When I first started Kendo, I used to think that it was too fast to tell the difference, but as I got used to it, I started to feel rather than see who won. Those with kendo experience usually also serve as referees during practice matches, so they can develop their eyes
seen enought. I ve been thinking a longing time about this subject. martial arts I would permit: brazilian Jiu Jitsu Wrestling Judo kudo . so called martial arts I wold forbit aikido ninjutisu kung fu tae kwon do sumo kendo karate muay thay boxing factoring of Katanas wold be permited. another japanese
Firstly, very cool. The fact the refs got it right without technological assistance with an error margin of less than a thousandth of a second is impressive. I cannot look past the fact though, that if this were a real combat situation, they would both be dead anyway. Still cool though.
My boys have been practicing the way of the sword for over 18 years now. My youngest has been in training for 4 years. 6 times a week for 4 hours everyday after school. Their hands, feet are always covered in blisters but they won’t slow down. My 8 year old reaction time is so quick that he will f up an adult in less than 1 second. Seriously I would not want to cross either one of them. I wish it would be more popular outside of Japan. We had to send our oldest to Japan so he could improve his technique and spiritual skills. There simply aren’t enough teachers especially good ones anywhere outside the borders of Japan. It’s not a very well known path ( definitely don’t call it a sport). People have no idea about the rules and the extraordinary hard work that goes into just placing and picking up your sword properly. For years you try to inflict the most amount of pressure on your opponent just to realize that it’s the most undignified way to practice Kendo. The one with the most patience and least aggressiveness are the real masters of Kendo.
„The difference was .009 seconds“ Referees: clear as day, red hit first Honestly, the fighters in Kendo are impressive but it’s also quite ridiculous how good those referees are at calling points.
it because it's not a real sword, and the aim is only to get the point (based on the system of the tournamen), they attack recklessly. If it's a real sword, they won't fight like this, and because of this, it also losing not all but some of the art of the real kenjutsu. The same thing with pencak silat, taekwondo, or karate tournament. They focus on point making, so the participant also focus on making a point to win too. and that way, they abandon almost all the theory and philosophy or the art of the real one. my point is not to underestimating this sport or insulting them. In fact, I'm trying to defend the origin art each of those tournament. as their origin, those things weren't mean for sport. But when it enter the sport word, it became limited and restrained by the rule and system. Look.. there are so many people are judging the art of sword by this kendo tournament. something like when judging pencak silat, karate or taekwondo by watching what happens in the tournament. and indeed it look chaotic or a kind of stupid too, watching those people in the tournament never using what they learn in training, only focus on aiyaa aiyaa aiyaa trying to grab a point, and abandoning almost all the philosophy of the origin art. but what would you expect. They've been restrained by the rule and system of the sport. For example.. kenjutsu. It means to kill people in one stroke by betting their own life in each stroke. and then they turn it into sport when all of those condition in real kenjutsu is no longer there. The same thing also happens in pencak silat tournament. The origin pencak silat means for grabing and breaking joint, or slashing vital point using kerambit. it means for killing. But in tournament, all of those weren't possible. They solely focus on making a point. And that's when you see them aiyaa aiyaa aiyaa things desperately trying to make a point to win the game. Regardless.., the sport itself is actually entertaining, especially when you can see the replay in slow motion, you can see how much effort they put in each stroke. But please.., don't use this to judge the real kenjutsu. the same thing like most of people judging the real silat simply by watching what happens in the tournament silat.. and then trying to compare it with the fight in the octagon.
