Bringing a touch of Alaska to those who would never be able to visit its temperate rain forest, clear waterways, and expansive tundras. From the bottom of the ocean teeming with life to the tops of mountain peaks laden with snow and glaciers. Welcome to the home of fins, fur, feathers and ferns!
Nice job on the video there. I'll be back up in the Sitka area fishing this year myself. Nice Kings and Halibut you had there. I did good for Kings in that same spot myself last summer. Had a real good Silver day farther East of there. Good luck on future trips.
As already commented, Deadliest Catch never showed this. And they have more camera gear than anyone. This is so fascinating. I never realized how smart they are. Makes me feel bad when people drop them into scolding hot water and boil them alive. I imagine they feel every ounce of that pain. I remember living in FL and we cooked crab. You could literally hear them scream when they hit the boiling hot water
Love all the awesome sunflower starfishes. It appears to me when the food was at the bottom they had to come into eat and was easier to eat then hanging upside. That one pot I watched, yes I watched another pot, it had it on the bottom which made more sense. First nothing could eat it unless they came in, when it’s on the top it looks like anything could snack on it from the top and never come in. Also when it was on the bottom the amount of crabs and fish chowing was amazing. They all wanted a piece and could climb over each other vs more limited space when you have to hang. Just an observation. I would just put the food cage to the bottom and not the top and do a experiment. Just seems more inviting to crabs, because everyone wants to be where the crowd is, and it everyone is hanging from the top no one will see them. Want those crabs to have fomo!
Super late to the party! I was shocked how long it took the crab to figure out how to get in. Caught pretty much everything but crab LOL. And one even escaped.
But it’s like all the movement the crabs make when they smell the bait attracts other crabs to see what all the fuss is about! I love crab, but lobster, shrimp and oysters are my favorites!
Little late to the party but, I learned that crabs are pretty smart they all made it out except for Big Bill who spent 10 min trying to figure out how to get in…. Fascinating watching all the fish and sun stars!! Thanks 2023!! 🦀🐟
BrO! You have your pot UPSIDE DOWN.. The bait is suppose to be at bottom of cage.. The crabs can feed on top without even entering the cage.. Also you need weights zip tied alone the bottom of your cage to keep it right side up.. see your doors are suppose to open inward from the top ,so when the crabs get in they fall down so when another crab comes in, a different one can't escape.. also if your pot gets moved around, and sand is builds up in front of the doors..the crabs can't open them.. But yeah Bro.. your pot is Upside Down my man.
Looks like a good haul on the shrimp there. I'll be in Sitka myself this summer at some point as my wife took a job up there. Unfortunately I don't have a boat up there. Have 3 in my pole building here and one in storage but they are thousands of miles away. Lol.
@@TanagirlAK ha! I’ve been looking at all these Alaskan, Canadian and Washington made pullers and that one is made right here in my own backyard in Northern California. Thank you, that brand never popped up in an internet search.
I use a pellet prawn bait soaked in herring oil. I’ve also put whole herring or fish carcasses in the pot as well. I want something that puts off a good sheen. Thanks for commenting!
I wonder how many shrimp you would get if you didn’t stop pulling until the last pot was aboard, because from the moment you disturb the pots, the shrimp go crazy trying to escape. Every time you stop, you lose more! Ever notice your last pots have fewer shrimp in them?
That’s a very good question Roger I’ve never thought of it that way. The hole they use to get in the pot is just open and doesn’t have a hatch that closes when they enter. I suppose it’s possible they could escape..hmmm! Might have to do some research this summer and see how it goes. I’m intrigued! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
I’ll dropped them in the morning and check them before night then leave them in the water over night and check them again in the morning. Minimum soak 4 to 5 hours. Thanks for watching Brian
It’s a 22’ Ocean Pro hardtop. I normally don’t fish with the pots on the back deck if I’m fishing they’re either in the water or I’ll put them on the bow and out of the way. They can also fit on top the hardtop but that’s where my dinghy is located most of the time. Thanks for watching!
@@TanagirlAK I've REALLY been eyeballing those Hewescrafts I want one but can't decide on the Ocean Pro 24 or Alaskan 250 I think the Alaskan may be a bit out of price range for me but I like the wide bottom.
Both of those are beautiful boats and I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with either one you decide on but you’re right, money makes the decision. Fish on!
Thanks America Outdoors, I have one on the starboard side but my port one broke prior to this trip. Since then I’ve got a new one for my port side. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic + Entertaining video you have here, Cloud Dinghy! Impressive drone shots at 0:31, 1:37, and 2:08! Thank you so much for all your effort to share with us your flight and your great work! I hope more drone pilots will see this work and get inspired to share their flights too here on RU-vid. I am personally looking forward to seeing more of your fantastic work. 😃😁
