@@AryLand1975 I went to summer school there. I used to park my bike at the bottom of the steps on Cannon St. and walk the stairs up to Golden Hill. walk over to Central High. Bridgeport was much different in those days. I was small child during WWII and the city was full of defense plants. Did you know the Thompson sub machine gun was made there in the West End. When the war ended the plants all went to hell, but had a reprieve during the Korean War, and after that it was downhill all the way. Remington had about 30,000 people working there alone.
Ill be honest I go to the milford one and its in my opinion in worse shape than this place like the big parking garage was falling apart in that one too and there isnt very many good stores there anymore
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, my brother performed in several plays at the Polka Dot Playhouse, but none of the productions took place at a venue on Pleasure Beach Island. The venue was somewhere in Bridgeport, but I do not remember where. This PDP must have been a different location for the playhouse.
My Dad used to drive me into Pleasure Beach & not going to Lie... it was scary to go over a wooden bridge!! It used to shake like crazy & it was very narrow! At the time, my Dad had one of those huge, boat of a car called a Station Wagon! Those things were, I think, longer or just as long as an Expedition or Suburban!! Fun Times though!! Bridgeport still had very quaint, beautiful houses... it was middle class. Then I turned into my teens & I looked around, it turned into a hood. A lot of the very good paying companies, Factories left, & crack cocaine became the market.
@AryLand1975, you call a Holden a car? 🤣 How am I a hater? To me it sounds like rubbish but that's just me so go have a cry or something! And the fact it's holden 😅 just makes it a rubbish that's ready to overheat 🤣🤣🤣
@juangiles1916 hahahahahah... you can't read... I didn't call it a car.. lmao. You just clowned yourself.. again.. leave the car stuff to us man... you are just a hater. #rubbish 😆
Due to it slightly being in danger of closing according to research, I will not be attending, especially due to the surrounding neighborhood. However, as a resident of Stratford, a town just right next to Bridgeport, I do know people who go here, and I know that it is a decent school. Maybe I’ll go to one of their sporting events eventually?
I grew up on Seaview Ave from the early 80's til about 2000 and I honestly appreciate finally being able to see Pleasure Beach in it's glory days. God Bless you that was a treat
I wished the camera men back then in Bpt would had drove around & record the city , drove through the neighborhoods , the parks & most streets , interview the residence, interview kids & teachers at schools & also city officials instead of just focusing & taking pictures & recording one main area such as downtown main st , Fairfield ave , & park ave “ Barnum festival parade,”..but hey that’s just Bridgeport for ya with really not much to look at
Thank you so much for your coverage of Bridgeport. As a UB alum, it’s always good to see the campus and take a stroll down memory lane. I wish the city would invest in Bridgeport’s history. There’s so much of it there!
Thanks for the tour. My dad was an LVN down at the nursing facility at the end of the road the GE building was on. I cannot remember the name of the street or the facility. Is it still there? Thanks again.
Warners/Warnaco used to have a store there. In the early 90's the store closed(If I remember correctly) then it became part of their offices. Late 90s I did Security there for them. Before that there were homes there.
I remember it well! I was a kid and remember the factories hustle and bustle b4 the Union went on strike and Remington decided to close. I remember the Trolley that used to go from the factory underneath Boston Avenue to the storage bunkers in Remington Woods off Asylum St. My parents still live on Dover AKA "Remington Village" (Bond, Dover, Remington Streets and Palisades Ave)
Just think it was built before pt Barnum had his 2nd house built in Bridgeport and was also built just 3 years after his first mansion burnt down which was no doubt his most beautiful mansion out of the 3 he had built in Bridgeport.
There’s no reason that this bridge is still closed smh … Ganim said 8yrs ago this will be his top priority to get this bridge up & going , & as you can see nothing!!.. even the mayors before him has done nothing… in addition the artic st bridge was knocked down some yrs ago just to build a park , as if we don’t have enough parks smh. Open these bridges & it will alleviate traffic & congestion. Major traffic every day on Boston ave & North ave.. imo if these bridges were open it will alleviate traffic jams ,accidents , & road rage.. what’s the purpose of paying these high car taxes if our streets are still horrible & the bridges are still closed
oh I wanted to cruise back in time to my childhood & came upon this video , but dear, that music is just horrible, so bad...please save it for raves or whatever you call them these days
I remember walking those streets . Late 60s went to school at st, Charles , then to Blackham Middle , and Central High . We lived on Main street above a plumbing supply store . Across the street was Sorentos Italian market . The family that lived above was a woman and her son who had just returned from Nam . He was fried .
My dad was a tailor there, and then later at Read's at the Trumbull mall. My mom and I used to walk through the Arcade, enter Read's through a side door and go visit him at work. As a kid I loved riding the elevator which had an operator who opened and closed the metal gate and called out the floors. Memories!
