Outdoor adventures of a weekend warrior based in Richmond, Virginia. Spawned from my blog (sweetschoolbus.blogspot), which began with a road trip in a WVO-powered bus.

Moon Hoodoo is our personal favorite, but there are other great ones to try. If you drive along the Canaan Loop Road, you will have several loops to choose from. Download mtbProject or Trailforks ahead-of-time to help you navigate. If you're setting a shuttle, there are a few trails from the Loop Road which will take you into Canaan Valley Resort State Park and/or Blackwater Falls State Park. Otherwise you can create circuit rides which will loop back to the road.
The last time I rode the Hellbender Cirque it seemed to be overgrown, but hopefully the festival will mean it sees enough traffic to be clear. www.mtbproject.com/trail/6364700/hellbender-cirque
Thank you for uploading this video. I have a similar bus in my shop that’s killing me it has so many brake problems. I started backing the cable out of the parking brake cylinder and stopped because of how much tension was on it, worried I would release it and it not let the drum loose anyway. I hate the Wabco HCU they are garbage the entire system is trash and someone could make a whole business designing and marketing a complete retro kit to convert these shitbox MFers to air.
I have since installed a foot-operated brake. Found the lever in a junkyard, got a new cable from NAPA, then connected the system to the original cable with coupling I fabricated. Works like a dream. I'll try to get it documented and uploaded ASAP.
I rode there on April 28th, 2024, for the first time. The trails are fantastic and there are enough short climbs to make these trails challenging and fun. I've been off the bikes for a bit and these trails let me know my fitness level was not up to par. Will keep hitting these trails until I can rip at least two laps without flatlining.
@@sweetschoolbus"IF" and "When" you have an electrical, lighting, window, or framing type problem (especially electrical) how do you do you plan on getting access to it with this Hard Foam Insulation. You cannot find the problem. Very difficult situation you are in.
That's a fair concern, but the positives of having the wiring secured in the foam (less susceptible to the vibrations of a vehicle) as well as the protection against condensation behind the walls and the added benefit of another structural & soundproofing member convinced me this was the way to go. You're right, though, time will tell 😊👍👍
I liked watching the process. I had a short bus sprayed and the guy spraying had a helper, that trimmed it while the other guy was spraying. Took them a little longer, but it was ready to go when they left.
lots of wiring - getting closer. one suggestion: the wire coming up from the floor and splits left and right should be in a box. you aren't supposed to bury wire connections in a wall and cover. if you look at Chuck Cassidy's bus wiring you'll see every wire termination is in a box, very clean. otherwise looking good
I'm following chuck cassady's method of encapsulating the wires in spray foam. Hoping the forethought was thorough enough and I'll have power everywhere it's desired. I appreciate the advice, though 😊👍👍
@@sweetschoolbus It was just a suggestion…. Because Accidents do happen. … like a. Tree falling in a storm .. and hitting a spot where your wiring is located …. …. Or doing upgrades /renovation.. .. I. Ran all my wiring under my floor boards with access panels .. came in handy when building storage compartments underneath…. Have a fun. Day. Awesome job by the way …. Oh. Yea another suggestion… put a deck/storage rack on the roof …. I had a hammock and fire pit on mine. It was. Great. !!! lol
Very nice. Your attention to detail is second to none. Can’t wait to see what it looks like when you’re finished. Best of luck I’ll probably still a lot of your ideals. Lol
@sweetschoolbus it's pretty important for good compression especially on two strokes when you have scored pistons and cylinders. At 06:55 you can see a scored piston.
Schoolies make EXCELLENT Rv, HOWEVER it is almost impossible to boondock with it because once you add a modification as you have or paint it a different color EVERYONE knows it has been converted into an Rv. Its too late for you but what others should do is---- DO NOT modify the body & keep it schoolbus yellow. You can boondock in school parking lots. Thats about the only place you can boondock anywhere else and everyone knows you are sleeping inside. !
Good point. We're expecting to be in National Forests and Parks once we hit the road, but I'm sure you're right that we'll have to boondock some in between those stops.
I watch a lot of DIY camper type videos and this is the first one where I heard the person building swear. I know from personal experience working on that swearing is actually mandatory in DIY projects. This is the most "relax channel I've found. Love this video.
Thanks, Shawn! I'm so self-conscious of my narration, so it's nice to hear that others are enjoying it 😁 I just filmed my electrical wiring recap, so expect to see that edit soon 👍
Thanks, Donald! You may have noticed the wrist in a splint when I was showing the strapping. That was one of the surgeries...and yes, I'm back in action! Prepping now for the spray foam insulation, hoping to film some of the wiring I've completed for the next video 👍
