Just a couple of Dorks that love the smell of engine oil and BMW in general (except for the 2021 4 series... yuck!) We will work on our BMW e30, f32 and sometimes anything else. We are not mechanics or are associated to BMW group in any way. Needless to say, we work on our cars at our own risk, and if you do decide to follow our shenanigans, please DO YOUR research to make sure what we do can be applied to your car. I am trying to upload 1 or 2 videos per month, but.... getting parts is painfully long for these specific projects, so bare with me and let's enjoy the ride

I mean the 6pin connectors. The OABR is 20 pins. In any case, I’ve decided to buy the adapter harness because I’m a little busy the new few months. Thanks
@ryanl2016 I have installed the radar, the brake pump and wiring, I had to buy another ICM and waiting for it… also check this out, airbags are back ordered until August 30th. I ordered them in july.
@@DorksandBolts oh no! That stinks. Can you explain why you need new ICM? I have heard that they register crashes / airbag deployments but I’ve only heard that as a rumor, never verified one way or another. You couldn’t clear the error with ISTA or reprogram with E-SYS?
@ryanl2016 yeah you don’t need to get a new one, you can definitely reprogram and it will reset the count to zero. That was my preference, i decided to get a new one because I am waiting for the airbags anyway and security modules I do want to have them without a single error or chance to fail. But that’s my personal preference.
I just changed these out and they don't appear brighter than the ones that came with the car. Weirdly enough, I almost think they're dimmer than the ones I had before for some reason. No idea why
It’s gnow this danger, never flip the acsm, airbag module wen u have the ignition on because the computer understand u flip entire the car and blow all airbag 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Yeah I know, I got to trusty and thought I could start coding stuff without tightening. If there is always one thing I always do when working with ECUs is disconnect the battery. Accidents happen
@@Dennistr0310 if you followed exactly as to what I did, there is no reason for it to not work. The only reason is that the unit doesn’t have the components for heated steering

@@DorksandBolts Got it, was curious since the first videos in the series are from June/July and the later ones are from November. Just curious, I retrofitted NBT EVO but I didn't do the ATM module. Do you think it's worth it to retrofit it to get Connected Drive working and in order to use the BMW app?
@JPDenali so at the time I did my retrofit, it was still an option for a dealer to update the EMEI and ICCID to the connectedDrive servers, now it is no longer possible. You cannot use any remote services, however, everything else works if done correctly, ie. traffic info, internet search, apps, etc. you do need a BMW connected subscription though
Depends of the bumper, in msport; you have marks (looks like a cross, same as in the front) in the normal bumper there are no marks, and you kind of have to make your own using the bumper bracket.
@JPDenali on mine they were there, very faint though, also pre-lci. Also if you have the bumper brackets and the sensor holders, you can place install them temporarily and transfer the location on the bumper. Also another thing that I did just to make sure the marks were right; I scouted a 4 series to measure the distance from all 4 corners. Yes, you will look like a maniac measuring a bumper in the middle of the road.
@@DorksandBolts Sounds good. I just did Surround View and saw the crosshairs for the front parking assist sensors as well as the camera crosshairs. If they're there, that should be good enough
I found your channel today and let me tell you i love the retrofit videos on your f32 i also have one bmw f32 and also did a few retrofits in my car, i would love to share with you my mods that you might take some inspiration.
I haven't clicked on a video so fast lol. I just completed the same retrofit and got everything working successfully. I'll also be making a DIY video. Just out of curiosity, do you happen to know what the resolution of the cameras are?
I did this on my 2016 435i and i had to change the abs sensors to, so heads up on that if you don't get it to work after retrofiting and coding everything
At 9:05, is the harness you are showing in the video the same one that is in the door jamb? Is this removed by removing the rubber boot with all of the door wires that is in the door jamb?
I just did the wiring yesterday and getting the wires through the large black grommets behind the brake booster and fuse box on the driver and passenger side was bad 😂. Admittedly, the first wire I ran on the driver's side I was figuring out how to do it, but I had a very long (15 inch flathead screwdriver) that I used to push the cable through the hole in the grommet and then fish it from inside. On the passenger side, the job took 5 mins since I learned from the drivers side
hi there, i have a question about I want to add the vibration motor into my F30 steering wheel. Can you make a tutorial about how to retrofit it into the steering wheel please? Not too sure how to connect the motor with the wiring harness
Basically you need to buy a new steering wheel harness and two wires from the FEM to the steering wheel. Making a whole video about that is a good idea, I will try to make one soon, since I am addressing some loose ends with all the retrofits is have so far. Thank you for the suggestion!
@@DorksandBolts I checked RealOEM and the module in my car appears to be from 03/2014 until varying end dates. When I scanned my car with BimmerCode, I saw that changing the setting for display color change was an option even though my climate control panel is pre-LCI
@@DorksandBolts I can confirm that a car that is 03/14 or later build date and the interior lighting package has the IHKA3 module and it's just a simple swap + coding
Congrats great video! My problem the factory installed charger in my F31 makes my iphone overheated in the armrest, and hardly charges rather maintaining the battery on same level while carplay is on. Is it something can be fixed?
