Is there a difference between stainless steel wool and regular steel wool? I heard that regular steel wool can rust but stainless steel wool wont.

Folks - please DO NOT do this! It’s a complete waste of time. You have to find the point of entry. In a kitchen, very likely any place a pipe comes through a wall - under kitchen cabinet, behind refrigerator (water line) and plug those. Use steel wool. It’s a proven method. Blocking up your dishwasher in this way will only cause headaches if you ever have an issue (a leak or service/repair).
@propertymanagementguy6619
@propertymanagementguy6619 Месяц назад
Thanks for the feedback @DJShaunLouis. I don't disagree that what you describe is the ultimate fix. In my situation there were large cutouts behind every appliance so that would be a sizable undertaking in itself. Ultimately my top priority was to keep them from getting onto my kitchen floor and into the pantry. This did the trick. See below for my response to a similar question a while back for more context. But do appreciate the feedback. Thanks for the question Peeta. For me it's about effort and result vs. time. You could certainly pull the dishwasher out and address any gaps in the back, but that would require detaching the dishwasher which is currently attached to the cabinetry in 2 spots, as well as worry about disrupting the lines moving in and out. The dishwasher is currently running fine, so it may be years before I'd need to pull it out, and as a result I chose to do this quick 10min fix. When the day comes that I need to pull it out, it's a quick effort to cut away the foam (just like you saw how I trimmed the excess), and pull out the dishwasher. At that point once it already needs to be out for repair or replacement, I'll then address the cabinetry gap in the back. But your suggestion is also a completely logical solution as well, just will take a larger effort

Compound joint mixed with finely crushed glass and steel wool. Make sure to wear good thick gloves. Shove that that into the whole. Remove excess compound joint and remember to be careful because of the small fragments of glass. Let dry, and then add mice sticky trap onto. Clear silicone caulk and steel wool blended together works well too. Tear their inside up.

I found copper mesh only effective if you roll it up. If you’re trying to use it as a barrier over an opening (instead of hardware cloth) the rats can chew through that like butter!

@@jays6553 let me know how it works out, with using the copper mesh. I had a rat bitten hole in my wall coming from the garage that I covered with copper mesh strips, (but the hole was behind a piece of furniture). & I didn’t find out until later, that eat right through that copper mesh. - Do you have a hole in your cupboard coming from the bottom? or coming from behind the wall?
@veejs05
@veejs05 2 месяца назад
@@MikeCee7 Unfortunately we have more than just holes. We have large cut outs from when we made the mistake of letting the insurance handle repairs after our kitchen had a major leak years ago. So I’m not able to just stuff mesh into a little hole, I have a large area to cover and I also have to get around the drain pipe etc. I’ll let you know how it goes
@MikeCee7
@MikeCee7 2 месяца назад
@@veejs05 I would use hardware cloth. That’s much stronger than copper mesh. (Copper mesh is only better to fold & “stuff” inside brick wall weep holes)

Rats can easily eat through thst copper mesh. (I know from first-hand experience) I had copper covering up a previous rat hole in my drywall. When I cover that opening with copper mesh. They ate right through it like it was butter.

These jerks started MOVING the Steel Wool out of their way after all of my cats had passed. I have this super-strong 2-sided tape used for taping down rugs. Since I had SW already, I used this tape around the SW under the sink & in some cabinets, which seems to work. I've now ordered the copper mesh to use instead, & the foam you suggested on your videos. Oddly, they are still getting into a very sealed, closed cabinet 6' off the ground, I've pulled everything out, nothing, no holes at all. Just glassware in there, not stopping them. I guess they're opening the cabinet doors to enter, which I do NOT want to see.
@veronah.6553
@veronah.6553 7 месяцев назад
I have used steel wool & not Duct Tape - worse, really. The tape you use to seal down rugs, it's 2-sided. Very hard to work with, it sticks to everything. I've shoved in the SW, they actually kind of MOVED it aside. Now I've used this rug tape around the SW. They have not re-entered under my sink. All my food is sealed. You know what they ate?! A rough sponge! I couldn't believe it. And I do think they open cabinets at night, higher up on the walls, new cabinets, no holes, sealed them anyway. Surprise. Mouse Poop. They must be opening them from the front somehow. Honestly, I don't even want to see or picture that, thank you.
