Im a special needs educator and Im currently the STEAM teacher. I used this video to make this medieval style catapult with my students and had so much fun. This onenis more involved/difficult to built then the other style popsicle catapult and while some of my student became frustrated at first because of trying to figure out how to do the binding with thr rubberbands ince they got the hang of it and were being encouraged to not give uo or be too tough on themselves they were so proud of themselves when they saw the final product and realizing they made it all on their own. The only help I did was walk them through the steps, made one with them so they could see the steps taken, and then for some I would hold the popsicle sticks together so they could bind them together with thr rubberbands. We then shot tin foil balls and ping pong balls at different targets around my classroom and had a little mideveal style war. 2 of my classes that I noticed struggle the most with building this was not because they're not capable, but it was because the staff (their paras) did nothing but complain about the project (oh this is too hard, I cant figure this out, ugh Im bored, etc.) This put those thoughts and mindset into my students minds. So what I did to helo drown out the negative replies was make my positive words and of encouragement compliments louder than the paras. There is NO need for adults to be acting like this just because they cannot figure out an activity or are unwilling to learn how to do an activity made for my students. All in all this was such a fun project. Not only that but it helped my students to work on their hand and eye coordination, how to bind or make knots (many of my students on the spectrum struggle with knot tying or tying show laces), it was also an activity that was challenging but not to challenging to the point their became overstimulated, and it also helped to build their confidence.
I'm trying to help my son make this but the bulb won't light with the motor. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong 😢 if anyone sees this message can you please lend me a helping hand to understand what I might be doing wrong? I would really appreciate
material nedded are 6 big popsicle sticks 4 peg 2 pencil 1 straw 1 small popsicle stick 1 small drink lid 2 small rubber bands 1 small wood block 1 peice of black rubber (or something) to absorb the shock ailfoil (to make the balls to launch)
