man, they are cool looking rovers, for someone who said they've only ever built 1 rover at the start of the series that's a pretty good design, but something tells me you have experience outside of SE that inspires/influences these builds.
One of the few complaints that I have about this movie is that they did not dwell nearly long enough on the Enterprise and Reliant trading phaser shots.
Enterprise was filled with trainees. Of course they panicked. In undiscovered country the enterprise was maned by fully trained crew, fit ready for duty. While the ship was getting torpedoed. Her crew did their job.
I love this scene. One problem I’ve always had with the scene, and another I just noticed; Spock tells Kirk the Reliant is locking phasers, he can see this from scans taken on the bridge of Enterprise. Yet while stalling for time, Sulu locks phasers on Reliant and they don’t notice. Something I just now noticed, Kahn is quoting old Klingon proverbs. Kahn lived in a time before interstellar travel, long before humans knew anything about any other humanoid species. He was awoken from hibernation briefly, then banished to Ceti Alpha 5. A short time later, the planets orbit was disturbed and they were left without communications for 20+ years. I doubt Kahn had time to study old Klingon proverbs during his brief time on Enterprise. He’d be far more likely to quote proverbs from human history. Still a great scene and great movie. I guess you just notice things if watch them often enough.
There is a novel out there about Khan's time on Ceti Alpha IV called "To Reign in Hell: The Exile of Khan Nonnien Signh" that explains how he came to learn those Klingon proverbs. Damn good book.
Crew man: "Our shields are dropping!" Khan: "Raise them!" Crew man: "I can't!" Khan: "The override, where's the override?!" Piece of advice. Read THE WHOLE instructions manual.
In the intermitance when Kahn first speaks to Kirk again. Kahn: "Ah, Kirk, my old friend..." Kirk: "Kahn..." Kahn frowns when seeing his old nemesis again. Kahn: "My god you've gotten fat..."
Yes, very good. I have to say, I am always going to prefer the beautiful craft of the original models in this case. But for 2010? This is excellent work.
After Khan says; "Let them eat static." the shot of the topside of the Enterprise saucer section does not look right. The angle in the original model slopes up to the bridge dome. This one looks like it is leveled off with the bridge sitting on a flat shelf. Sorry, just my take.
As a CGI artist myself I am sick and tired of CGI models. if they redo it, it should be done with real practical models. That being said, I can only praise and congratulate you as crazy for all the work you did on this. I think it goes as close as it can be!!! and 2010 omg!!!!
So star trek 2 twok Exploded out of nowhere. Top 3 greatest Sci fi movies ever made An absolute masterpiece. If a fan saw star trek tmp, which I love but Said, if you as a fan had the power to make the ultimate star trek movie and story, what would it be? Well, they made exactly that movie. It's that special. Yes sir.
One small over sight. The Reliant's warp stabilizer (blue dome) is intact in the very last shot. It was destroyed with a direct hit on second salvo from enterprise.
Sarek called it at 0:53, Kirk should have said "No she's right Spock, raise shields". Why wasn't Kirk downgraded to toilet-plunger 3rd class after this is beyond me !! What is "Yellow Alert - Energize Defense Fields" if they're not raising shields ? And why does Scotty ALWAYS need to be told to try Auxilliary Power ?? Oh, and Spock is smirkingly referring to Khan as "intelligent, but displays two-dimensional thinking", when EVERY SINGLE STAR TREK BATTLE ( save for this one ) LOOKS LIKE IT'S HAPPENING ON A GYM FLOOR ??!
You know, I only just realized that 1:35 sort of mirrors Undiscovered Country, Kahn makes reference to a Klingon proverb, when in Undiscovered Country Chang references a human (Shakespeare) poet. Kind of ironic in a way :D