AFAIK, there are 2 versions of the wireless chargers, the earlier versions would cause overheating, the ones made after 2017 do not, they take a long time to charge. Also make sure your screen is off while on the charger. These are my personal experiences and what I have read online. I don’t think there is an official fix.
Great series on how to completely retrofit the NBT EVO with the ATM. One question though, why did you need to add a second microphone on the passenger side? Is this something that LCI cars/cars with NBT EVO have that pre-LCI cars do not have?
Thank you! And yes I added the second microphone because it is needed for the nbtevo, otherwise you’ll get an error. But you can also add it on the nbt. Just better audio call quality.
Regarding the brown plastic part at 2:03 and the rubber grommet, are those necessary for this retrofit? If so, what mirror did you get it from? Did it also contain surround view?
Yeah they are pretty necessary, for one, the brown plug will house the cable for the camera, and the rubber grommet will keep water out. You can reuse the one on your current mirror. I did get those parts from a broken mirror that had no base from a junkyard; well… they did had a base, it was just broken off from the mirror, but yes they did have surround view
@@DorksandBolts I have been doing some research on this retrofit and I see that some people get a FAKRA cable for each mirror. Is the brown plug the OEM solution for this retrofit while the FAKRA cable is an alternative approach?
@JPDenali I am not familiar with that solution, but I doubt that it is OEM, I only do my retrofits using the official BMW parts with a few exceptions when I have to temporarily improvise. (video coming to show that)
@@DorksandBolts Got it. Do you know if it is possible to get that brown part somewhere or do I need to look for mirrors that already have surround view?
@JPDenali I don’t know if you can get it separately, but if I remember correctly and if you are able to use a dremel tool, you can reuse the casing on your original mirror.
And how is the leather today? One year later. Is it like the original, there it looks after 2000km, like as after 200000km? Or is it better? Hope you know what I mean.
I have to say that it still looks good and feels great too, it will never look like the original, but it looks very close to it. I will admit that I could have given it a few more coats of color and clear coat, but I am happy with it. I am trying to make a video soon. You’ll see it there.
We don’t have the car anymore, but for the year we had it, everything stuck without problems; or at least we didn’t notice the surround audio changing.
hey man, i'm trying to retrofit IHKA3 on a pre-lci f30, did all the wiring as you did, plugged in the new IHKA3 module, but the windshield demister button is constantly blinking... so i checked with esys, and when i press read VCM it says IHKA but when i press read ECU, ihka disappears. when i read vcm and left click IHKA and do anything with it, it says timed out... (cant connect to ECU basically). any solution for that? also the 6:13 part is VERY unclear :( i have no idea where to find these infos or how to look through pszd files...
Hi. Hope someone can help. Just installed the LCI panel. My car is 03.2024 bmw F80 m3. Everything works plug and play, all controls buttons and etc. But the colour does not change from white to amber, even after coding. Bimmercode shows IHCA (2) something like this not IHKA3. I am a bit stuck. How to make colour change to work?
Hello brother, thank you so much for your effort for doing these amazing videos for us. I have a 2015 BMW F33 428i XDRIVE , i bought the car accidented , i bought aftermarket parking sensors and i plugged them but it is still showing on my car screen that parking unaided and parking assistance unavailable , after watching your videos i concluded that the siren that comes on the rear right back side is missing and its connector is hanging on the rear right side under the black bracket, do you think it is the problem that is causing the sensors malfunction, knowing that also the front sensors are not working too. Another question ,may the new aftermarket parking sensors require coding to work? please help me! thank you in advance and sorry for taking your time and bothering you!
I'm hoping to achieve what you tried first. I can't find a replacement SZL with the right combination of stalks (need the high beam assist AND rear wiper on opposite stalk).
I have the same problem on my 88 325ic as well, but only the driverside window clips the rear window trim. Would following the same adjustment levels you have on the 89 work for my vert?
Your videos are so compreensive that one can find only few like this. THanks for the share. I've also found one from ebay but I'll probably swap the whole SZL itself. So strange that I found it for 110$. Man, but just a cable for a top view camera, or a side view camera can cost 200+. I don't understand what's behind that pricing policy.
Hey, that's great. Just what I was looking for. You're making the wires on your own. I'm thinking of retrofitting full surround view to my F10 but the cost of all the wiring harness stops me. I've thought maybe I could make them on my own but I don't know anything about the type of the wires and the connectors. Maybe you could help me build the harness? If you know, just share the wire types and the connector types and where I can get those connectors if they're sold separately.
Yeah, indeed a great job. This is the best and the only video that describes the installation of the top view camera and the blind spot feature in detail. I've been trying to retrofit surround view to my F10. But the parts needed are so expensive. I've been trying to collect different parts from different sellers on ebay. I've found the module for 45$, the a pair of mirror lower hosing for camera for 16$, the operation unit with the camera button for 40$(not exactly for the 5 series though, it's for 7 series and the outer frame is gloss in contrary to the f10 one which is matte), top view cameras each for around 70$. But the side view cameras are more expensive the the top ones, around 110$ each. What frustrates me is the price for the wiring. Man, they are expensive. Like aroud 300$. So this all makes me think twice before I procceed. Btw, the lower mirror housing I found is not the shadow line glossy version, it's matte, which is different from what I have.
