i think there’s a case to be made with sound tension. because the piano left hand starts doing contrary motion against the cello halfway through this phrase, we can reflect that tension with the sound quality and a tiny bit of timing, two lines pulling further apart from each other, while keeping the beautiful diminuendo idiomatic to a sul D rising scale. this would add a couple of layers to this beautiful phrase.
