Thank you for the video. My Onkyo TA 2760 has the same mechanism. There is a way to get this motor off without dissasembling everything. Beauty plate can be taken out first, then it is easy. Only difficult are the tabs and to position shafts correctly. Cleaning and greasing worked 100%. Thank you again.
Excellent work. Looking better than when they left the factory! Dynaco speakers are rarely seen, in England, but if I find a pair I'll bag them! I am now off to the bay of e....
I had the same problem. It's because the motors are switched off after 25 milliseconds after a movement has been completed (each motor separately). This is set in the configuration of GRBL at the setting $1 default. If the setting is set to $1=255, the motors remain completely on and no longer switch off. The problem that occurs when switching off with default settings is that vibrations from the other running motors can cause the switched-off axis to move slightly. Set the setting to 255 and the problem is gone.
Hi Tim, great video. I inherited one of these from my dad, and I'm currently trying to set it up, but falling at the first hurdle; connecting it to a power source! Can you help? I'm trying to connect it to a Tandberg TR-200 reciever. I've been assuming that the bare ended wire from the TD160 connects to the reciever somewhere, and gets power somewhere, but it's not at all obvious to me exactly where it should do that! Or should I, being in the UK as I am, connect a British power plug to the bare ended wire from the TD160? Hmm
@@navydiving not as I can see. There are two cables coming from the TD160 (and no other cables or sockets). One ends in twin RCA connectors. The other also looks - to my untrained eye - like RCA wire (it's the same as the other cable), but the end is bare copper. It has me puzzled as I don't recal taking a plug off anything when I picked it up!
@navydiving My assumption right now is that the bare ended cable is actually the power cord, and I'll need to fit a UK power plug. One wire to the live pin, one to the neutral. But, without opening the case to see what's coming from where, I've no idea which of the twin bare wires is which. I'm also wondering what amp fuse to use in the plug (1A? 3A?). It has me pretty puzzled 😅
Hello. I dig RU-vid for some salvaged labels and I stopped here! I have a 1878 Boney M cassette tape that was in pretty bad condition, so i transplant the tape to another "epoque" shells but i think that the acetone you used to peel off your labels will damage the ink printed in mine. I was thinking about steaming. Did you try that before the acetone method? Thank you for your time 🙏
@carlosalves72 you are right. Acetone will not work on everything. I am sure there are many ways to skin a cat. All you can do is try. A lot depends on the type of adhesive used and the method of printing/type of backing stock is used. Try looking for a similar label on a crappy tape and do some experimenting.
Just bought a 165, without any knowledge😅. The oscillation you show at the end...wow..if i gently push down mine, it just moves up to original position, not a single oscillation. So better i fix that, or is it not that important? Thanks!
How difficult would it be for someone to reach the beach with a mobility cane? Were thinking of making French beach for our first camping trip in our lifetime. Do you remembet what campsite no you had?
Nice. I'm pickin' up a L70 tomorrow, with the original Goldring arm, with the Dunhill lighter headshell.. Got a Denon DL 103 I'll try on, to se how it matches up.. "Too heavy" you say, but didn't you like the sound of the orig arm?
Your rig sure sounds great, dude! Congrats! Maybe another pickup, but otherwise you're good to play...! Now a little about its history. 70s turntables are special in the story of hi-fi. They were the result of a long line of gradual improvements, and thos of this era (circa 1975-1977) represent the absolute pinnacle. Home hi-fi went viral and all the manufacturers sought to out do one another, no expenses spared. This little brother of the 1200 "DJ-model" is state of the art, almost. The MarkII has some other light mechanism but yours is pretty close to perfection for my money. Sure you can waste more money, but it's a game of seriously diminishing returns. I mean speed of light diminishing. 😜
Thanks for the video, now I know how to make the cue level slow down again. I ordered a small amount of silicone oil of 500.000 cst to fix my Thorens TD-145 Mk 2 next week.
I would have loved to see a video of you inspecting the motor and belt... was disappointed that you did the inspection of the motor and spindle before you started the video... Do you have another video doing motor spindle evaluation ? GREAT videos !
I have this exact model that I bought new when it came out and have recently been digitizing tapes. I am having the same problem of it eating tapes in one direction. I noticed your teardown was very fast and I am nervous about breaking or losing parts. Do you have step by step that could assist so that I don't do more damage in the repair?
@markmanenator Regrets I do not. Slow and steady is my recommendation. I would also recommend filming the teardown so you remember the order in which you disassembled things. Very helpful to do that I find. Also take lots of photos.
Get rid of the wife and put the audio where it should be and enjoy it ! Why buy a good quality audio system and stuff it flat on some shelves amongst the books and ceramic decorations because the wife says so ? Half enjoying the sound is not enjoying it , like life !
@@navydiving ha, a very cunning plan , just slowly infiltrate them into every aspect of the house and before long they’ll look perfectly normal and at home there . Move them an inch a day closer to the living room and she will hardly notice the big horn floorstander speakers !
Thanks so much for such an informative video. You seem to really know your stuff. Question: just bought a used td 160 it’s really lovely but the tone arm doesn’t seem to be grounded. I can hear static whenever I touch or move it. It has new rca cables with a grounding wire that helps but still quite noticeable. Any ideas how I could fix this? Thanks for your time.
@jupitermoongauge4055 Not everyone's cup of tea I know but I didn't do this for everyone. I did it for me. 😉 You will be comforted to know I have another set of 44 and 405-2 in the original drab colours...
Hey Tim. Do you have any of these headshells for sale? I recently bought a TD160 and would love to have a couple of extras. I see that you share the plans on thingiverse, but I don't want to buy a 3D printer just for a couple of headshells. I live in Tacoma, WA so I'm not far from you. I love your videos, they have helped me very much with the restoration and mods I have done on my Thorens.
@derrickdochterman2184 where are you located? I am in Victoria, British Columbia. Cost of shipping is all I would charge. (Email me cldo9201 at gmail dot com) I do have a bunch, but you will need to order one of these for it: www.audiosilente.com/spare-parts-for-turntables-thorens-td-160-td-166-td-145-td-165-td-125-thorens-connector-for-headshell.html
