Hi! My name is Carmen and I love sewing my own clothes and learning lots of new techniques along the way. Sewing continues to teach me so much about myself and my style, and I'm so excited to share this journey with you.
Good for you spreading this important information. I have over 30 years experience in the high end of the fashion industry as a designer and pattern drafter in Toronto. We often used cotton interlock and wool jersey in our lines and stablizing the shoulders and back neck is SO IMPORTANT. Any time I buy clothes elsewhere or online I'm always disappointed to see no one doing it (usually imports). I have a growing pile of tops I need to hand-sew stabilizing tapes into now! I won't even wear them until I do that. Even during the sewing process, the back neck can stretch out beyond what it's supposed to be, so the sewers get that tape on ASAP and carefully handle it before they get the chance to do it. I'm not familiar with this method you're doing, but we use 1/4" twill tape or a clear silicon tape and sew it just inside the stitching line before they seam the shoulders or finish the neckline however it'll be. When we make our patterns, we write those measurements on the pattern pieces (the raw shoulder seam length and raw back neckline measurement) and put them on the spec sheets that we give to the sample sewers and the contractors for the production. This is an important step that makes the difference between good quality clothing that lasts for years and cheap fast fashion that looks shabby in no time.
I'm sewing a Handkerchief with tow different fabrics Both 100% cotton. One fabric with a design, on one side and Flannel on the other side. should I use "Feather weight interfacing" ( non woven) in-between the fabrics ? Will the interfacing keep the fabrics from shifting away from each other after the Handkerchief is washed or do I need to run stitching across the fabric to keep them together ? Thank you.
I wonder why those shoes are so beautiful. Turn out there is blood sacrifice involved in the process. That is definitely necessary for any incredible shoemaking.
Very helpful tutorial with stitching instructions and was looking for such video for a while now i can try and stitch my first ever Bra😊 Thank you for sharing your experience.❤
I am SO glad I found your tutorial! the most helpful bra-making vid I've ever watched! I'm an avid thrifter but have not purchased underwear this way. I too have a bra I love and cannot find another one anywhere. Not willing to cut it up so working to get the cup the right fit. Then my journey to copying it is just ahead! Thank you!!
Thank you So much! I was So frustrated but I changed needle and thread , rethreaded it all and it’s perfect again! Blessings on you for sharing your knowledge. 💕
Great advice thanks! Yes, I'm big on using new needles now! My last skipped stitch issue, however, was caused by years of gunk built up in the hook race on my vintage Elna Supermatic. The bobbin case needs room to jiggle a little to work properly and the gunk was preventing this. After giving it a thorough clean it now works like new again, making perfect fashion cam stitches even at full speed!
Absolutely amazing. I’ve changed the needle and it cured the problem! I was really worried how I could solve this. Thanks to you I can resume my project. Many thanks for your wisdom. 👍🏽❤️🙏🏼
Thank you for showing this. I've been sitting here struggling with this loop Turner and couldn't figure out how to do it. My name is Zelda and I have a RU-vid channel called Zelda sews. I would love you to stop by and say hello! I love supporting other people who sew, so I subscribed!😅
Hi ...I am new to making swim wear ...I Am finding that after about 50 stitches I get a skipped stitch then another 50ish stitches ..then skipped stitch ...is it is the case that there will always be the odd skipped stitch as this is the best result I can get
This is beyond good! I couldn’t figure out how a T-shirt that had this was made. Thank you. And such an attainable finish with fabric from the project and a straight stitch
This is one of the most common clothing repair requests at Repair Cafés. This is really helpful! It's great to see someone just try and solve problems as they come across them. Anyone can try!😊
That is the first time someone has explained it and it made sense to me! Also love that the video is short and to the point. Found out exactly what I needed to know!❤
Thank you!! I saw a blue swimsuit with white piping on the neck and legs for sale US$120. As i already made some swimsuits , i thought that i would look on youtube for a tutorial on how to apply piping to the armholes and neck etc. AND i found you!! Thank you so much for this VERY helpful tutorial!! You made my day!! ❤
