My boy and I are heading out there at the end of June. We will be in our 12' tin boat. Good to see other folk enjoying that water without the need for a huge boat.
Absolutely, just have to make sure you use common sense and stay close to shore and never go out in bad conditions, highly recommend you go see rennell sound
We will use caution for sure. Rennell sound is where we will be fishing and hunting. This is our 4th year seeing HG during the summer school break. Every year we attempt something different.
@@NorthPineOutdoors Yes, I realize that. Our family is on our way to Haida Gwaii north island in late June this year. Just wasn't sure if the name of the actual beach as there are several called that. Thanks anyways
Don't be bashing the folks that live and work in the Cariboo. The only reason that road is there is because of the loggers. There are many miners that log and ranch and vice versa. We all try to be respectful of all the users on the land 👍
Oh trust me I have no issues with loggers /ranchers or miners, what I do have a problem with is the ministry of mines and the government holding every person and businesses up to different standards , if archeologist sites are so important than hold everyone to the same standard, I’m required to pay 15,000$ dollars to study arch assessments but everyone else can wreck the same piece of land without paying a dime? Seems a little one sided
I sure did check there and still no gold, wrong type of rock, more of a shale. Be worth another day to pan that claim to see if there’s anything, unfortunately it’s staked by someone else now so it’s their problem
Since theyre made to be stacked and carry load on the corners, i wonder if it makes sense to put a steal plate on top and weld square feet on the plate at each corner to keep the majority of the weight on the corners. Or run steal c channel around the top perimiter supported by feet or spacers at each corner, then cover that with sheets of steel. Then build a similar structure inside with more focus on supporting the walls for backfill pressure.. idk just thinking out loud i know the roof caving in is a big problem and if you wanted more than 18 inches of dirt on top you may need more than a wood skeleton? Any thoughts?
Yeah the more bracing the better, don’t think a person can put to much precaution into it, but definitely using some common sense on how much dirt to put on the roof will help, 4” of foam panels probably has the same R valve as a foot of dirt so don’t think there’s much need for more than 8 - 10 inches of dirt
I here you about the double a triple standard the B.C. government has. Farmers can put roads were ever they want, even on their crown leased grazing land, no archaeological study required. Loggers wreck roads, scar up the forest, are not required to do any archaeological assessments, because West Fraser has their backs, and the right politicians in their pockets. But placer miners like us, ha, we have our butt cracks flossed regularly. Some of the rules placed on placer mining is based on illogical junk science. Take the Barkerville area for example, it's already well known that the natives did not frequent, hunt, fish, or live in that area, but yet every time some one wants to placer mine ground there, they have to do another native study. Even if that ground had a study done to it before by a prior placer operation. I was told by an elder decades ago that natives never lived in the Barkerville area because it's covered in deep snow for seven to eight months of the year. Or as he called it, Barkerville is crazy white man's country. One group of people that also grinds the gears, are the outdoor adventurers, a good percentage of them are pigs. I have a small lake that my claims encompass, and in the summer I can pull a bag of garbage out every week. Love the shower set up. Cheers.
I sure am but took a year off for building projects and fishing trips, we got a new claim over the fall so will be putting out some new videos come spring time
You should have turned the container UPSIDE DOWN and then weld on the top (which is originally the floor) quarter inch plates. EVERY container's bearing capacity is on the FLOOR, not the ceiling. But you must reinforce first from inside with beams, then turn it upside down and weld plates to the roof from OUTSIDE to make it water proof. Plus, additional things. That ceiling will COLLAPSE with 1 foot dirt too. It is a casket basically because the weight bearing capacity is on the floor, not the roof. Anyways....
Sorry been in the ground for 3 1/2 years and the roof hasn’t settled any , braced it up really well on the inside plus laid a layer of logs across the top to distribute weight, only used about 8 inches of dirt on top, just have to use some common sense
I have a pipe at the end of my driveway. been there 35 years. If the container collapses then he did not bury it deep enough. I have buried a lot of gas tanks in my time too. This is all a lie cause they don't want a million people burring a container in there back yard cause it is so easy to do.
