so like im grateful for your video, i started marching band and i think they go a bit too fast so yeah your aligments are almost thr same ones just that we put our chin high up
Woah woah woah omg y'all get to bend your knees?!?? !!! Omg my band doesn't let us bend our knees we have to roll step and it's so hard. If we bend our knees we die
@UCLCp98JDgzHIVrk7CY6zfUA yes I know now because we had to do the 4th of july parade(it was hell but at least we all had to suffer together) And imagine my relief when my friends had no idea what they were doing either
From an ex marching band student let me tell you guys when you do that roll step you are hyperextending your knees and looking forward to future days with serious Physical Therapy as an adult. And if you don’t need knee replacement you’ll be lucky!
I love seeing how different every school does it. We dont do check and close or act. But thats what makes every school unique in its marching. Each school has a different flare. For us we go from parade rest to attention and yell "RAIDERS!" Before proceeding with our marches. Then when we do a backwards march we HAVE to yell "UP!" and also, counting time is very important, be sure not to forget that. Your left foot should ALWAYS hit on the first and third beat in a 4/4 song, as she was clapping (left, right, left, right would be 1,2,3,4) its very important to remember left foot is ALWAYS first. In everything. When marching. You are rolling your feet, not just walking so your feet should go "Heel, Ball, Toe" when marching. But those are just a few extra tips for beginners! I loved the video
HiOkBye that's how you're supposed to read/speak rhythm lol. The "te" counting system is really used mostly in middle and elementary school ensembles lol
Yes you are supposed to bend your knees on my rookie year of band camp I passed out on the first day because I locked my knees so yes you need to bend your knees.
Instead of "check and close" we say "point together" *director says* Five six, five six seven eight *everyone counts* one two three, check five six seven, point together
practicing with a metronome will give you the best results even though it may feel constricting and time consuming. Start with a slow comfortable tempo and gradually increase by maybe two bpm at a time or so. there are metronome apps and some online that you can use. There was also a really good video I found about finding your internal rhythm. I'll find it and comment again brb
Brooke Baker Only the REALLY good players get to be in marching band in 7th grade. And then in 8th grade, anyone who wants to be in marching band can do it. I didn't get in for 7th grade but I'm starting band camp next month for my 8th grade year. I'm so excited!😄
Yeah every band has different styles, like mine uses the same techniques as the bluecoats because my band directors son was the head drum major for them
I am watching this because I have not gone to the marching band practice because they never told me when they were and now when I get to marching band practice on the first day of school I will be clue less on what to do I just hope that I can learn how to march fast and since I did not go to marching band practice I don't know that music I guess it sucks when you don't know something
I never got to be in my school's marching band because it was discovered that I had scoliosis. I learned this after the first day of our camp when they kept getting mad at me for not aligning my body correctly in practice moves such as these. That was my last time ever marching because they would not let me anymore. Life moves on and all that but, I still would have liked to have known marching (or Corps) since it always looked fun to me.
i have it too and it doesnt stop me at all. when they get mad at me , i look at them like they stupid and keep going. if yu really want it , go for it ❤
This is not marching. This is walking. Marching is where you bring you leg up to a 90° angle so your thigh is parallel to the ground with your toe pointed down. This is la la corps band walking. The one and only way to march is the traditional high stepping, shoulder swinging marching step
+Zakary Wienberg I never said corps bands march at 90°. Most people who have ever watched a traditional style marching band like traditional marching more than corps. corps band try to tell some story where traditional actually plays music that people want to listen to
When you first get into marching band, do they teach you all this ? How much time do they spend learning this stuff ? Or will they already expect you to know it ? Ahhg I'm scared
I guess every band is different in mine parade rest is feet shoulder length apart and your still in set position and your head is down and for me before you march you don't have feet apart they are together and we don't use the pistol position and we don't call it check and close we call it a band halt
This was a good video, some of the things being taught mainly depend on the school you attend. For example, my school's parade rest we have our feet together and it's always left hand over right hand for us. Also, we have as little as possible leg bend during forward marching.
