as someone who played violin, when my music teacher said "The logo should be on top." I ignored it and focused on how the clips looked instead cuz thats how my violin case was, but good video, I have clarinet in my school band so this was very useful
Make sure the whole of the head joint isn't completely in line with the keys but moved a bit to the left and here's why: The weight of the flute is where all the rods are. If I were to play a C# (aka no keys pressed) the flute completely rolls out of my hand.
Uhhh, bossa nova isn't jazz, even tho it's a genre that grew at the same time as jazz and both jazz and bossa kinda copied some things on each other, Bossa does not come from Jazz, it actually comes from another Brazilian genre called choro wich means "crying" in english. than samba does not come from jazz either.
Amazing video. I learned a lot. Just one more point to add: you mentioned complex harmony but did not mention complicated rhythms (polymeter and rhythms are so much more common in jazz than other genres, perhaps)
Thank you, Dean, you’ve just explained why jazz fries my brain and makes me run away screaming. It is just too complex for my dyslexic and autistic brain to process!
I'm autistic and fascinated by jazz. Have you tried focusing on one aspect of jazz? I LOVE the sound of major 7 chords so I started with those, then learned extensions, etc. Once the brain has an solid understanding of a basic concept it becomes less anxious and learning is easier. I wish you the best!
This is very helpful.. I've always felt I never understood how to casually listen to jazz. I'm a guitar player and would love to dive in and learn some things
Hey, some nice clear explanations here. However, intentionally or not, there’s no mention of singing or jazz vocals which are such a rich part of jazz and a unique way of interpreting tunes. Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday and others are all worth mentioning in the same breath as Miles, Coltrane and Brubeck.
2:58 - That sounds like the S neck. I listened to this horn on another video with their R neck and the S neck. The S neck to me seems to have a brighter and fatter sound, while the R neck has more of a richer sound. For me, both necks are great and you are getting great value for your horn. That key work is BOSS. Great video. Thanks!
Sooo many people say they hate jazz without understanding this beautiful complexity. I took a 101 music theory class in college and the prof was a jazz player so a great deal of our class was devoted to understanding what you just described. He always asked us to describe what improv each player was doing, using only adjectives 😂 It was so difficult but I learned to love it and was hooked. Recently discovered Too Many Zooz “Havana Banana” at a speakeasy in Raleigh, NC. Combo of house music and jazz (mostly brass instruments). It is 🔥
Justin -- Will the contour case accommodate a Conn 6M alto with the bell keys on the left side? I know that Protec's Pro Pac PB304CT will, but not certain about this one. Thanks for the review!
Po krótko Jazz to muzyka "Bitch" kojarzy mi się z prohibicjã. Nuta nieco subtelniejsza. Nieco później Akuratnie , że do mnie Jazz dociera to inna sprawa. Nuta Jazz "
As someone who has played sax for several years and had no idea how to assemble this, the video was a huge help. I’m still having trouble with making a nice sound and I do not know fingerings yet, either.
"one note samba" or "samba de uma nota só" is actually a bossa nova tune despite it's name It's written by tom jobim himself the guy who made the genre
Hi. I was wondering why the 222 does not have split E mechanism and 212 has it. 221 does not have split E and even 262 intermediate flute does not have split E. 3rd year students usually start playing high E. Please explain. Thank you
Thanks! The models you mentioned are not American models available in the USA. A split-E mechanism adds complexity and durability issues to the flute. Yamaha doesn't make a split-E until you get to the Yamaha Allegro 372H or 472H. The 222, 362, and 382 are all without a split-E. In short, most educators in the USA find the split-E to be more trouble than it's worth at the student level. Good luck!
