Born Zibokwakhe Johnstone Mnyandu on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast at Umkomaas in 1963, famously known as Phuzekhemisi which translates as "Drink at the chemist". He became a musical activists for peace in South Africa in the traditional Maskandi genre. His lyrics are infused with commentary and political outspokenness over issues that affect fellow KZN dwellers.
He is one of a few musicians from the region to draw attention to the largely feuding system of tribal chieftainship and hostel leadership. His work was seen as threatening and was banned from some hostels in Zululand. Phuzekhemisi continued onto stardom never losing sight of his key objective - to bring peace in his community. He made a duet album with the famous Ndebele musician Nothembi, celebrating their different cultures. His music, very traditional has urbanised Maskandi and brought it into the mainstream market like no other musician has ever managed to do.
