Thinking about my next WR target lens for a Fuji X- T1. Would this be a better lens for street than, say a 70 - 300? I’ve recently got into Fuji and own a 16 f1.4 and the 35 f2 (both WR).
Hard to say depending of what kind of street photography you plan to do. In my case, I feel very self aware getting close to strangers to snap a photo and most of the time they notice it :) This lens allows me to keep a certain distance, to observe more without feeling that I'm entering other's people personal space. It's a very specific lens, but I had very good results with it. I also used it for portraits, it's excellent for that and for concerts where I needed a bright tele lens. You can also use the camera app and control it from your phone to take pictures without being noticed. I'm making a video about that.
This is a stunning lens for razor sharp images with beautiful bokeh to separate the subject. And also a great lens for macro even. For me it is my number one lens for concert photography in manual mode.
Agree it's an amazing lens. I used it for a couple of concerts as well and it was great. Agree even if it's not directly marketed as a macro lens, it does a very good job at it
Bellissima lente, tutta in metallo.
Have original one but the only problem is if,when focus motor dies, its really a paperweight due to cost to fux. Otherwise it is fantastic and is glued to one of my caneras.
Good video, and the reasoning is good. I shoot mainly portraiture with my X-T3 I have the 23mm F/1.4 (sigma), the 35mm F/1.4 and the 56mm F/1.4 (Sigma). I found that the 35mm is the least used lens by a long way now. I recently got the X100VI... now that has thrown everything and 1 of the reasons is the close focusing distance. You can not replace the compression you get from longer focal lengths (which you comparison shows) and in turn the more flattening look for portraits. I am going to struggle to justify keeping the Sigma 23mm F/1.4 although it is probably my favourite lens (I'll keep it, just can't justify keeping it) If I was starting again.... I honestly think i could work professionally with just the X100VI (although 1 SD card slot would leave me worried for mission critical stuff)... lack of tethering too. In out business we have two photographers (using Fuji) We sold the XC 35mm F/2 in favour of keeping the XF35mm F/1.4 when I was using the 23mm way more we didn't need the duplication for a focal length we were not going to be using two cameras with at the same time anymore.
Thank you! As long as you love the 23mm f/1.4 that's justification enough :) The lack of a second slot for the X100VI was a bit disappointing when I read the specs the first time. It would make me nervous too if using professionally. In another video I reviewed the 23mm f/2 some people commented that it has some issues with sharpness at close range. I wonder if you experienced something similar with the 23mm f/1.4?
I had the original back in the X-Pro 1 days, has same optics as the new WR version.... I really didn't like it Back then I had the 18mm F/2, 27mm F/2.8, 35mm F/1.4, and 60mm F/2.4 the 27mm was always so close to the 35mm and worse in everyway for me, so it never got used. fast forward 10 years, I still use the 35mm F/1.4 (granted not on an X-Pro 1) however my 2 go to lenses are the 23mm or the 56mm. Pleased you are enjoying that lens :)
Thanks for sharing. That's a nice selection of lenses you have there. So far I'm still enjoying it, but I'm still new to this lens, time will tell. I had the 35mm f/2 and it was really nice, I would love to get the 35mm f/1.4 you mentioned. A bit bigger than the pancake but I think it's worth it. The 56mm is in my list! :)
@@pietrozuco The 35mm F/1.4 has flaws, but to quote me and everyone else, it is special :) I preferred the Sigma 56mm to the original fuji 56mm and am really happy with it. The New Fuji is great, but it is not £500 better than the sigma, the sigma is 95% there in my opinion for half the cost. If you get the chance to test them, I'd recommend it
Hi,it gives me the same experience. Great for the street, I use it together with the 18mm 1.4 a rather big lens. I hope to acquire the xt50 so it will be even more compact then now with the xt5. Would be a perfect combination for weddings etc.
Nice, I think we have the same lens haha! I have a very old Pentax 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens. I'm using it with an adapter. Unfortunately the lens has some fungus inside. I'm planning to clean it in a future video. It's a beautiful lens!
I used to have 27 mm first generation and sold it. It was kind of slow, noisy and nothing special in the sense of image rendering... Got me 18mm f2 instead and it was much more fun to use it! Though 28mm eq is rather too wide for me still it was more joy to use it comparing to 27mm. I think that the ideal AF street lens for FX is yet to be produced! If not Fuji I wish 7artisans or TTartisan will make it! Something like 25-27 mm f2 with relatively good AF and maybe water-proofed .. and not bigger than Fuji's 18mm f2 lens in size! Something like X100VI has or little longer, around 25mm and detachable! lol
That would be ideal. I tried the TTArtisans 25mm, MF thought, and it was great, but then decided to get the 27mm, atm I'm having more fun with it. I'm not sure about the 18mm though, a bit too wide for street photography I guess, but I can imagine it's ideal for travelling and capturing a bit of everything. I would love to see some 7Artisans or TTArtisans to make some AF lenses for FX!
@@pietrozuco Yes 25mm from TTartisan has good reputation, yet I'd love it being AF! TTartisan've done it already with 27mm f2,8 - it IS AF lens it is just a little bigger that Fuji's 27 and some saying the image has more character than original Fuji but it is not technically perfect (what is? lol) and not WR. And it is still 2,8.
Interesting no idea they started. That's good news. I have a Viltrox 13mm and the AF is great on it. I hope the other ones catchup and start offering AF soon
Interesting, I don't know, but now I'm curious to check that. I assumed it's correct, I didn't read any complains online from people using it. Unfortunately, I don't have the lens anymore, I had to sell it
While I think making these super thin lenses is awesome , the end results look like generic cell phone pics and is not using the camera to its full potential :/. If I had to choose between this setup vs a cell phone, I'd rather shoot with my phone, that's just me though.
