Buddhism is the teaching of Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) about the truth of life and universe. His teachings include such concepts as the Four Noble Truths, Karma, and the cycle of rebirth (reincarnation) and offer ways to liberate ourselves from sufferings and reincarnation. It is a whole school of teaching called dharma which is much older than the word "religion". Buddhism is still a popular "religion" nowadays with millions of practitioners. The first step to becoming a Buddhist is understanding basic Buddhist beliefs and this Ego Podcast will help you decide if Buddhism is the right religion for you. If so, you can practice Buddhism and take part in centuries-old traditions.

This episode was random and whacky and lacked contextual continuity. Mostly, this podcast is amazing, but this dropped the ball completely. Constructive criticism, of course

Why do you keep showing images of Jesus when talking about "god". That seems awfully arrogant and Christocentric. It's also funny, since the Buddha predated Jesus by over 500 years. It would be like asking if Christopher Columbus believed in L. Ron Hubbard.

As always, thought provoking content! Key take away on a personal note: "craving" in a materialistic & consumerist world - superfluous. "Craving" in a destitute physical & psychological state - survival.

Awaken to the truth: The Buddha told us phenomena is a dream, a bubble and an emptiness, nothing can be had. After learning the truth from the Buddhas, which is more important for you? Seek to attain rebirth into Western Pure Land or save the world? To attain rebirth into Western Pure Land should be our priority. Save the world is second important. If you cannot save yourself, how can you save others? If you are not an Arhat, Bodhisattva or Buddha how are you going to help deluded sentient beings? You are drowning in the sea of sufferings and yet you are attempting to save others? Isn't this a foolish person. Loosing a life is already bad, to lose two lives is really a fool. 🙏🙏🙏 Amitabha Buddha

Too bad you didn’t mention Barlaam and Josaphat. Buddhism has been in the west indirectly through Christian teachings and the Story of Barlaam and Josaphat where he becomes a Christian saint since people at that time couldn’t see the difference with extremely limited resources.

Buddhism is a way of life, like Taoism. The Buddha likely never existed. He fits a monomyth profile from antiquity. Buddhism, looks inward to the self. Abraham. Looks outward to magical nothingness. One helps you feel better now. One helps you live till you die without dealing with real life.

Westerners are not interested in Buddhism because the religion is not profitable.....it does not call for killing, conquering and subjugating of others for personal and state's gains.....not to mention no promise of Heaven and eternal bliss with the big Man...

Those are not the reasons. My opinion is : 1) It takes time for the mass to become familiar with it, especially the fact that Buddhism does not going around to " bring good news ". 2) Its very difficult for most people to give up attachments. This is true for even traditional buddhists.

