I come back to watch this cinematic every so often. I am not emotionally ready for this to come up in the animated series… God Liam and the whole cast killed in this scene.
I watched the entirety of campaign one in between episodes of campaign three, now I'm rewatching episodes of campaign two while waiting on new episodes, two of the saddest moments for me in both of the previous campaigns were Vax departing for good, and The Mighty Nein Burying Molly
And now Vax is stuck in perpetual pain in an orb that’s helping to hold ruidus in place & we just found out that the Raven Queen is more worried about herself than her champion that she just forsake to save herself🙃🙃🙃 ALL THIS PAIN FOR NOTHING🙃🙃🙃
Okay I want an explanation for what has just happened here and it's better be good. Also lovely animation. Is Vax dead? Elena is the mother of the twins? What happened?
This was definitely the most emotionally charged scene in the entire history of Critical Role. Liam is hands down one of the best actors I've ever seen, and deserves industry recognition. I expect to see him with every award out there someday. The rest of the gang aren't exactly slouches either, but Liam totally ripped my heart out. And, dang it, I'm getting all weepy - AGAIN! . . . Your animation was pretty amazing, too. Glad you took your time: well worth it!
So many of them saying they don't accept it and that they'll find him.... But there never was a return for the Champion of Ravens... Not until after Percy had already passed of old age... But maybe he visits each of them at the end of their days.

For me, Vax's farewell harkens back to B5's final episode: Sleeping in Light. It's somber. It's quiet. And it's damn near perfect. As much as I wish Scanlan had succeeded in saving Vax, I'm glad he didn't, because otherwise we'd have been robbed of possibly the most powerful moment in the entire campaign. It couldn't have been more perfect if it were planned from the beginning.
For those who aren't aware, when I say B5, I'm referring to Babylon 5: a sci-fi show from the 90s. The CGI is dated, the first season was a seriously slow burn, and you could tell the production budget was next to nonexistent, but the show boasts some of the best writing TV has ever seen. Can't recommend enough that you at least give it a chance.
I am waiting for this moment. I'm going to have to hold my GF while she cries, she absolutely LOVES Vax. I don't have the heart to tell her what's coming so I'll just be there for her when it does.
I only discovered Vox Machina for myself finally this week. And i have been slowly falling for Vax character. He looks and sounds ellegant yet he is just so ordinary. So he feels very much alive. Like a common friend you met along the way in your life at some point. First thing was me reading a spoiler about his end in one of yt clips, even before i started watching the series. Then i noticed i kinda begin to actually fully love him. And i didnt wanna admit first. I am glad i read the spoiler because being ready for character's death is so much better than to be broken by it. With Vax, i like how his demise was something that was determined far before the actual death. So every Vox Machina fan, no matter of when they joined on series, could not be broken by it but be ready to let him go. I wanted to avoid your animation like hell but i couldnt resist at the end. The way you drawn character's emotions here is very bittersweet. But if fan animation hits so hard i am actually afraid how much tragic it would be when this scene would be officially animated. We are gonna be nucleary destroyed.
I 100% agree with you. But you’re misunderstanding something about the context. Would you like to be spoiled? I haven’t seen Critical Role either, but I know what happens. Btw, your Amphibia profile pic hits hard 😢
@@ddisaster626 read my post again. I never state this will be next season. I do say season 3 will be sad (Cloak and Dagger, Bard’s Lement etc). My comment for this was that the series finale will rend me. Now I understand in some country season and series are used interchangeably or mean the opposite. In the U.K. season is the batches and series is the whole show.
I know the romantic relationships and friendships are important, but what Laura and Liam brought to table as twin brother and sister is absolutely amazing.
I was always a bit surprised that Percy's reply to Vax's request wasn't, "I accept your charge," rather than "Of course." I know it's character and relationship growth, but accepting it more formally would have just been so Percy.
I’m not crying! You’re crying! F***! I am not looking forward to the end of the animated series cause of this scene alone! I’m gonna ugly cry even worse!!
Sorry I just now saw this! It was more of a thing that came up in the moment, and a way of making clear how much they HATE that Vax is being taken from them. In Percy's case, it does fit a promise he made earlier in the campaign that his final words with Vax would be "indignant and irritated."
Why does this wreck me so much?! Your art is beautiful. This was incredibly well done. I'm crying in my coffee now, and will continue to hide in my cube until I stop sniffling... What a Friday morning.
I work overnights and have been piledriving Vox, audio only, for the past month or two. I just finished today. This was amazing! *wiping the tears from my face* Thank you.
