireland, our scene is mostly bands which don't collaborate much. I've been starting to branch out and writing with people from other bands and would be really interested to see how it's done in LA. Thanks in advance. Keep up the great content. Mike.
Yo! I'm gonna be moving to LA in March after graduating audio engineering school to be placed with an internship. I would love to help you and your bands get their stuff a bit quicker tracking and overdubbing their layers it sounds like they don't get back to you as fast as you'd like! If you need a tracking engineer who is capable of full bands on short notice let me know!
Interesting. I moved from NJ to LA in 2012. In the rock metal/scene myself. LA used to be good, but everything i got was stuff that made me hate my life. Mostly people who were cheap and didn’t want to pay my rates, and not in my genre. And with the cost of living at insane amounts it was not a viable place for me to live. So i moved last year to portland. So far a lot better and self sustaining. I also lived in the valley for 11 years in LA. And yeah i agree about the high level of pressure to level up constantly. And there’s a ton of clout chasers in LA as a result. I believe this is from the high cost of living. When the first question is who have you worked with instead of ‘send me a link to your work’ it’s not a good look imo. “If someone comes up with a sick riff they’re gonna use it” yup and not pay you or credit you for it 😂. And yeah NJ/NY bands were super protective of their creative endeavors. Imo both are weird. Music is a collaborative experience and credit should be given to everyone involved. Also LA is VERY cliquey omg. It’s kinda disgusting in some ways. But i definitely noticed that NJ/NYC was more so. “Everyone is running in their own lane” yup it’s a big problem with LA no one is gonna help you in your journey if you can’t help them out (aka help them level up) and most people want to take advantage of you. It’s all about that hustle culture as you said. I’m not about that. “Plenty around to get food on their plate” lol nope. Not really. The market for artists and engineers is very over saturated imo. But hey if you got some good credits and a team behind you, maybe you’ll do better with your niche. I also think most artists in LA expect their engineer to also be a super talented musician to play for free on their tracks, which for me are two different services (especially since I’m not much of a musician more an engineer). As far as people i knew in NJ as engineers working full time? I knew plenty actually, though i will say i lived in the NYC area vs Philly so that probably had something to do with it. Most had their own pro studio and were older. I found it difficult though since i dind’t have much when i lived there. Honestly living in Portland the last almost year has really been the best of all worlds. Nashville actually has a TON of rock music. But LA has less rock music and more rap/R&B/pop. Portland has a lot of punk, hardcore, rock, indie, and experimental electronic music. Yeah LA is massive and I’m glad you are finding some success there vs what I experienced. I hated playing the game and the BS of LA. I know sooo many name droppers in LA it’s such a thing, consider yourself lucky 😂. Currently in a space in portland. It’s a house, i rent out two rooms and have two housemates. One room is in the basement for my studio space, the other is my bedroom. Most professional space i think I’ve ever had as my own even though it’s just a room in a basement. It’s what you do with the space :). LA was apartments or at my parents house. Both didn’t allow for loud noises. Now i can do that 😂. Cool that you partnered with a studio, i got similar deals a few times, but nothing fully panned out as i wished (due to clients not wanting to pay extra money for a studio space when i can just program drums and record everything else in my own space). Austin could be good too for your genre of music! But that being said i am glad you are doing well in LA though. Cause i did NOT get the space of my dreams because the pandemic happened and they didn’t want to mask or do anything. Good luck on the move!
You should make another song with the audimee ai vocals but you should try and get a voice similar to Anthony green from soasin. And maple syrup and pancakes everyday sounds like the dream life 🤤
I love blink but this record was poor. The mix was dreadful. That sodding drum sound and autotune that’s so severe it makes me want to cry. You’ve done a good job here mate.
Good video dude.. I try this stuff but it doesn't really work.. I more into just playing the bass and guitar have a metal band but really kind of wanting to just have some chilled out indie alt rock indie pop stuff.. anyways good stuff
@@alexmessingaroundhe uses Get Good Drums. He has all of their packs so he mixes and matches drums around. For guitars he uses amplitube 5 usually an orange with a ts808 overdrive pedal in front of it into a 4x12 with vintage 30s Bass is the punkbass plugin
