Indeed it is nice my friend. Currently a non-runner but it will get DCC and that is probably the only piece staying with me from the collection I recently purchased. Take care mate, hopefully catch on you Andy's live tomorrow
I've bought two collections. Both worked out well. One was loads of trains, wagons, coaches and Track etc. Great value. The second was a bare bones layout baseboard and frames that has formed the blank base for what is now my Garage Project Layout. This was all dismantled so I could pick it up and transport it on my car roof racks and in the boot. It worked out well, but I didn't get the base shelves that were in the photos for the sale. Once dismantled it's hard to check that you have all the parts to rebuild it. The pick up was too far away to be worth going back. Lesson learned. Still good value though for the money paid.
I think it is important that you clarify evefry single detail about what is on offer before proceeding but, as you say, lesson learned. We all go through it, no shame in that at all my friend
Unless a model collection contains a significant number of items the purchaser needs (or can readily sell on) they are often best avoided. In terms of modelling, sometimes it is better to try and do well on a particular area of modelling rather than spread one's efforts across diververse topics. Notwithstanding, it is always down to the individual modeller to make their own choice as to how they spend their time, effort and money...........
Many thanks for viewing and commenting. As I have said before, this deal was slightly different but you are right. It can be very tempting when you see a whole load of stuff that you can scoop up in one go. Wise words to the buyer are in your comment, thank you !
@@StBlazeyModelWorld I'm facing a similar issue, for whilst all the stock I have is correct for my modelling area and period there is just far to much of it!
@@StBlazeyModelWorld Hah - SABLE - like it! 😆 Much of what I acquired has become surplus though a greater choice of models being released - for example who would ever of believed ex.LSWR Plymouth-area Gate Stock would have been produced let alone the choice of Bulleid or Maunsell coaches. A friend has been expanding his stock whilst selling off older models that now appear outdated. Do like the GWR Railmotor and Toplight stock - fortunately they do come to visit!
I have taken some of your ideas to make my small coach garage I have gone out to buy coaches from the 70s and 60s the last time I had a garage and really took it too far too quick and when I realised I wasn't happy with it I didn't take my time to think I just rushed to do it and now taking my time to do it I'm still looking for ideas on your channel you could say slow is progressing I am more into model buses than trains thank you for giving me the ideas to build my garage my garage is quite small when you look at it I only have 24 coaches I think that's more than enough to run a coach company and have the timetables too not all my coaches are the same colour
It is ok to be into more than one thing or another. Taking time is what matters. Build to the absolute best of your ability. Even bus stations had news agents stands, vending machines, bus stops, people. These are normally in kit form. We can get there, sharing our time and knowledge
Hi. I recently managed to get one of the red efe BEA routemaster’s and luggage trailer for a cheap price and I’m planning on making it into one of the blue early ones as a code 3 project but I’m in need of some advice. Unknown to me when I got it for a really good price the seller had not mentioned it didn’t have a tow hitch. And I was wondering if you knew what would be the best way to make a replacement as I feel it’s a big part of the model. Thanks in advance
Hello and thank you for your question. I am unsure about the RMA range in detail, I do not own one myself. I did just have a quick look at it on the web. It looks like tricky thing to recreate however if the model is going to be in bits I might try using part of a large size paperclip in some way. Regarding your project, did you mean the BEA livery? If so that model is available as 36201, link here from Modelzone: www.modelbuszone. .uk/efe/dd/156/36201.html If I can help further please do not hesitate to get in touch
@@StBlazeyModelWorldthanks for your reply. I didn’t think of a paper clip but that could work really well. The model I have is actually 36202 but I plan on making it the same colours as 36201 as quite frankly I barely see them for sale. This could also give me the chance to make other changes to the model like a more detailed interior as I’d like to add luggage racks like the real things. Thanks
Hello Roger my friend had a look in the link bit only see one lego item, maybe I was a bit late to the party, oh well maybe next time hope you are keeping kind regards Danny 😊 😃 😊
@@StBlazeyModelWorld It can be a tough decision to make but arguably better to excell on one specific area of modelling rather than risk mediocraty across many areas. I'm sure you'll soon feel more focussed....
