Love your comments and pov. All the fish we eat at home is stuff I catch mostly surfcasting… yellowtail, Spanish mackerel, flounder, flatheads, sea bass, etc. The cats enjoy the scraps too. I also do a little offshore fishing. Thus far, I’ve only caught a few footballs. But, where I fish we are only allowed to keep tuna over 40” or 66 lbs. I’m now pivoting to focus more on tuna.
personally, im not a sporty guy. express boats all the way. i would want a Carolina classic with twin inboard diesels, not nearly as expensive as a big sporty, trailerable for winterization, and still rides like a boat twice its size.
This mostly applies to single or twin outboard boats and not the million dollar center consoles but I think the biggest difference between a sportfish raising fish and a center console is money oddly enough. The smaller center console is typically a boat that you can grab a 12 pack of ballyhoo and drive around all day trolling for $150 in fuel and bait. A sporty fishing all day and running may be $2000 in fuel and bait. That means you have to be more dialed in to make it worth it and really study where the fish are going to be vs driving around till you find something. Also most people that fish three weekends a year are going to buy a center console not a sportfish. I think the more it costs to run the boat inevitably the more dialed in you have to be and the better crews you get fishing the boats
