Love your videos! Especially appreciate your love of music and always finding your own way to making your music unique ❤ please keep posting, that motivates me to become a better harpist too 🫶🏻
Oh, this makes me miss the days when I played in orchestras! I played in a Tokyo-based community orchestra many years ago and was one of two harpists who regularly rotated between concerts! One year, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to play with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra as a substitute harpist. The regular harpist had to travel away suddenly for urgent family matters. My days of playing in orchestras are over, my life is too busy with work. I hope you will continue to play for those of us who cannot!
Thank you for showing your progress over the 10 years! May you progress even more, thus revealing God’s glory in your life and your passion for music!!!
6:24 wow, La Source has been one of my favorite pieces for harp I've been listening to lately, and to suddenly hear it made my day! So nice to finally find a harp channel on RU-vid!
The school could employ one of you guys part-time to tune all the harps every day and play whichever hasn't been played that day. Might make a difference..
Got my first 26 string harpsicle till I can get a harp and tuning this is a pain lmao 26 strings to tun individually but I like it way better than the violin
If you’re looking for another instrument in terms of portability similar to harp, you can try the lyre! They usually have 16-27 strings and you might be able to get levers installed on one (though the actual professional playing techniques are different you can translate harp pretty easily to lyre)
They only accept 2 new harpists into the program each year and I heard quite a few people audition each year so I guess it is pretty competitive? But they also have a very big and good harp program for those who want to minor!
A subset of #7: The one who can only play in her house slippers. If I ever perform, I'm going to be the only harpist who's ever played for people in formal attire and purple fuzzy slippers from LL Bean. That said ... WHAT THEY'RE COMFORTABLE!
The Salvi isn't an Arianna, it's a Victor Salvi 50th Anniversary model which is a special edition one - it sounds like an Arianna on steroids. I had an Arianna and my teacher (who plays a L&H Style 23 gold) tried it just after I bought it and she said she wished her Style 23 (which she'd had for 10 years by then) could do what my Arianna does as she liked the strong middle range - and that was when it was brand new and not even played in. That poor old Style 30 at the end really deserves to be brought back to life.
I stumbled across your channel a few months before you left for your mission! I'm sure you had a wonderful time! Also, I am very jealous of the space you have in your apartment! My apartment is quite small and I don't have room for a pedal harp, so my little Lyon & Healy Ogden have been keeping me company while the pedal harp is at my parents' house!
The style 11 is my favorite harp of all time! That Salvi is a very one of a kind special harp! The old black style 30 would sound like a whole new harp with a complete change of strings.
Definitely, if they were tuned (and played) frequently, and the strings were changed every two years or so, they should (I think) stay in tune much better; also, if played regularly, the sound on all the instruments should improve. If strings snap easily, a harp technician can check if the strings are pushing against the pins in the wrong way, or if the pins should have covers. Let the technician/regulator know all the issues you guys have with each of the harps, so he/she can figure out what causes them and try to fix them. Perhaps a different brand of strings might make a noticeable difference to some of the instruments?
Finaly I’ve found a vlogging harpist! I’m so happy to know they actually exists. (Well, that you exist) please continue making vids like this! Love from sweden❤
Yeah I couldn’t get a harp while on my mission so I felt pretty rusty! I had to slowly get back into playing the harp so I wouldn’t hurt a finger or anything😂😂
I just found your vlog a few months ago and was sad when there were no more posts. Congratulations on the new apartment and welcome back. My daughter and I just started harp in May. She has a prelude 38. 😊
Well, all harps are hand made. All have their own sound. And they all age. The neck bends. The soundboard bows. Their tone changes as it goes from new to needing a rebuild.
I love your channel and didn’t even realize you were also a member of the church! Your mission looks like a beautiful experience! I’m leaving in less than a month for my mission in Santiago, Chile East mission 😊