Agree, the quality is worse than one of the first cheap cell phones. I had fun with it though, as a toy lens and being that thin, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything serious, it's just a funny lens :)
Do not buy this lens, it's terrible. Any smartphone camera in the last 10-15 years takes better photos. Go get a spare battery with the money. I got this lens last week and really tried loving it... it distorts really bad, low contrast, flares a lot, all shots are blurry even on infinity, heavy vignetting, colors are weird etc.
Yeah I think it’s been said that the purpose is to give you a disposable camera look for your interchangeable lens camera. Very lofi. Gotta be into the flaws.
Indeed the lens is not about the quality, as @thomp mentioned I think they want to give that disposable camera look. It's a cheap toy lens to have fun with :)
I love my 16, 23, 33, and 56mm WR's! The 16mm f1.4 is a little bit older but still produces nice images. Good videos ,I subscribe, keep up the good work
Thank you for your words! Agree they are all lovely lenses! I need to give it a try to the 16mm f1.4. I have a Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 which I'm planning to make a review. Really nice lens, I would love to compare it with the Fujifilm 16mm f1.4 you mentioned above. The Fuji one is WR, which is a plus
As long as the camera has an HDMI output, it should work. It's mostly independent of the camera. As long as you have something to capture that HDMI, like Elgato Cam Link: amzn.to/44bMSha
Also just a tip, the algorithm prioritises watch time (because the longer a viewer spends on RU-vid, the more time RU-vid has to advertise to them), so possibly starting a series of longer form content (like your photo recap video where you showed off your shots) might help your channels growth aswell as keeping these short formed videos. Either way though, I still like your vids and it’s your channel so you don’t have to change your style if it’s not what you want to express in your videos 😁 keep at it bro
Thanks for the support! What you are saying is totally right! I'm working on a video where I'm planning to share the strategy I'll planning to apply this year after watching hours of RU-vid advice and reading tons of articles. One of the topics is precisely starting with short videos, despite the need for a longer format to keep balance between time engaged and ads. Let's see if the strategy makes sense and work or if it's total nonsense haha! we will see :) Another video photo review video is coming soon!
Another great video. My favourite photo of yours with the 23mm was the photo inside the phone booth, and with the 35mm, the chain link with moss was stunning. Keep it up, and thanks for the review. I think it's time I invest in a 23mm prime. 🙂📸
Thank you for your words!! I got recently the 27mm f/2.8, working on a review atm, and I might end up loving the 27mm pancake more than the 23mm! haha!
Another banger, this is such an interesting concept and you have a lot of really useful advice on composition, lighting and colour. Keep up the good work 😉 📷
Nice video and comparison! I’ve had both of these but only the 7Artisans right now. Gave the Meike away. I really like them, even though they’re soft at 0.95. And they’re pretty! Right? The Meike especially. It’s the nicest looking lens I’ve ever had. Anyway, about focusing, can I suggest trying to zoom in and focus that way instead of using focus peaking? Personally I feel like the focus peaking gets in the way. Every time I rely on it, I never get focus exactly where I want. But which zooming in, I get focus precisely where I want.
Thank you. Agree the Meike is a really nice looking lens! very elegant. About focusing, I agree, the focus peaking gets in the way, I find it annoying, but my eyesight is not that good, even with the diopter adjustment control, it helps but it's not perfect, so I have trouble to see 100% sharp through the viewfinder and if I use the screen I need to switch to my reading glasses. Old people's life hahaha. The focus peaking helps in that regard. After using it for a while, I got used to where it's actually focusing, I'm just afraid it might easily change on firmware updates or using other cameras
No worries, thanks. I wish camera makers took diopter adjustment control a bit more seriously. It only adjusts myopia but it doesn't take into account astigmatism for example. Anyway I can't complain, my case is not that bad. The positive side is that with those lenses, learning zone focusing can help a lot, specially in street photography
That's correct, the full frame equivalent, as per Fuji's website for the lens is 137mm. Take that into account if planning to use it on a full frame camera, from another manufacturer using a lens converter.
Really? I didn't have issues taking close portraits, but to be honest, I didn't try it close to objects either. I'll give it a try, thanks for the suggestion
Agree that would be great. What about the XF27mmF2.8 R WR? it's very similar, except for the f2.8 of course. I think they are out of stock, but I would love to give it a try and see how different the experience would be compared with the 23mm f/2
Hey Pietro! Long time no see 😃 so you moved from Nikon to Fuji? I have the Super Takumar 55mm F1.8 but mine is already yellow because of the radiation... Cool lens anyway.
Hey indeed, long time no see! I decided to move from Nikon to Fuji, I needed to update my Nikon equipment and took the risk to go all the way with Fujifilm and so far I don't regret it. I'm really happy with Fujifilm. I still love Nikon and the reliability, which is a system I would consider for other scenarios, but so far, for what I need, Fujifilm is working great and the latest X-H2S is a fantastic camera. I love those Takumar lenses, maybe there's a method to restore the yellowish in your lens, but anyway, that aging, I think it's part of the charm :)
Nice. I especially liked the duct taped lens to head approach. I've been living in Japan since 1999. I use this same lens with my X-T1. Measured it with my radiacode 103 and the alarm went off. The rear element is coated with thorium. I find the results with this lens warm and pleasing compared to the cold and clinical results from Chinese lenses like TT and 7 artisans (not that they're bad at all).
Since 1999 that's a long time! I moved there in 2000 and spent the best 10 years of my life. Agree this lens gives very nice warm results, I'm too lazy to put the adapter and take it out, I should do it more often. Yoroshiku :)
