My best friend and I moved to Hamilton in 2004. I found the people is Hamilton to be so very cruel. Had people drive along next to me at 4km/hr trying to photograph me. Been pulled into a car by a group of males. Been told I look like a prostitute in 'those boots' ( they were just Doc Martens). Been basically homeless for over 10 years. Stayed in a friends dis-used farm house. First night couldn't breathe, had to get all the dead vermin out of the walls. Had to get my friends to hitchike up there to help me dig the drains up and unblock them from all the tree foots growing into them. Got the toilet flushing. Winz helped with insulation. I took a loan out from winz for glass and had all the smashed in windows fixed to stop the cold wind in winter as I was getting pneumonia every year in the colder months. Staying with my best friend at the moment in Hamilton. He hardly ever goes out. There are some colourful people in Hamilton but we are hiding away. Something needs to change with this city. Because you are right in saying Kirikiriroa is not rainbow friendly. And I for one am saddened enough to write this. Subscribing and hitting like now!
I wrote and recorded a song called K Road. The K rd Buissness Association didnt like it but George FM played it at night.I lived at 3 thirty three all my family and me.
Worked in k'rd for 6 years, lived there for 4 years and can totally relate to these people and their stories. loved being a part of the K'rd community.
Thank you to this organisation for the support for the people 💕 RIP Lofty even though I never knew you, you had a big ❤and being much involved in helping others. We don't want to see NZ look like the streets of America, homeless every where struggling to get help plus no help for them with a huge waiting list.😮
Thank you so much for having the courage to share your journey. Nga mihi to Dave & the whanau at BBM. I am a recent fan of this series which showcaes the space of hopefulness that is created by these Samaritans. Bless you all.
