After having a successful career as a personal trainer, I found my absolute passion for all things human physiology and anatomy. Medical school has given me so much fulfillment, and I wanted to share how I have not only survived but thrived.
Hello! Recently was accepted into SGU and am super passionate about becoming a psychiatrist. Do you think I could message you about your experiences matching into psychiatry? Also, congratulations on this huge milestone! Best wishes.
@@medical_muscle_greg Thanks for the response! I'm taking a break from Instagram right now. Do you happen to have LinkedIn or an inbox on RU-vid? Thanks so much :)
@@medical_muscle_greg Thanks for the response! I'm currently off of Instagram. Do you happen to have an inbox on RU-vid? Or if not, do you have LinkedIn? I would say let's email but I would rather not post my email publicly lol
@@alexandriaalles7649 I have neither of those for communication and I agree with the email issue. Good for you for being off Instagram, it's a huge distraction but unfortunately that's the only way I have people contact me.
@@medical_muscle_greg okay, I just added you with a ghost account lol (no friends/followers)-just made it to communicate with you about SGU and residency. Please add 🥹
Dr. Greg, idk if you'll see this but I want to thank you. I watched your videos before starting SGU and they have always been immensely informative, motivational and inspiring. We briefly met when I started as Term 1 student and I never told you much your videos (Anki, Exams, island life) were such a big help. I'm now a MS3 aiming for 2 competitive specialties when I came across this video and honestly it makes me happy cry knowing that it's possible as long as you change your mindset and put in the work. So, even though I haven't taken Step 2 and have some time before ERAS applications next year. Thank you for continuing to motivate your fellow IMGs on this journey of medical school and life. Congratulations again and best of luck with residency
I make these videos for this exact reason! Very glad they given some value. I've really enjoyed sharing my content and I plan to continue for as long as I can. Thanks for sharing this 💪
Starting med school this year. I hope to make these kinds of videos about my journey. Very inspiring and it looks like you're in a good place mentally and spiritually. Keep the good info coming!
It was on the SGU website when I was a student, just like little videos to watch. They sent it kind of late for us so you still may get it but I’m not sure if they still do it. You could start by getting a PDF of first aid and skimming material like cell bio, biochem and genetics. Any cumulative anki deck should be fine. Once you start school, ask around for a good one but in the mean time, its just good to get used to how it works. Good luck 💪
The physical act of writing helps put knowledge in long term memory- even if you don’t go back to review it. There are many types of learning, this part is critical for some students
I agree, it can be very helpful for memory retention. For me it was helpful maybe in the first term but as I went I found that it wasn't the most efficient form of studying
This needs its own video! Do it because you love it. It’s pretty “low yield” relative to all your other application stuff for residency. Let’s just say it would never hurt your application, but it does have the potential to hurt your grades because some of these clubs require more work that can distract you from getting those high grades on exams.
I mean, I had the opportunity for research for the first time in my education career and I’m so glad I did it. During interviews it was never really brought up, everyone wanted to talk about my power lifting career in my personal statement lol.
I think Anki is better prior to rotation just to get a fast overview of potential content. But if you happen to pump out a few questions just to get a feel for what type of questions you could be asked in that specialty, it would not hurt!
Greg - I've recently given your RU-vid channel to a number of people who are currently in Med School. They are all finding your content very helpful! Keep up the great work. Gary M.
Great question so I found timed blocks to be the most effective for Uworld so to complete 40 question, 60 min or less. Then about 15-40 review post questions (depends on how tough the block was and how much I had to review)
@@medical_muscle_greg seriously it was chill to study with friends. Now ppl rely on us to be organized, precise interested and pleasant to be around all while being sleep deprived
