I was looking at having a hydraulic cylinder barrel I.D. laser cladded with 420 stainless as part of a rebuild.

How does the grain structure look like on the cladding? Does every pass make a seperate grain? If so can that be heat treated to make uniform grains?

Great video, you did a good job explaining everything. I liked it, but there's a little mistake on the video chapter of the first car part. It is a cylinder head and not a cylinder hat ;)

You folks should be cladding the combustion chambers of engines not to mention clutch plates which could save consumer costs in the millions.

Is it possible to use laser cladding for big parts ? Like big shells, tubes , dish heads and … Normally companies use electro-slag strip cladding for such applications, but I dont know if laser cladding can do such a job or not …

Both are common standard materials for hardening with diode lasers. The process usually works without gas or any other medium. If you want to suppress oxidation, Argon cover is a possibility.
