Two end game goal, one use the bike on the salt flats to try to take Burt Munro's land speed record, two to maybe eventually restore the bike for road going use. This is all happen simultaneously as I am complete project portions as I have available parts to do so. Right now the head and cylinders are currently in Portland, OR. at Baisley Hi-Performance.
today discover that you don't have to remove everything if you want to disassemble your saddle. that's where the battery is. for a roadmaster you have to disassemble the 2 side and top box to access the bolt on the mudguard that holds the saddle. you can loosen the two side bolts when you take off the side covers. you can pull the 12 volt socket in the box out if you push it upwards from the outside (near the backrest) along the bottom while wobbling. you do not have to disconnect the plugs. then you can lower an Allen screw with an extension into the hole and loosen the bolt. push the saddle back and disconnect plugs and it's off.without removing the boxes
If you’re leaking oil on left side it could be you are over filling. There’s a little channel that routes out overfill. 600cc’s 👍🏾 I had the same problem with my ysr50. I deleted the oil pump when I installed a 24mm flat slide mikuni now I premix 32/1.
I got it installed, I don't know about jetting yet. What I do know is it is actually quieter at idle than factory. It is also significantly lighter than factory, by like several factors.
@@graymaneracing53 Nice. On a ysr forum they said there was an issue with the bolt backing off over time. Once I get mine running, I'll look out for that.
You may want to install a Nord-Lock washer, I think I did or I was planning to. I use them to hold exhaust nuts on most my other bikes. www.nord-lock.com/
@@graymaneracing53 Interesting. I've never heard of that before so thanks. I can't weld so I was going to braze a tab and, I guess, safety wire? 🤷🏻♂️ These lock washers look way easier.
At 5:12 how did you remove the nut pad? I can't see inside the hole of my nut pad and I don't want to just rip it off. Would appreciate your help. Thanks!
There is a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screw in the hole, I just lightly set the screw driver into the hole and slowly turned it until it fell into place. then added some light pressure to hold the screw driver in the screw and backed the screw out.
I always loved talking to the old guys at swap meets & show an shines and the best parts for me was when they pulled out the old photo books and you could see the stages of life being returned to the vehicle. I have 3 more bikes to restore this is just sorta my test adventure. I kind of stuck waiting on parts or I'd have the next video out by now.
Gray Mane Racing If you belong to Facebook, I’m apart of a page where there’s a group of us YSR dudes. I’m sure they’d love to know about your restoration and can even help you out with obtaining OEM or JDM parts.
@@lilmoto2053 Oddly enough every time I go looking for JDM parts this little bike has most of them. I do how ever have and have installed the JDM rear lights.
Gray Mane Racing Yahoo Japan Auction/Jauce, if your looking for JDM parts. More YSR’s were produced over in Japan then over here making JDM stuff more common and cheaper.
Actually bought that new from fairing from Team Calamari as well as the front signal lights, was thinking about maybe getting the front fork brace as well if I can ever find one.
Gray Mane Racing I know there is some Calamari front fork braces on EBay for around $200+ but if you really want to go all out, their is a Daytona front fork brace and man are the pricey. Also, are you guys gonna put a pipe on it. 😏
@@ethank3939 I have the pipe, I gotta order the adapter from TC, that might be the next step. Thinking of getting rid of the factory airbox. Though I want to keep the the oil mix pump, so I'm likely to be keeping the factory carb. I'm not really into racing the YSR. I plan to ride the YSR but it's not very likely for the YSR to see any track time. With all that being said it doesn't make too much sense for me to go all out and make it track ready.
Gray Mane Racing Did you get a Calamari, DG, or Toomey pipe and if I was you I wouldn’t run the stock oil pump bc if it decides to go out then your motor is gonna lock up. Most guys including myself run a block off plate and plug off the carb then just run premix. Also, a UNI Airfilter works pretty good on the stock carb if you didn’t want to use the stock air box. And if I was you I would get a stage 2 dynojet carb kit for it to increase power and it helps for better all around power considering that you have a pipe.
@@ethank3939 Pretty sure I got a DG pipe, If you look in the video you can see it hanging behind the Harley one. I suck at premixing fuel and I hate caring oil, that being said I could probably build a valve system into the existing oil tank and just use that and a mixer bottle/measuring container. I plan to run this in the Fiddy Run (facebook.com/groups/fiddyrun/), so I don't really want to seize the engine.
