Hi! I'm Julia, and I giggle too much. Oh, and I read. I read a lot. Books and tumblr and dance and funny things are my kryptonite....OH NO NOW YOU ALL KNOW
I actually love almost everyone. Especially you, the one reading this right now. Just for you, TEN POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR.
As someone who works at a bookstore this is super accurate lol. My personal favorite one I’ve gotten is do you work here…. As I stand there in a branded shirt with a radio and I’m shelving books off of a cart XD
i work in a bookshop and this is SO true! especially people asking about when a book is coming out in paperback, and people not knowing anything about the book except maybe one word in the title or the colour!
I’m a pain to ask book recommendations I’m just trying to make it quick so i don’t take too much of the worker time then my ADD kick in and I jump on an other book recommendation QwQ and I’m sorry
im starting at a bookstore soon and my biggest concern right now is dealing with those people who dont remember anything about the book. what should you do when that happens? should you ask if they remember anything from the title, the name of the author, plot or genre? and if they cant think of any if that just say you can't help them?
This reply might be late, but as a bookseller for the past 4 years, my method is basically playing 20 questions with the customer. See if they remember the author, maybe a character's name. I'll just start punching those keywords into Google and see what comes up. Works most of the time, otherwise I just tell them to get back to me when they get more info, lol. Also, if you're in the bookstore long enough, you accrue a mental inventory of books. Someone says "I dunno, it was something Crawfish" and you have had a bajillion people in the past three months asking for "Where the Crawdads Sing" because everyone and their grandma has it for their book club read, then you'll know.
I don't know. I worked part-time in a bookstore for a few years. There are millions of titles, and many more millions of people. You can't expect everyone to know about everything that's out there. Take people where they are, especially if they are potential customers, which people asking questions certainly are. The customer is always right. Always. They are not wrong or stoopid to be asking a question, any question. You help them if you can. There are few things more annoying than employees with attitudes.
What's up with the books in back? I got a re print of a book ( it's not illegal but had to be in the Back?) Is there some secret section where non pc books are
I could be the person that doesn't want a bag but a few secouds later asks for one xD "Do you need a bag?" Me, wanting to end this social interaction as soon as possible: no thank you Me, totaly needing a bag and hating myself for saying no and awkwardly walking to bookstore girl: ehm excuse me? Can I get a bag? ^^""
Oh my god this is infuriating (not because of the video. I love the video). I too work at a bookstore. Literally all of these have happened. Rip. We also get "I heard this book reviewed on the radio but I don't remember anything about it. Have you heard it?" Oh yeah the review this morning while I was working? Totally. Grrrrrrrr
I work in a library and I can so relate to these questions. "Ummm I don't really remember what the book title was or the writer, but the cover was blue in the 60s when I read it, can you help me?"
I think the best question I've received so far is when you're standing behind the counter, wearing the custom uniform and you are asked: hi, do you work here?
I am so awkward that I was afraid one of the B&N workers would find it annoying that I couldn’t find a certain book series I wanted but I knew the titles of all of them and the author but I’m just a nervous wreck lmao
I was at Barnes and Noble today and I literally heard a girl ask a worker “Hey so I’m looking for a certain book I don’t remember the author and I think I know the title can you help me?”
