Got them on my T5 and made a massive improvement, the stiffer sidewalls have helped imensly with cornering and overal stability. Had Yokohama advans before and the RS-4s are way better to drive with.
As a Finn, I agree that X-Ice North 4 is a great winter tire. I too used studded Hakkapeliitta tires for years but I think Michelin is actually better if you care about the traction. Michelin makes more noise, though, so if that matters for you more than the performance of the tire, maybe you have to with Hakkapeliitta. Even with X-Ice North 4 you have to respect the winter. Those are the best tires you can get but they will not convert the winter into dry tarmac traction.
Great of you guys to touch on the dry road longevity and siping down to 2/32nds. These tires are great for this climate. Mechanic here too, subscribed.
Best to speak with the grey car driver in the pits after this event. Constructive criticism is best received when delivered in a calm and productive manner. Track days at RMM are never racing. Track days are a team event, with all drivers showing respect and courtesy to one another.
We totally agree! The Sonic Grey CTR in front of us is one of our best friends, we always talk about our driving and both cars were in on this. We got his permission just to show how he pushed the limit a bit too far, a good learning moment for us to share!
Washing a tire in water like that could negatively impact the humidity of the air inside, I dont think that would be recomended for racing purposes where tire pressure is important for performance
I guess these are good providing you temper your expectations. They are like a street tyre that case do spirited driving and light track duty. They are responsive and easy to drive. Pretty good initial turn in and bite but sidewalls are softer than more trackday oriented tyres. They also heatsoak relatively quickly when pushed hard but don't really need to b be warmed up to get optimum performance out of them. Comfort is firm but not too harsh. Rain is okay at first but they get pretty sketchy as they wear. At least the tyre is communicative in the lack of wet grip. My set lasted me about 40,000kms on a street driven 1999 MX5
I wore all the way through (showing threads) the outer soft compound in 13,000 miles but i also drive very hard and the front end on my s5 needs more negative camber. I'm considering getting continental extremecontact sports next. I'm hoping for a little less grip for better rotation and more heat resistance since my car is so heavy