In North America Fast Tracks makes similar tools for many gauges and radii. The prices are much lower than the tracksettas. Their tools are laser cut wood and pieces can be snapped together. I even use pieces in 3 different radii to make transition curves. Gauges go from Z to O, and I believe they can make other gauges on a custom basis.
That is good to knew and thank you for that helpful advice for my viewers. I do use tracksetta i combinations to make transitional curves as I think I illustrated in the video...I made the video ages ago and I'm too old now to remember :) Many thanks for your viewing time and helpful advice and comments my friend
I tested the link... one item was there! It is hard to part with so much you put the work and effort into, but it is understandable. Much like when I met Horst in Bamberg, Germany, he would rather see it go to someone who would use it than see it sit around and gather dust and rust! I will check in when more is loaded... who knows, I might spot something I really want!
Many thanks my good friend. There will only be one item there right now. I'm creating the first batch of listings over the next few days to go live this Sunday. It is not hard at all....I have too much stuff. I am not religious in anyway but I am blessed but I have become too greedy for items I will never use. Better they go to good homes and those who want or need them. I have still a degree of health, a partner who loves me, she really does and children and grand children. As you know mate, we lost one. So why hold all these trappings? To prove what? Share what we have and I'll probably even just give some stuff away.
Excellent video. I’m actually thinking of getting a 1:24 scale bus for myself. Do you have any recommendations for any other 1:24 buses and what to look out for when buying them.
Firstly, thank you for your viewing time and leaving a comment/question. Sunstar do make great stuff in 1:24. However, it is documented that some of their tampo printing in some of their more ambitious projects (Like the Littlewoods RM) had issues. Buy direct if you can, ie, when you can examine the product. If buying off Ebay examine all pictures of the item in question. Check for the inclusion of indicators, mirrors and in many cases platform pole. These were fitted to models upon dispatch. The certificate is kind of useless but if you want it ensure it is included. Above all, don't be afraid to ask the seller questions and if you have any doubts...walk away. Another will come :) Bus events where stalls are at or even boot fairs etc are the best way to go. Don't get mislead on prices either mate. Often an advert will headline with " Ultra rare"....maybe yes, maybe no, hold the nerve and wait like I did for the item in my video. I hope that helps my friend
Hello from Oxfordshire, That model is really nice and if it what you really wanted then why not. Buses, I’m split between Maidstone & District (double deckers) as my dad was a driver at TW in the early 1950s and mum and I travelled on his bus occasionally. In 1955, I was travelling to school on the route 66 to school and travelled on the first Leyland Atlanteans on M&D. I do have a model of one of those buses. Later after moving to London and the delights of the RTs from ED garage, now alas long gone, on the 194 route, Forest Hill - Croydon Airport, daily to and from school in West Wickham. A friend and I were invited to join the LT families for tea at the Chiswick works, travelling on RT466 (from ED). One of the ED buses from my school days is now in the LTM Covent Garden, it’s the gold painted one on the red carpet. I liked it best in red. I have that model too. In fact I have many models of the M&D and LT buses in various scales, but none of the 66 or 194 routes. Model trains too, from German N 1:160 scale, 00 steam and DMU - including the delightful 142 pacers, they did the job for what they were, a bus on rails (with a toilet). Southport - Manchester Piccadilly on the real thing with my young son, now a fond memory of those times. I’m now involved with real live steam at 7/8” - foot or 1:13.7 on 45mm gauge track representing 2 foot (610mm) track gauge. These are gas fired so very little smoke (from the steam oil to lubricate the pistons, cylinders and valves) and no ash. These models in the 16mm - foot (1:19) etc range in price* from £1800 to £5000 depending on the manufacturer. Note: * just a guide (guess). I have Accucraft 7/8 and a 16mm Roundhouse, all 0-4-0 locos, two are radio controlled. A Beyer-Garratt is about £5000, No I haven’t got one. Wishing you safe journeys and best wishes from Oxfordshire.
