Yeah, but then as now, the gore and brutality amounts to -- if you'll pardon the expression -- a dick-measuring contest. "Can you top this?" Problem is, if you strip away the gore, is there a substantial enough story to stand on its own? I'm an admirer, and owner, of Fulci's The Psychic (also known by my preferred title of Sette note in nero). There is violence there, and gore, but also an interesting, complex story that stands on its own. The 80s was a dumber decade, though, what with all the slashers, and everyone had to keep up with the body count.
I just watched it last night. It's the best adaptation of Dr. Moreau I've ever seen. It's not faithful, which is good because the novel is a bit of a snoozefest and I don't know why it gets remade so much. But I was surprised at how good Twilight People was. It was fast paced and had some great performance.
Its not overrated at all. Its been a vision of damiens since late 2000s. Terrifier 1 and all hallows eve were niche, terrifier 2 is when it hit mainstream.
For some reason, when Art pulled out that gun, I just cracked up. It just came out of nowhere. Definitely a nasty film. I dug it. I still need to check out part 2 & 3.
I love this movie. The two main girls are so funny and to me, very likable. Like you, I wasn't a fan of the final girl and wished Tara was the final girl. I think the biggest reason the Terrifier movies are doing so well is David Howard Thornton's depiction of Art the Clown is pretty darn terrific. What a hilarious yet totally evil character! Original and effective. I agree this one is mean spirited to some degree but nowhere near like the second one, which actually was distasteful to me; not a fan of the 2nd one. (And apparently the third is also pretty mean, so we shall see. Lacking the two main actresses from the first one and the gritty feel, I doubt I'll like 3 as much as the original either.) I also agree w/ what you said about how 80s movie characters aren't unlikable. In fact I find so many 80s movies refreshingly enjoyable to watch BECAUSE the characters are so likable. I can't stand new movies, the characters are annoying just like most ppl are these days. lol.
Even though it’s simple and brutal, I think the Terrifier movies has breathed new life into the Slasher genre. Showing that the fans of the gore are still there and want more. The only issue is that it can and probably will lead to writers and directors going further and further with the violence in order to one up each other, or themselves, with every movie. Which could result in stuff like the Wrong Turn franchise. This at least has characters that feel believable and likable
I like the widescreen. Cube is a great show, so are the 2 sequels. Please tell me you just missed a spot shaving on your chin and that that's not some weird facial hair design....lol You're so cute.
I've never had the dab festbock, they don't carry it here but I liked the Holstein Festbock which is now sadly brewed in Canada now when you buy it here.
That little blonde kid Giovanni Frezza, was EVERYWHERE in Italian films from the early 80s. He was in those Bronx Warriors films, "A Blade in the Dark", "Demons" and a few others.
"Doctor Freudstein.. Wayoh! The Beast is back to business.. He has returned to the house.. Can't you hear him?? Doctor Freudstein.. Wayoh! Ready for surgery.. He's back in the house by the cemetery!"
I seriously have no idea what you were saying at the end there… It just sounded like a muddled jumble of nonsensical words, I kept replaying it over and over again, and I still can’t figure out what the hell you were saying at the end of it… And the captions auto generated also make no sense unless you have the worse grammar in the world…😂
Awww my first lucio movie! My mom bought a 4 movie dvd pack with this movie and the ghost galleon, I completely forget what the other 2 was, house aka zombie hell house was my first introduction to the Italian horror craze and I loved it ever since
@@SpookyCelluloid yea it was cut, the bat scene, the eyebrow chick death scene were definitely cut, it was super cool being a adult and buying the uncut version and finally able to see all that red gory goodness
I think we're on the same page, dude. I adore Fulci. I mean, for real, look at my damn avatar. I actually think House is the weakest of the gates of hell trilogy, but I still love it. I was born in 71, and I've always considered myself a bit of an anglophile, and I hated that whole "video nasty" stuff your government did to you, that was lame. My favorite TV show of all time is The Young Ones, and there was a line where Rik Mayall puked out the line "Thatcher's Britain" with abject contempt. I was just a little white American nerd in the 80s and I didn't understand shit about shit, but I did get that people across the pond were being denied access to movies they might have wanted to enjoy and I thought that was shitty. Let's talk about Bob. Poor Bob. It's really easy to hate child actors, and I'm guilty of that. But Bob was just a kid, he wasn't a producer, he had no control over his dubbing. He was a cute little kid and it's kinda mean to hate him, but at the same time, if I'm being honest, he was pretty goddamn annoying. It's not a deal breaker though, it's just another part of the charm of the movie. I just dig it when in current year people still praise Fulci. Keep on kickin' ass, dude.
As a French Canadian my relationship with the British has always been difficult let's just say that 😂 thank you for the comment and as always, Fulci Lives!!!!
Dude I only discovered your channel this year and I've been watching you all the time at work to pass the time and at home to relax. Love that your always straight to the point
