Two fundamental misinterpretations in this video.... a) You said that what is sold in the local market os what is leftover after the teas are exported. This is absolutely wrong. Teas that are exported and teas that are sold in the local market are generally purchased from the Colombo Tea Auctions, the only tea auctions in Sri Lanka. There are different teas that are exported. For an example, China, Russia, Japan, Europe..etc purchases good quality Ceylon tea while Iraq, Africal countries generally look for low priced teas, meaning low quality teas. Similarly, in the local market both high quality and low quantity teas are sold. The same quality that is exported is widely available in Sri Lanka in any supermarket. b) You said that BOPF is more expensive than DUST. This too is not correct. There are different grades / types of DUST teas. For an example.... DUST, DUST 1 and PD (PEKOE DUST). These grades are mainly based on leaf size rather than quality (since in every tea grade you get the select best, best, secondary and the poor quality). At times there are high quality BOPF selling at the tea auctions at Rs. 1400/- while there are some high quality DUST1 teas selling at around Rs. 1650/- per kg at the tea auctions.