Thank you for comment. Chiswick was a great place to visit. I was lucky enough to be there a lot. Large scale models certainly have a place in a collection, providing one has the space for them. Hearing about gas fired locos reminded me of the Mamod steam stuff, powered by a tray of burning meths to boil the water. What could possibly go wrong? :)
That's a fantastic model, what would 1:24 be in model railway terms? Got to be gauge 1 at least, surely. (And no I'm not suggesting that...) I have a model of the bus I passed my test in so maybe I'm heading down the same way myself.
ok so...N gauge= 1.48th...2mm to the foot, 176 ...4 mm to the foot, more commonly known as 00 gauge g=for model makers here in the UK. 0 gauge is 7mm to the foot. I forget now off the top of my head what 1/24 scale is but we are talking g gauge (Garden gauge) if you are into model railways/railroads :)
I could write a book my friend about my life on the buses. Even before I left school I worked at a bus depot....wouldn't happen now due to health n safety etc lol If you ever watched "On the buses" , it really was like that when I first started out as a kid. Many thanks for viewing and taking time to leave a comment :)
@@StBlazeyModelWorld I hear you, my late father in law was a driver for 30 + years in Glasgow. I think he had girlfriends all along his route, his Mrs caught him out due to one of them taking him his lunch while she was on the bus 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Anthony. I really thought I'd never get my hands on one but we live in a mysterious world. By the way my friend, many congratulations on hitting the 2K sub mark. Really well deserved :)
I loved the DMS didn’t get to drive one as my garage had metros ,it’s a superb model but the rear light clusters are wrong they didn’t come in until 1975 when the fleetline started to badged as a leyland the light clusters should be just indicator brake/ rear light and a spotlight reversing light but in the garage two beeps of the horn before reversing ,but im jealous mate I want one 😂from one bus driver to another take care and enjoy it sorry to pick out something forgive Cheers Mark 😊😊
No it's all good Mark and you are right. Sadly, no amount of money buys you the perfect model. I am considering some upgrades to this by installing a side desti...that may only be a decal...and maybe also some working interior lighting. I drove M class as well but the very early ones out of FW. Many thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment. i do genuinely appreciate it mate. Stay safe :)
I passed my test on M30 one of the FW former allocation that was the garage I had my test from ,the first 50 looked great in red and white didn’t they tell me our metros didn’t have it but what was that thing in the right hand corner of the dashboard it was black with a curved top and a round knob on it cheers mate
@@marksinthehouse1968 Oh mate it's so long ago. I cannot actually remember now. The M class had a sparse cab, like the DMS/SMS. Somewhere I have aphoyo of an M cab, I'll try to find it and see if I can help answer your question. IT sounds odd, possibly, but I drove just about everything on the road at that time, and you kind of forget small detail as the years pass. I was later an NBC man so drove everything with a Bristol and Leyland badge on as well....where did the years go?
I collect West Midlands buses specially Birmingham and I know some of them are expensive but I'm willing to pay the price to get what I want so I can understand where you're coming from and you know I still look for the Birmingham bus I haven't got my only memories are when I was a child in Birmingham when I used to go to the midland red bus station in Birmingham watch the buses go in and watch the buses go out it's a bit like Charlie and the chocolate factory really
There is nothing wrong at all in following the history of a particular place or area and collecting items that represent it if it has special meaning to you my friend. Many thanks for watching and taking the extra time to leave a comment :)
hi roger thats a gorgeous model to me its not the money its what your purchase brings to the buyer we only live once so live as you want great video my friend
Thanks for the visit Dave. I hope you are keeping well. I really must reserve some time to join one of your streams soon. Thanks for viewing and taking time to comment mate :)
Thank you kindly. I try to get my message across in a helpful way. Sometimes, like many of us who run channels, I can be a bit left field or controversial :)
@@StBlazeyModelWorld That’s ok, you are just keeping it real! You come across as knowledgeable and thorough without being pompous like some of the other channels.
Interesting video. Looks like you got a good selection of items. I do occasionally pick up job lots with a view to taking my time and selling on the majority of items separately. As a general rule of thumb I use the following low valuations of £20 per tender loco/large diesel, £10 per smaller diesel or 0-6-0 tank engines, £5 per 0-4-0 tank engines. Coaches I value at £5 per coach and wagons at £2.50 per item. If stock is more modern and has NEM pockets etc then I will value items more highly. Steel track I don’t tend to give any value to as it’s not worth a lot, but it will sell. Using my typical valuation system I would estimate value of the whole lot around the £250 to £300 mark. That will be on the low side because some items can vary a lot in price.
