I have the "SIMPSON Universal 20 in. Surface Cleaner for Hot/Cold Water Pressure Washers Rated Up To 4500 PSI" with the "SIMPSON 4000 PSI 3.5 GPM Cold Water Gas Pressure Washer with HONDA GX270 Engine". I've had them less than a month, and today was its second use and it stopped spinning. Should I try bending it, or should I just return it? I assume that the 'bending' is trial and error with you having to reassemble the whole thing, restart the pressure washer and test it?
Like many comments, I tried everything and nothing worked. Tried your idea and it worked! One tip. The surface washer has a brass fitting that has two distinct manufacturing lines/marks where the water lines connect into. I put a piece of black gorilla tape on both of the silver metal water lines exactly adjacent to both of the brass marks. Now you will knew exactly how much you are turning those water lines. And if they’re even - could lead to a balance problem when the jets are spinning. My first try the washing jets were spinning too fast. Back to the vice. I backed both water lines off and made sure both were turned exactly the same distance. Works great. Thank you for your advice.

Would this work on a Simpson 15" surface cleaner? I have lubricated it with Marine grease and used a bread twist tie metal wire to backflush the nozzles with water. I email Simpson, but no reply yet. I wish they would sell replacement parts. I will never buy a Simpson again if I can not make it work.

For larger areas like the decks and patios, I think I will be looking into a surface cleaner attachment to speed up the job, or at least make it a little easier. Hose and sprayer connections are tool-less, tight, and quick. I used the yellow nozzle on the concrete/brick surfaces, and the pressure was adequate for cleaning those surfaces.I am disappointed that these units are still being shipped with a nozzle storage holder that allows them to vibrate out of the holder way too easily and become lost, but I don't want to knock off a star for that reason. The functional part of the washer works very well, so I would recommend this product.
I was thinking the same thing. Every now and then I hear a rock dancing under neath the cover. I think that was what changed the pitch of the rotating arms.
Worked like a charm however I found that grease for transmissions works best and you need to do it everytime you power wash but hey I think they should've forced to fix this regardless there are millions of folks that got screwed on this POS, they should make it right the bastards!
I found that the Tubes on my Simpson Model 80165 where not that hard to turn at all. I am getting a new Unit as I said below. I will measure the Angle from the Horizontal Plain when I get the new unit and let everyone know. I tried 60 degrees from the Horizontal Plain of the Jets and it work for me today and it worked ok at 3400 PSI. I did Find that one of the Tubes moved to 55 degrees after I was exhausted and done. What I am going to do is Measure the Replacements Angle from the Horizontal Plain of the Jets and Loctite them in with Blue Loctite #242 on that first unit and also the New Replacement one. I also did notice on a regrease that the upper plastic Bearing had worn thinner, the Bearing is not ast wide as it's Gap anymore it is going to blow out. I would not Recommend the Simpson Model 80165, it is only good for one time around the house then the Bearing are gone even with a lot of re-greasing and the work to Loctite the Tubes in place. I may bay one of the ones with a metal Bearing and have a few extra Bearings around. Also, maybe after you are out of Warranty the Simpson Service number 877-362-4271 may sell the new plastic Bearings but that is still going to be a lot of work each time you do all your Driveways and Walkways, plus the time to stop and regrease and check your bearings.
Agreeed. Simpson sent my 3 surface cleaner replacements. It was nice they at least sent 3 but 1st worked for maybe 2 jobs. The 2nd stuck right out of the box and noticed the water coming out of one nozzle was normal and the other was much weaker and no matter how much I tried cleaning that little hole nothing made a difference. 3rd worked great for about 30mins. WD-40 got 1st and 3rd to work somewhat. This is my last option. Trying to turn this fucker today.
@@ALGH2101 Ya the only way I got it to run was using this Food Grade Grease that take about six time of washing your hands with Dawn dish soap to get off. They did send me a replacement, but I was able to get the Driveway and Sidewalk done after I found the right angle for the Nozzles. not worth the trouble, Spend the big money on a real one.
I have a Simpson 80165 Surface Cleaner. THe One you have looks very similar in design. Did you find a screen in the upper area in the swivel that lets you change the angle of the Wand up and down? One Manufacture may be making these Surface Cleaners with slight Cosmetic differences and different Name Brands on them, but have the same basic parts in them. Please let me know. I called Simpson Support and they guy said all he is, is a Parts Supplier and they are sending me a whole new unit. That's great but it does not help me get done today. Please let me know ASAP. FYI guys, the briggs and straton 15 in 3000 psi surface cleaner has an open recall. They'll email you a prepayed ups return slip and replace free of charge.
After trying everthing, lightly polishing the female side of the bearing fitting w/ very fine steelwool, and adding some light lubricant, did the trick for me. Thanks for taking the time to share!
Just really wanted to thank you for the video. My Simpson surface cleaner stopped spinning after just 2 hours of usage straight out the box. Tried lubing it not much of a difference. Put the spin piece on a clamp took a fine point sharpie and marked two lines as you would do on timing work turn the spin pieces about an eighth of an inch. No joke my surface cleaner is spinning and working better than when I pulled it out the box. Again thank you!

If you want reliability and quality,don’t settle for one of these consumer grade pieces of ----! I’ve been doing this as a business for decades and a commercial grade is the way to go especially for the home owner.it will last you forever.one bit of advice.I learned this after a few failures.after you finish your work and are putting the unit away,chances are you won’t be using it again for a while .in that case pour a little vegetable oil down the inlet of the cleaner.don’t use petroleum products like WD 40 or even motor oil.the rubber seals and O rings will disintegrate from the harsh chemicals if left too long in storage.that’s why I use veg.oil.olive oil is awesome because it solidifies inside the cartridge and acts as a sealing protectant.next time you fire it up .......good to go.
That will probably work for some but I have had 3 of these there is definitely a design flaw in these. I think as it spins the brass heats up from friction and expands making it bind up.