Maybe, didn’t really think to hard about it, air flow seems fine, air intake is 3” off the floor inside and the outlet is right at the roof but the pipes out side are the same height , maybe I’ll cut the inlet 6” lower
Welcome to the NDP run country,, it was much different in the 60s when we had the conservative running B.C. Glad to see somebody out enjoying and respecting the outdoors I was raised in the Caribou trapping and mining for almost 70 years Keep up the good work
@@NorthPineOutdoors Thank for the reply Maybe some day we can meet and have coffee and chat about the hobby of mining And the old days I like your sluce box build
If they try to make you pay for their excevation then just tell them: either you work it and they pay for it or! You dont work it, move on and they can still payvfor their excavation but with less drama
@@NorthPineOutdoors it's so stupid. I understand trying to preserve history but that should be up to the people that are interested in it. Not the individual. I'm sure the big companies are doing far more damage with little to no consequences
You want the float gold (flour)on sand bars. Prospecting them to find the streaks of pay . Shovel wide trenches 2-3inches deep perpendicular to the flow of the river . . If you find a bit of a streak go up or down stream for a few yards do the same thing to pin point the streak . do not move your gear till you pin point a streak to dig. Flour gold does not like fast deep water in your sluice box . On the NSR you don't set up unless you have a 150 colors or more to the pan . My sluice has a wool blanket in it to catch the flour gold 95% efficient ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mcl49rxf2qY.html
yea that always sucks when people leave things like that .. my claim in the caribou was jumped a few years back and im still trying to get the old equipment and garbage out of there. glad to see you out there enjoying yourself though
This is super rad. Ty so much for making the videos. I want to build a wine cellar using this idea and I’m in northern Oregon. Not worrying about freezing much, more so the amount of rain we get but looks like you have been dry? My only question is what would you say the average temperature is during the warmer months? Hoping to be around 58-60 degrees F for the wine. Many thanks and again just awesome. If you don’t mind can I also ask what the total ballpark cost was? 🙏🙏
Yes we have had no water issues , during the summer when it peaks to 86F out side we maintain around 50F in the cellar, if your able to lower it in to the ground another foot you will have much more stable temperatures in the winter and summer
Hi how did your rootceller hold up, we are in Ireland and we are building a concrete block celler, I was wondering about the air vents what did you use how many did you think was necessary, I would really appreciate some advice as nobody in Ireland has really advertised they build one.
Root cellar is holding up great, only advice is to put some drainage system in with some 1.5” crushed wash rock for the floor , I used 3” abs sewer pipe for the air vents, two is more than enough for the size of cellar I have, just make sure one is off the floor 3” and the other is right at the top of the cellar, good luck
Good, I want to see Part 2…!! My best friend just drew out his pole shed plans for me. Now he is planning on putting (glued & nailed together) laminated beams “directly on top of” the poles (with metal brackets) that are already augured in. I am looking for new ideas? Thank you.
It’s kinda new to me to, I’m gonna try and mill all the siding in board and batten , you can learn from all my mistakes then ! Part 2 should be out in the next 2 - 3 days
My 23 started making terrible squeak/squeal coming from the pogos. Pulled off covers, and they were never greased. Greased solved it. Like the crush ring you mentioned, it’s a little disturbing these things come out of the factory like this. QA needs improvement.
Nice video! Just a side note, I noticed that your wife was not wearing a belt on her waders. I live in Kitimat, and know of someone killed by not wearing one. You have a beautiful family! Think about your family without mom 😢
Your absolutely right, we knew that we bought a cheap set of waders without a belt so we played it safe in the shallow water. Try to exercise common sense, you should have seen the grief I was given know that I was taking a 14 foot Jon boat to Haida Gwaii, turns out it was totally safe and the best trip we’ve ever had
Besides the oil and gear change is there anything else that needs to be done? I just ordered a Renegade 600 ACE and will get it towards the end of 2023. I know its a trail sled, but do you have any opinions on how it does off trail? Thank you.
There’s always the recommended maintenance intervals in the manual but other than the gearbox and motor oil change there’s not much a guy can do in the first year or two of owning the machine, maybe make sure the belt tension is good. Of course it depends how many miles you put on also. As far as how the machine does off trail it totally depends on the rider’s ability, if you know how to ride a sled through the trees in deep powder then you’ll do just fine. Put a novice on the best mountain sled there is and he’ll have nothing but problems getting stuck , good luck
Thought about it, unfortunately I’m way to busy right now to undertake more side projects. The original highbanker was a greywolf which he’s deceased now, I doubt there’s any proprietary documents or patents on the design. Maybe someday I’ll work from home building those things, haha. Don’t know if I could make a living though
Loggers and farmers are not your enemy they love the land as much as you I assure you . The real problem is the government and the ppl that create these unrealistic standards and regulations that pit us against each other and all we want to do is scratch a living out of our great country and leave it as close to as it was before we should up. Where I live logger, farmers and Miners are nabours and family remember that your trashing your nabour 😉
Oh I totally agree, no issues with farmers at all but loggers around our area typically don’t do to good of job cleaning up after their done, I just don’t like that their are different standards when it comes to logging and mining, both wreck the land but they hold miners up to a way higher standard when it comes to archaeology assessment
It always amazes me about certain engineering. Why not have a proper drilled and tapped chaincase fill plug? How about a remotely mounted oil filter that a fella can easily get at?IAll those little things just to make maint. a whole lot easier. Those 600 aces I here are bulletproof and very efficient.Thx.