Well not far off but I won't state what was paid it was part business, part just helping clear some items for friend. You are right that steel track no value these days and of course, when valuing any collection of models I think it is also important to decided which items will be sold on and which, if any, are being kept for the buyer's own use.
Live in a very dry climate, Arizona, USA. I am a model railroader and a hobbyist wood worker. Our lumber dries out and, sometimes the wood knots fall out. The standard Gorilla glue works great due to it's expansive nature that locks the knot back in place. This is all I use this glue for nothing else.
I'm wanting to paint a model bus at the moment but I want to know. Without damaging the plastic circular cubes , is there any other way to take it out?
They can be prized out using a very fine pick tool but usually get damaged in removal. Sadly, I am not aware of anyone who sells replacement clips these days. In the past I used to glue the models back together because I always removed the interior poles as well. Please avoid the use of superglue though if you go with this option. The fumes from such glues are really strong and they attack the plastic glass units, causing them to haze out and prevented from being clear and see through. I hope that reply helps to some extent. Many thanks for viewing and asking a question :)
Many thanks for viewing and leaving a comment. The reason why I did not reveal the amount paid was that this a transaction with a personal friend rather than a more "straight forward" business deal. The gentleman concerned is also a viewer of the channel. IN hindsight, it would have been better for me to explain that more fully in the video and I am sorry if this left you disappointed in the overall video.
Not sure if you are aware or not but the audio pops in and out for a second or 2 at a time in various places... I have purchased a few bulk deals advertised and sometimes wondered if I got it for a good price or not.. but at the end of the day, we all have to be happy with our purchases... That looks like a good collection but it would depend on the price that the other person wanted and then the price you paid for it.. but with several locos track and rolling stock, it seems like a good buy. Also, something I do with the extra items that I do not want like 300 controllers etc... I sell them to get some money back from what I spent on the bulk lot. I have also bought some stated non-runners and then with a bit of TLC and a bit of soldering or just putting things back together correctly and a service the item runs perfectly and then resold. I also take a 9V battery with me to test the locos, I also check wheel movement on locos and rolling stock, there are some basic checks to do when looking at the items to know whether they are runners or repairs or just parts... Have a bit of knowledge of what you are buying and the prices on eBay or marketplace.. you can also do a quick check to see what that item was sold for recently on eBay by doing a sold search on that item, that will give you an idea of the price for that item or each item if the seller is happy for you to do some checks while there looking at the lot. If they are pushy making you make a decision and buy now or do not want to let you look at the items in a bit more detail it means to me that there is somethign not right with the lot and I would walk away...
Many thanks for your very helpful advice to other viewers. This deal was slightly different in that it was with a friend rather than a pure business transaction. I am aware of a sound issue on this video but thank you for notifying me of it. Many thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment
12:13 - This coach, as far as I know is an H0 scale model of a DB (Deutsche Bundesbahn) coach, made by Rivarossi. As you may have pointed out, Rivarossi is an Italian make and they have primarily made H0 scale items, as H0 is popular on mainland Europe and also in North America. One piece of advice I would give to anyone is don't confuse H0 with 00. They might share the same gauge, 16.5mm but H0 is built to a scale of 3.5mm : 1ft, compared to 00 which is built to a slightly larger scale of 4mm : 1ft (out of the two, H0 is the most accurate).
Thank you for the update on the coach. I did point out to my friend when I first looked at this entire group that it was as assortment of items acquired, rather than a collection that could be used. Many thanks for taking the time to view the video and leave a helpful comment :)
I have bought several non runner lots on ebay . Very rarely can i not get them running well with a good service . Make sure the body is good thats the hard bit to repair for me . Wheel linkages can be a nightmare on old Hornby dublo .
It is always a gamble but you right in all that you say. This collection was slightly different in that it was part business but I was also helping out a friend :)
Completely agree and fully support your position - so well said! 👍 Producing RU-vid videos is very time consuming and even in retirement those videos for Ewhurst Green do take precious time away from both railway modelling and research /running of BloodandCustard.
Hello and thank you for your video. I make models and it's my hobby. I post videos on RU-vid hoping to be of service. I don't expect anything in return, in fact I have nothing other than a few rare kind comments and that's enough.