People do not fear with death at all in Buddhism. GET A GLIMPSE OF THE BUDDHA DOCTRINE. BE HONEST IN YOUR ATTEMPT TO COMPREHEND. THE ORIGINAL BUDDHA DOCTRINE. --------------------/ The Buddha is the first person to say “ No person is an untouchable nor a noble Brahmin by birth. A person is a noble Brahmin or an untouchable by action “! He was the first person to understand and explain from a Supra-mundane level, the concept of sub-atomic and Quantum theory, the concept of Anicca, Dukkha, Anatta, Yamakaya and Akalika. The Original Buddha Doctrine is different from these " Hindu/Jain" derived concepts, that are being spread all over the world, by people who have not entered the Path. That is why the Buddha reiterated that one should teach only after entering the Path. There is no Maithriya Bodhisatwa nor a Maithriya that is to come down from anywhere, except in the Hindu/Jain hallucinations, now being foisted into the naive people who have been following the Buddha Doctrine. The Path has to be seen through one’s fathom long body. “ Behold, O monks, this is my last advice to you. All component things in the worlds are changeable. They are not lasting. Work hard to gain your own salvation."-The Buddha’s final words of advice. VAYA-DHAMMA SANKARA, APPAMADENA SAMPADETHA ANICCA means that “ All component things are changeable “ DUKA is suffering which everyone knows about. Whereas DHUKKA is the sequence of events that constitute a thought, cessation of which opens the door to the Path. The Buddha Doctrine was mainly about opening the door to the Path and seeking the contentment and Happiness of Nibbana. This is Cheto VIMUKTHI. Many authors have it wrong. People talk about Duka, but one of the main concerns of the Buddha Doctrine was DHUKKA. The Buddha spoke of ANATTA, which is basic in His Doctrine. It means NO SOUL. No me. No I. Which means there is NO person, except the senses - from smell. Sight. Hearing. Taste. Touch, Mind and memory. In the Dev DAHA Sutta, He Categorically states " If anyone says that, what one endures is a consequence of previous actions " that is NOT the Buddha Doctrine, but is Niganta (Hindu) doctrine. VERY CLEAR. -The Buddha- Bhawa means one thought. PUNAR Bhawa means the next new thought. Therefore it is the thought that follows one after the other. Thoughts follow in succession millions of times in a lifetime and it is called Samsara. Therefore it is obvious that there is no me/l/ person to be reborn. “ Bhawa niridho nibbanam “ means eradication of the thought process, is the key to enter the Path to nibbana. The thoughts follow in a sequence and there is no KAMMA as described by the Hindu/ Jain faith, where there is reward on one hand and punishment or damnation on the other, as is the case in Christianity. This concept of damnation is questionable and will NOT last with intellectual dialogue. It is obvious that there can be no judge nor central celestial computer outside this “ fathom long body “ that scrutinizes TRILLIONS of thoughts and actions, of billions of people, to punish and reward the perpetrators of good or bad. BASIC INTELLIGENCE CLARIFIES THIS. Perhaps a new branch of Science, such as via EPIGENETICS that should shed some light on the consequences of thought and action called KAMMA, which leads to the resultant or VIPAKA. ( Every action has a Reaction ). The Original Buddha Doctrine, before it was mixed with the Hindu faith, is Supra-mundane and Supra-cortical. Even the concept of Anicca and Anatta is at the level of Quantum mechanics and sub-atomic particles. When a body or any object is dissected to the last of the material form, it is correctly called Dhamma after which it is a non-material aspect and no form called “ information “. On the contrary, Buddha’s Teachings are correctly called “ Buddha Doctrine “ or Buddha wachanaya or the Buddha’s Teaching. One has to stop the process of Bhawa and Punar Bhawa to enter the Path through Pragna and subsequently reach the stage of Dhamma. Thereafter one sees Buddha and Nibbana. Difficult to fathom, but it is a process believed to follow as steps automatically, after stopping the thought process, after being in a relaxed state. The Buddha spent 6 long years doing meditation and found it to be futile, where he collapsed many times due to starvation and extreme emaciation. He realized that nutrition was important for all mental and physical activities. Thereafter he left the 5 colleagues and did the reverse of meditation, which was not concentrating or being mindful of any thoughts. He left the world of being in the mind and entered the Path. That must be obvious to any intelligent person, as the incessant mental activity is the enemy to the Path of Nibbana. Rebirth of the incessant birth within the mind, is the Sansaric journey, that needs to be arrested. Not these mundane false concepts such as rebirth of the person. Do your research and enter the Path, through " Cheto VIMUKTHI" which one could follow, listening to Dr. Gamini Abhaya MD. FRCP Consultant Physician/Cardiologist with NO fee, through Denageneemen Nivanata via the Internet. Until one enters the Path to Nibbana, by entering the first stage ( Sowahn) it is incorrect to teach or preach, which is like BLIND LEADING THE BLIND. About time people used their own intellect without believing hearsay. NOTHING YOU SEE IS REAL. Your brain, you and the external universes do NOT EXIST IN REALITY. --THE BUDDHA -- Even the great genius Alfred Einstein found it difficult to understand this. The father of quantum physics the great Neils Bohr from Denmark, explained it to him and yet he was not able to fully comprehend it, but agreed that it was correct. The Buddha saw it all and they wondered how He knew all these things. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UWHYThrfRYU.htmlsi=8rVnMUVDhcTnZYUK This was correctly espoused by the Buddha, over 2500 years ago. These people are struggling to extract His theories for a long long time, without giving Him credit for it. “ CHITTENA NEEYATHI LOKO; CHITTENA PARIKASSATHI “ " චිත්තේන නීයතී ලෝකෝ; චිත්තේන පරිකස්සතී " This explains it all, as to how the citta aspect of the mind, creates ourselves and the external universes and initiates rotation ! Buddha knew the best solutions for every little problems, but he focused and taught on how to eradicate the root cause of all problems. Today, most people use it only for little problems like anxiety, depression, etc while ignoring the root cause. While it is not wrong, but it's not the main purpose of buddhism

