I have this Henry Ortiz and the J-Js album. But it is wasted. We would play this album a lot in my younger days. You should upload the entire album. I can't find another copy.
Heh, I was getting ready to laugh thinking this was a Rick James parody, but this band rocks! Very tight sound with a soulful and funky bent to it with a little jazz thrown in. A great surprise! Thanks for uploading!
I grew up listening to this recording in the car with my dad Jim (the bassist and producer of the album.) it was our daily soundtrack on our ride to lunch at Shorty’s Mexican Roadhouse in Manchester NH. He passed away 3 years ago so it’s especially touching to hear this again here.
Interestingly, although the name is Afrizona, ( a mix between Africa where Lionel is from and Arizona where Dom lives) the album was recorded outside Boston MA not far from where my dad lived and where I grew up. He made many beautiful albums that were never meant for commercial success, but they had great music and we all loved the process. I had just started to play bass by the time this album was recorded so I hung around and watched the whole session. Usually the costs to pay the artists and recording studio would come right out of my dad’s pocket. Not sure on this album.
Thank you for your videos. I feel like a child again. The warmth and comfort of the memory of mom playing the big hi fi while I play on the shag carpet. I can hear her singing in the background rummaging around in the kitchen with the smell of something wonderful on the stove. I can't even begin to describe what a wonderful memory these things bring back. The visual memory the smells and feeling all from the sound❤
