I remember when this album with this song came out I recorded it onto a cassette that was interspersed with lots of other more up tempo songs from different bands. That summer I went to visit my friend in Ottawa with a few other people. On the way back we gave his roommate's girlfriend a lift back to Toronto as we were passing through there. Unbeknownst to me they had broken up that weekend. The distance between where they lived was too much . She was sitting in the back seat so I could see her in the rear view mirror as I drove. It was a late Sunday evening and the sun was setting as we approached Toronto still on the highway as Big Log came on. As I glanced in the rear view mirror she started rubbing her eyes and then tears were rolling down her cheeks. I thought maybe she was allergic to something in the air. She never spoke or said a word and then shortly after that we dropped her off in Toronto. I asked my friend sitting in the back if he saw what I did. He then told me that my friend's roommate had broken up with her that weekend. It then struck me like someone had punched me in the stomach the connection of her tears .the song and the lyrics. I really hadn't fathomed the meaning of them until the epiphany of seeing her tears. "My love is in league with the freeway ..my love didn't leave with the Freeway". Seeing her raw emotion and heart ache and realizing the connection to the song will forever be seared in my memory. Your stripped down version of this song brings all that back. I just cannot fathom what she would feel hearing this song. I would like to think it helped her to let go of all that pain and emotion and express some of it instead of trying to keep it inside where it does more damage I think . I think Robert Plant has a great emotional depth and your version definitely has that . Thanks for posting.
Hi there - I just used the tab from Ultimate Guitar as a reference point and embellished with finger picking the melody. Hope that helps and thank you so much for your kind words!
@@eleniskiba6031 , well done to you. I really love what you’ve done. Such a brilliant song and a great stripped back cover. But it doesn’t lose anything in the interpretation.
Beautifully done, loved the groovier tempo, & so subtly and Tastefully mixing in some stairway chords towards the end. I could feel your heart through your vocals. A++
