As a hearing impaired individual it’s hard to pick your voice out of the soup. The soup being your background music. I would certainly appreciate a clean copy. You are an experienced talker, I don’t think you need the fill. Thanks for your video.
I went to look at the ft5dr. I was ready to purchase. But when it would not show frequencies while scanning, that was an instant deal breaker for me. So I bought a pristine ft3dr, have had it over a year now, and it does everything I need it to do, including showing the scanning frequencies, and I saved over 200.00. Just my opinion.
The most annoying thing was the glare of the light shining right into your phone Next time, you might try turning it the other way or closing the curtains or something to reduce the glare
Interesting video. But it would have been even more helpful if you put the names of the devices that you discussed in the comment section and/or even better a link where you can get those devices.
I'm from the Civil Defense era, when prepping was a citizen's duty and wasn't bad. Cell comms are robust, but that's no "plan b." SoCal is going to have a big earth quake, probably wiping out every utility. These devices are a promising plan "B." Thank you for the post.
I have both, the FT3 & FT5. The FT3 does SSB and the FT5 doesn’t. The FT5 is IPX7 and the FT3 is not. I couldn’t decide, so I got both with plans to sell the one I didn’t want. FFWD a couple years and I still have both… 🤷🏽♂️
no link for the video about how to sign in / connect via IOS APP on ipad, via IP WIFI not BT !! no one tell that secret, se have to search 10 hrs to figure this out
Talking too fast? Why is that a terrible comment? The easy solution is to go to your setting gear and decrease the speed. I found it comfortable at .75.
Corrections and additions. 1) Everyone should stay as client, there is no need to use router_client if it can be avoided, client does everything router does, it's just that router doesn't wait as long to see if anyone else is going to rebroadcast as client mode does. Which means a router in a not advantageous position can actually impact the coverage area of the mesh. 2) Rebroadcast mode has no effect in any role but repeater. 3) Power saving only turns off wifi and bluetooth, the radio is still active while the device is sleeping and will wake up when the radio receives something - router and repeater mode both put the device into this state, so it would be rubbish if the radio switched off in power saving mode. 4) Store and Forward per the docs, shouldn't be used on any LongRange preset or in a region with a duty cycle limit. 5) Remote hardware is nothing to do with remote management. 6) NeighbourInfo is very spammy and can cause major congestion issues on a busy mesh, don't use it if you can get away with not needing it. 7) The firmware due out soon has a nice new feature where the Hop Limit that your node uses is stored in the header (HopStart) of every packet (just like the HopLimit is now) but while HopLimit gets decremented on every rebroadcast, HopStart stays at the original value. This means when your node receives any packet from a node with the new firmware, the difference between HopStart and HopLimit will give an indication of how many hops that packet took. Obviously a difference of 0 = Direct Neighbour. This should hopefully also reduce the need for people to do so many traceroutes too, because in the majority of cases people just want to know how many hops were needed not the actual nodes involved.
Never mind - found it on the apple store. BUT - If IOS only allows one device connection at a time, does that not make this a non-starter for serious meshtastic use???
@@slik560 No the device is simply a gateway to the 900mhz band. You would configure another device for another gateway to support another phone or a repeater.
Wow! I am an MSEE, PE and this is very impressive! I am N8VY and my RV has a Radio counter with various power/antenna connections. My system is very humble compared to your. Nicely done. I really enjoyed your video.
Got a few devices and trying to learn enough to create a system. Want to handle wife in/near car somewhere and cell down comm back to our homestead or me mobile. So, solar powered, good antenna at homestead and T_beam in car and Heltec with her phone on blue-tooth?? Not sure yet whether feasible in area with no other users (yet??). N8VY 73 Doug Good video, so subscribed.
Hi Mike, great video!! What is general MD location of Meshstastic node on repeater tower? Would like to see if I can transmit/receive to it without MQTT. Thanks.
You're in Florida and you are putting a node on a tower in MD. Okay, you kinda rock. I just put my first node on the air west of your (presumed) future node site and it is VERY lonely. Maybe your node will kickstart some more local interest. Looking forward to updates.
very difficult to buy the hardware, can't really see the project going far when the multiple suppliers can't even send out orders in a decent time period. waiting 3-6 months for hardware to arrive isn't gonna push this project any where but into peoples top draw.... because they give up on the project after waiting months. probably just my experience with meshtastic so far. mean while i can get shoes sent from china that take 2 weeks yet it months for meshtastic kit? lol 😂 what a fad
I concluded from this video that Meshtastic devices are like potato chips. Bet you can't eat just one. My solar panels arrived two days ago. My 8.5 dBi collinear antennas arrive tomorrow. I already had the 18650 batteries and 4 cell battery holders. I'm waiting for my WisBlocks to ship now that the Chinese New Year is over. I'm implementing a mesh network for emergency comms with my brother (2.5 miles west) and sister (2.5 miles east). I'm designing a 3D printed custom enclosure. Fun project, and probably needed soon! 😲
150 EU for the pico computer from Slovakia. I am not saying it’s not worth it. Interesting to see other options. I subbed to his ytube channel quite a while back. Can you program and or use add on chips to make those Wizblock modules accomplish the same thing as the other Lora devices? In other words, can it function as a stand alone text messenger with no Internet required?
I getting very scared. I watched one video 2 weeks ago on meshtastic and now 7/8 recommended videos are this. Especially after the recent news of nukes and civilian armies, and WWIII, I.. I don't know whats about to happen but I am so soo scared
It is the algorithm showing what you’re interested in. Same happened with me with motorcycles, then radios, etc etc. depends on what stuff you’re watching and engaging
@@0baakFPV 1 video doesn't show interest let alone the entire feed. Its like if I watch motorcycle crash and then every subsequent "recommendation" is how to build a motorcycle
Follow-up after watching the whole video...you're putting a node on a mountain in MD? Awesome! Which one? Hopefully will be able to test with you from my home base near Summit Point WV or when I'm mobile.
Hi Mike, are you still in MD? Saw Something about you moved to Florida? Well hopefully you're still in the MD/VA/WV area & have a question for you if you do. Re: Meshtastic, has there been any talk of adding solar nodes to the repeater towers in the area? I'm near Bluemont & know that a ham repeater is up on the mountain & would make a great node location! Anyway, I'm just checking in & subscribing to your channel & ❤ the Meshtastic videos!!
