Thank you 👍🏼. Constructive criticism is always appreciated. My sound is just whatever comes out of the amp...I don't do any post production and I don't have any fancy gear.
@@JohnBoy-Ramone oh, I see. Thanks for posting, it was awesome. My son showed me his audio-interface. It sends the signal to the computer, then there’s these softwares that can have unlimited types of pedals/amps. It doesn’t cuts too much. And there’s a public library of presets you can copy for practically any song. Good job!
I'm not so sure that the word "tribute" means what you think it means, but trust me dude, I chose this word carefully...Very carefully. Having said that, the pickups that came with the kit were total shite and I wouldn't have wasted my time even bothering to wire them up. I thought about replacing them with an FS-1 AND SD Mini HB, but to be honest, I never personally liked that setup and I didn't think that it would be particularly representative of what I would consider to be the 'classic' Ramones period/sound...plus, for some strange reason, the slot for the bridge pickup was slanted the wrong way round, which would have required a complete new pickguard to be manufactured. I, therefore decided to go with the Mosrite branded single coils as shown in the video and I am very happy with them , in both looks and sound, however , I have since discovered a source for clones of the non-pole piece Mosrite pickups as used by J R , but alas, at present, they are out of my price range...but maybe someday. So, in conclusion, please feel free to take your pick from the above reasons (and a few other personal reasons besides). Gabba Gabba Hey!
I been thinking about checking out some of the Hallmark guitars models, I don't know if they make an exact Johnny guitar clone but they have some cool ones in that shape in other colors.
Hallmark definitely did make a JR clone and they seem to have got good reviews. I had originally only wanted this as a wallhanger, but it turned out a lot better than I could ever have expected. The kit cost less than £100.
Johnboy, How and what did you use to extended crossbeam offset? Hope ya don't mind me asking? Really like how yours turned out. Picked up putty and magnets today...
I didn't really measure anything too precisely (or plan things out in advance) and at 2:19 you can see that I removed more from one end than the other, but in hindsight it would have been much easier to wait until the uprights and platform had been assembled before committing to any serious hacking up of the one part that gives it its structural integrity. The crossbeam was altered before I decided to document the build, but as far as I can remember, I first cut the very end off the assembled crossbeam and then inserted an extension piece, which was cannibalized from the unused foot stand. I was originally just going to relocate the pulley to above the crossbeam, similar to the later model guillotines.
Thank you for reply. I used what I could make out what you did and added to it. I also used foot stand, before I read your response. I primed my pieces today. Waiting on some paint colors to finish. A lot of extra work, but turning out nice. Will send pic when complete. Thanks again for the inspiration.
I just checked and it seems to be a rebranded version of the same kit with the addition of a pretty cool cardboard display/photographic backdrop, so good luck. BTW I didn't put much planning into this conversion, but in hindsight, it would have been more historically accurate if I had relocated the angled bottom braces to further down the uprights.
The Dolls and Hobby kit is more like the original Aurora kit in that a rectangular peg (the original had a round peg) holds the head on, not magnets. Of course, if you already got your kit you'll see that for yourself.😁
@@JohnBoy-Ramone I bought the Aurora guillotine back in 1964. I used to have all the Universal monsters, King Kong, and Godzilla models. I eventually got rid of them. I was terrible at making models when I was a kid. So it's nothing to lament ha ha. By the way, I had all the medieval knights models Aurora made. I did my usual crappy job making them. I got rid of them eventually. In the late 1990s a local hobby store had all of them, in perfect condition, in the boxes and unopened. I don't collect to sell. So I made them all. I still have them. Over the years I've acquired various manufacturer's figures (not models)of the Universal monsters, King Kong and Godzilla. They are all superior to the Aurora sculpts. However, in the last few years, I wanted to replace the Aurora Guillotine model. I saw the Polar LIghts kit but at $100.00 I couldn't justify getting it. I mean, it was only a few dollars when I was a kid. It's just a model! Anyway, I saw that Dolls and Hobby had a kit for $45.00 and bought it. I intend to modify it to make it more authentic as you did. So I'll be doing some research for the next few days. Thanks for the video. It encouraged me to get the model since I could see it was nearly identical to the original.I hadn't thought about modifying the guillotine until I saw your work. Fortunately, my skill at making things is a hell of a lot better nowadays.
What a disturbing choice for a “model,” some might say. Others, a coffee table “conversation piece.” It would make a good demonstration model for a guillotine salesman to, at the right moment, bring out of his bag with a flourish to close the deal!
awesome, dude! cool playing! that's my dream guitar you have there! really liked the drawnings too. pretty authentic and creative way to teach the song. kinda like this old zines. keep on rockin!
