This is truely heartwarming and real .. this is something that people can touch . Not some promise from a government official trying to work his way up a society ladder. I was one of those triangle shaped kids trying to find my way. I was that skater / art /music lover that felt so out of touch with the rest of the world watching my outlet fall into dismay because nobody wanted to take the chance to help us kids do what we loved. It took many years and many people like Jeff , Tony H ,Mark Hubbard Rodney Smith (SHUT SKATES ) to try something different not for money but for the love of the sport. I’m 51 now and my knees are wounded but I still skate and I feel like every skater is my TRIBE. Love what these projects are doing for the kids , the outsiders so they have a TRIBE to feel part of. Big love to all you guys and girls for helping these kids. Shows what the skate community is really about. Not so much the Olympics or making money. It’s about more than that. Way more. I love that I’m a skater. I will never quit and I will always be a skater. ❤
I feel like some well respected skater should carry on with this series. It truly means something to people that love the history of skateboarding. Maybe change the name and put Grosso’s name to the title of new series. Rip Grosso ❤🤘🤙
They should have seen the writing on the wall, Street could have come in full force, replaced freestyle and left vert alone. It crashed because they made that cover...Transworld or Thrasher...I forget, but it said "Vert is dead". Everyone I knew who skated quit right then. There were 2 of us left. Funny part is we all skated street as well....Just a dumb move by the big 5, And Stesick
Love it. Need to get back into pools. Best feeling ever when you feel the bump of coping and the silence of air and the oh watch that light on the wall it happens so fast.
I am 60 years old now but in my teens into my early 30s I skated a lot. I had frontside airs wired over coping but my backside airs not that great. I could pull them off every now and then.
I had legit the same type of crash pulled a trick hole 🕳 face plant and scottys story makes me feel lucky Bc I knocked myself out cold had no helmet and already have neck problems. I always where a helmet now 😅 but not that day
Thrasher Skate Rock vol 5 was one of my first tapes along with Beastie boys licensed to ill. First place I heard SNFU who were from my province! Visiting the bad again is still one of my favourite SNFU tunes! All killer, no filler on that tape! Thank you Thrasher!
I miss Jeff grosso and I have to say that there is definitely unfortunately and no one has really stepped up to the plate in this area in my opinion but there is definitely a void in skateboarding
Street skating was before any type of skating including freestyle. Sidewalk surfing is street skating, then freestyle tricks were invented, those tricks were then incorporated back into street skating. You have to learn to ride a skateboard before you learn tricks. Doing tricks alone without the surfing aspect is not skateboarding.
bob burnquist...so gnarly and so butter. peter hewitt. tony hawk. rick mcrank. brian anderson. chris miller. hosoi. jayboy. man, just too many gnarly skaters out there.
I am so inspired by Tony Alva. I am 51 and just started to learn to skateboard because of my 8 y/o son. I fell completely in love with skateboarding (mostly carving and bombing small hills). My problem is that I live now in a country where the people struggle with women, especially at my age, skateboarding. I‘ve been mocked and asked why I‘m not at home caring for my family. I feel inspired now to just do what I do and not care about other’s opinions.
HR is the baddest muthafucka on the planet and he knows it. The Bad Brains took Punk and sent that shit to Mars! There is NO other band with the influence on hardcore punk that these beautiful black men had. They stay golden.