Is it difficult to practice Buddhism? It is not difficult to learn and to practice Buddhism. Learn Buddhism is to attain a pure mind. What is the purpose of pure mind? Pure mind is wisdom. Want to overcome obstacles and resolve all issues in our lives, you need to have wisdom. How to have wisdom? Wisdom is our innate true self-nature we can't seek for it. Wisdom is within not outside nor acquire from reading many books. Wisdom unfold when one's mind is serene and free of worries. Wisdom comes from meditative concentration. What method do we practice meditative concentration? The most convenient, most efficient, most effective and fastest way is chant the Buddha-name Amitabha Buddha. One can chant in any places , any conditions, if one does not need to think. Chant Amitabha Buddha means one has no wandering thoughts. No wandering thoughts is cultivating for pure mind. Wandering thoughts are the roots of cancerous cells. No wandering thoughts means no worries, no illness : everything is smooth, enjoy well-being, good health and longevity and happiness. So easy. You don't want to believe, what can else can the Buddha say? 🙏🙏🙏 Amitabha Buddha

Lucretius said that "death is nothing to us" because when you experience life, you are not dead, but when you no longer experience life, you are NOT. But there's more... For me, it's the transition that will be rather sketchy, and that the hope is that I am strong enough to experience that until I can't, and that someone could be there with me as that happens. Beyond that, there's that record collection to pass along. ;) Buddhism takes us further along this idea, saying that being born and dying happens all the time, and that we are not independent selves, we are, to try to say it right, non-self beings. And if that is the case, and if the case of rebirth and/or reincarnation is the case, we just do our best in this life, so that in the next life we will be better even than that, no matter what the form the Universe gives us. And finally, most important, we need to take particular care with the Noble Eightfold Path, and starting with Right View, and so on, along to Right Concentration and even beyond, we do what we can to help others in their present lives, and as they embark on another.

Buddhism helped me to transform my life...to find the meaning and essence of my life...that is it helped me to define myself. It is absolutely a philosophy based on scientific evidence for being absolutely happy in life. It is certainly not a conventional religion. Yuval Noah Harari, is a living example of profound wisdom based on Buddhism in today's world. Hence he is not understood by 99% of ignorant people of world.

What nobody honestly tells you about engaging with a staggering number of buddhist organisations, teachers, gurus and their supporters, etc.: Every marketing aspect, aesthetics, or (childlike) stories and other angles, like nowadays often also science based approaches, etc., are gateway drugs to get you addicted to Ajahns, and Bhantes, and certain practices, and schools, cultures, and organisational forms (monestaries or whatever) and all the other worldly stuff. Whereby genuine seekers for truth and openness get framed, victimized, lied to, set up, manipulated and even threatened, hacked, surveilled and mentally, structurally and physically harmed-not as an idea, but in the real world. To their long lasting harm. Organized Buddhism is a selfish and broken thing. Like the medical system, the money system, corporations and so on. Corrupt. Don't wanna take the advice/warning? Well, good luck, and see for your self. Don't get harmed as I got. Good luck.

Become sensetive to your desires. Life is simply the desire to move from point A to point B. Become so aware of your desires that you know what you will do before you do it. When the thought arises at once let it go, forget it, do not attach to it thinking if you don't your life will be affected. You will discover something amazing.

Purity, Equality and Enlightenment constitute the highest guideline for cultivation. What is the goal of the 84000 Dharma methods? It is to eradicate attachments, discrimination and wandering thoughts. Methods means Dharma Doors. Every one of the cultivation methods helps us achieve this goal. If any cultivation method does not have this as a goal, this method is not the teaching of Buddha. Cultivation must lead to eradication of afflictions. Attachment is an affliction arising from erroneous views, and thoughts. Discrimination is an affliction arising from numerous delusions. Wandering thoughts is an affliction arising from ignorance. Avatamsaka Sutra said: All beings have wisdom and virtues of a Buddha but cannot attain them because of their wandering thoughts and attachment. This explanation tells us that the Buddhas and us are equal. Then , how do we become different from Buddhas? Because of our wandering thoughts, discrimination and attachment arose in us and turned the One True Dharma Realm into Ten Dharma Realms, the Six Paths or the Three Evil Paths. When you understand this , you should help all beings. It is important to take note that One must help oneself first before one can help others. 🙏🙏🙏 Amitabha Buddha

"an unexamined life is not worth living" -Socrates 2:51 It's like seeing your mother in jail.. seeing your father being tortured and neglected. 6:16 There's a slaughter "factory" where I live, and it's a known fact that people who stay in that "profession" end up having a lot of mental health issues. Their humour is sick. When animals are seen and treated like objects. There's no limit to what one can do to them... 11:19 We don't need to test our makeup on animals. I can tell you that if a rabbit could choose, I think they'd say no to the mascara.❤15:19
