"My 87-year-old dad's friend, Doug, showcased his strength in a Vancouver gym back in 1950 when my dad was 13. While my dad was doing squats with one plate, Doug, impressively, put his head down and lifted my dad along with the weight. Another BC Hall of Fame member and Olympian wrestler, Nick Muhammad, also worked out at the same gym. Weighing 160lbs, Nick could easily pin Doug over and over by breaking his grips with sheer power. The strongman versus grappler rivalry is as old as time.

Learning Transport Sports physical literacy is fundamental human infrastructure. I could not disagree more with the statement Ms. Brill has made here. We recreate, we commute. Simple as that. All transport sports are the vital knowledge link to greater life long human health and the well being of the planet and social order. Thanks for this wonderful interview.

I remember meeting Mr Hepburn at his shop in Vancouver back in the early 90s; he was 68 years old at the time. Seemed like a real gentleman. He told me he still squatted 600 lbs every day in his workouts, and that it hurt like hell, but he still did it. He also told me he could fabricate any sort of gym equipment for me if I wanted. I never took him up on it though, as I was perpetually broke in those days. I count it a real honor to have had the opportunity to meet him.

If you're interested , Eric Whitehead wrote a book entitled," Cyclone Taylor - A Hockey legend" that was published in 1977 by DoubleDay Canada - Toronto. Fred was an amazing skater. Fred was born in Tara, Ontario and the barber of the village taught Fred how to skate on the Mill resvioure. My mother, Elsie Maxwell was born in Tara in 1922. I think you'd enjoy the book Mr. Blair " Max" Phillips St. Catharines, Ontario Retired

What a great role model for up and coming athletes. Nice lady. Such a tragedy that she was injured. I do hope she is getting along ok medically and financially. So sorry this happened to her. She has so much to give as a coach and mentor.

Lori Fung is the most untalented rhythmic gymnast to ever stand on the Olympic podium. She only won Gold because the Soviet countries boycotted the Olympics. She is undeserving of her Gold in every sense of the word. She ran an RG club, but she never coached anyone. All the coaching was outsourced to other ex-gymnasts who had way more true skill than her. FYI, her club, Elite RG, is a complete failure at this point. The only coach is a woman named Katia who lives in her basement, and in exchange, coaches RG for Lori. Katia has only ever been a provincial level gymnast and has no business coaching anyone except toddlers. This entire video is an egregious lie and I hope you consider taking it down. She never does things 150%, more like 15%.

I did too ... Milk and egg protein in a plastic bag with a little paper label in it that said "carob" on it cause that was the flavor. It didn't mix up very well but it worked. I remember his shop which had his home made equipment in it and he was bench pressing when I came in and even at what looked to be 50 plus years old he was bench pressing 405 for reps.

Yes, Don Cherry played for the Vancouver Canyucks that year. Every player mentioned in the video with the exception of Andy Bathgate had won the Calder Cup in 1968 with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. In the summer of '68 the Amerks were sold lock stock and puck bag to the Canyucks in order to set up a farm club for the NHL team in '70-'71. Eleven members of the '68 Champion Amerks were on that Canyuck Cup team in '69 while Rochester finished last. I still hate the Canyucks for screwing us.
@mr.blackhawk142
@mr.blackhawk142 5 лет назад
OK, I knew the Amerks amalgamated with Canucks back then but I didn't know why? Thanx for that! That was some team to watch. I lived in Vancouver then and saw a few games at Pacific Coliseum. The older Canuck teams played at the PNE Forum nearby.

How come it took 16 years to get inducted? First time a U.S. team played for the Grey Cup and the lions came from behind in the second half to win it all Then next year calgary lost to baltimore! Fucking calgary! stampeders and flames SUCK

Next to the '94 NHL version, this was my fave Canuck team. Funny how so many of them ended up on the Houston Aeros a few years later and won a couple of WHA Avco Cups.
@mr.blackhawk142
@mr.blackhawk142 5 лет назад
Yup, 3 or 4 ex-Canucks wound up on the Aeros. Some more trivia. The highest scorer to play in WHA, who never played NHL. Larry Lund, another Aero. He told me that himself in Penticton. His buddy Larry Hale, ex-Flyer, and another Aero, coached me at his Okanagan Hockey School. Lund was also a Director there, IIRC?
