Yeah oK and fair enough and a great a point, but I'm looking at buying a 2010 to 2015 Prado in the near future, so what's the answer? Don't buy a diesel Prado between those years as they all could possibly have a piston that could potentially crack? This is a huge and potentially expensive issue and enough to not buy one! So what's the answer?...
Injectors are the most profitable component to sell that's why it's been pushed so much.. Social media spreads the word & the people u sell to actually promote it even more. This is modern day marketing .
This is really good info. I take my hat off you. Unfortunately you will always have a difficult time convincing Australians that maybe, just maybe, a Toyota engine has a design flaw. The irrational obsession with Toyota reliability in Australia has become a cultural standard. It's all founded on bullshit and blokey culture and slow talking farmers with kelpies telling everyone at the pub that a Lancruiser will last for a million kms. This video is evidence that an unbias analysis of engine failures doesn't have much to do with the badge on the bonnet. It's science and data and an open mind.
Agreed. It's called attention to detail. I was a ceramic tiler, a "finish" trade and while I agree with what you're saying here, regarding presentation remember this, like my work, the most important aspect to long term reliability, was the work I did, the client cannot see. In my case it was prep work, the waterproofing, using the correct wall primer, bond breaker etc, before sticking the pretty tiles on. In your case, putting the internals of the engine together, correctly.
Who said it was bad to block 100% EGR LoL. Remember you need a piggy back ECU to lie to the factory ECU to do this . Nothing works well with recirculated exhaust waste / heat . Did not work in the past and does not currently .
Brilliant Peter, well said. Toyota do build great and reliable vehicle's in the main. Unfortunate about these pistons. Prado/Hilux is basically a very good vehicle otherwise, I work on cars every day and other manufacturers are not without issues. Just have to way this fault into the equation if you own or want to buy one .
The good old Bitsashitty Mq no dramas , in 2017 $15 k cheaper than the Hilux i would have liked . So you Toyota dry Humpers better get a reality check , probably ride ktms too haha nah Toyota is not that bad . Although yeah what 13 k for a diesel rebuild fix . Great video thank you Engine Care , there is a tossa who is Toyo Fanboy injector salesman maybe a mechanic online banging on about injectors , had me convinced , Wanker !
Peter, your videos are second to none there’s always something to learn They ultimately help grow your business too, there’s a lot of talk about these videos and your knowledge in toyota groups
---Add the cracking pistons to the rest ---air filters no dirt capacity ,causing filter failure and pass dirt air boxes that flex to much due to restriction causing dirt bypass Radial seal elements work far far better . ---DPF are sorted out now but use huge amounts of fuel doing so ---timing chain issues Toyota reliability not so much these days Major problem is Tojam Australia not backing there own product . .........hmmmm
Load or heat or both plus poor design and a pinch of stuffed injectors . Whats the xtra load or heat caused by is a personal decision . But guaranteed the piston could be better designed .
Injectors suffer from wear and tare and have a shorter life than u would expect . 100k--200k Before they are real bad the fuel spec does drift and the owner does not notice . The biggest issue is the injector resellers always want to sell u injectors and have testing at $75----130$ per injector . This forces u into buying new . They claim its to much effort to recondition them . Basically in the industry even if u replace all internals the injector may still be stuffed . Secondly *****BOCH DO FACTRY RECO VERSIONS **** the kicker is try getting them in Australia . TRY getting ALL internal parts in AUSTRALIA its a joke the costing . Ozzys taking it up the A** again . Constantly screwed by resellers .
You sure are p*ssing into the wind telling people Toyota has design flaws in the pistons. Toyota has so brainwashed the faithful they will never believe Toyota won't last a million ks on one oil change. People are extremely gullible.
Well firstly mate, its not as if Toyota hasnt a LONG history with shit injectors now is it? How many iterations of injectors with the 1KD did it take before Denso get it right? Secondly, no matter what the issue, the result is the same. Total engine failure. And thirdly, your beloved Toyota has an even longer history of NOT addressing known faults with their products. That, sadly is the fact of the matter. 3 different models with the same fualt, zero effort to fix it-awesome!
Logical information. So you mentioned up to 2015 yet Toyota released those revised pistons in late 2014. Are you saying they made no difference given what you have seen come through your door?
Hey mate, can you tell us exactly what the design flaw is ? Oh an get ready for a bunch of GD motors in the future, EGR coolers are destroying a lot of them.
Well said. Sadly, many people have been mislead by BS regarding injectors. Sometimes to the truth hurts, but the correct info first up is always better. Good work👍
I love this video so much. For 13+ years I have claimed that the injectors are not the primary problem. I have tested 50+ sets from cracked engines, only 1 set has ever failed. The evidence is all around: You can have people running +30, +50, +90 all for tens of thousands of kms without issue. The cold knock that is failed injectors - is caused from a single cylinder massively over-fueling causing that horrendous knock noise. That doesn't split a piston then, but we're all told the injector that was so balanced you couldn't hear a knock, when putting in only 30-40% of the fuel (load) was the reason they split a piston... Your bang on. 1KD injectors fail for sure. But it should be conditional based on the numbers. Not some ridiculous arbitrary number like 170,000kms, OR WORSE, 7 years... Love your work. Great stuff.
