Medicare doesn't think "dental is unnecessary". When Medicare was created decades ago, the dental (entities that be) were against joining with Medicare.
Okay so understanding all of this what individual insurance plans are out there for seniors? Trying to get an insurance company to answer Instead of a call center?
Medicare or any other insurance company’s dental Is a joke and totally out of scope with dental care. Example: I have a capped tooth that has a root canal. My cap came off. I went to my dentist and he said he can’t fix it . He gave me a dentist that could extract the tooth and either put in a fake tooth or simply extract the tooth. I went to the dentist he suggested. They wanted 5 k for a fake tooth or 1800 to extract it. With insurance. My dental has a 1500 yearly with two free cleanings . Totally out of touch with dental care
Hi MJ. You have to have a valid Special Enrollment Period in order to enroll in Part D past your initial enrollment period. Do you have other prescription coverage outside of Medicare?
would someone with Psoriatic Arthritis who takes Humira pen twice a month fail underwriting ??? Because the real cost is not to the part B supplement carrier, it is to the part D drug plan ? Just curious.
Hi Ray- any type of injectable medications can be pretty tricky- a lot of carriers will accept arthritis, as long as is doesn't inhibit functions of daily life
I just got Cigna Preferred Top Tier Savings HMO since i'm on SSI/DI & qualify for "extra help." It cost me nothing. It actually saves me money. No waiting periods, yearly $20k for prosthetics, $0 co pays for x-rays, extractions & all kinds of stuff. No more waiting periods & $1k or $1500 a year coverage starting in 2024. I save $175 on my SSI/DI check each month. Vision & my docs included.
How is the co-payment computed? Up to $20 and Up to $50 is ambiguous. What is there to stop a Dr office from always charging $20 for an office visit? WHat would trigger a lower copay than $20
Typically the premium difference annually between Supplement 1 and Supplement 1A is lower than the Part B deductible, so you are paying more for the 1A than you would if you paid the Part B deductible.
How many co payments would you have had to pay? Plan N pays for the whole surgery except the doctor visits. I figured the difference in monthly payments from a plan g to a plan n I would have to pay copayments on 4 doctor visits a month for the whole year. Plan G was $80 more a month than Plan N.
I thought the Medicare part B deductible has to be met first before copays apply. In other words, even with the plan G, you would have to pay the full office visit if your deductible is not met yet. Thats because if the office visit is not covered, then it goes to the supplement plan which doesn't go into effect until the Part B deductible is met. However, Medicare does allow 1 office visit a year that doesn't fall under the deductible if it's coded as a Wellness Check.
Hello, this video is so informative. I have a few questions. Can a person switch from an advantage plan to a supplement plan all year? If so, how soon will the change take effect?
As a Mass resident, I would certainly opt for 1A. I have been led to believe that (in general) original Medicare plus a Medigap plan (e.g. G or N) would be honored in all 50 states. And that there are no doctor network or other such limitations. Is that also true for Mass residents with original Part A, B and Medigap 1A?
Thank you or your video but you mentioned if you are on disability and plan on buying a supplement plan. I am 64 and turning 65 at the end of the year. When can I sign up for a supplemental plan? Is it 6 months after I turn 65 or can I sign up 6 months before? I was looking at buying a supplemental plan a couple of years ago but because I wasn't 65 the prices were outrageous.
Hi Jamie. Thanks so much for your great videos. I've been on a Medicare Advantage plan for a few years and watched a lot of different videos about switching to a Supplement plan. Without your video I wouldn't have known that in NY you can switch without underwriting - that's a very important thing to know! Most others didn't mention that, and one fellow that did couldn't sign me up for the plan I wanted. Laurel did a great job of signing me up today. Keep up the good work!
Hello Jamie, I applied for Medicare parts A and B on 10/7 (in process) but wont be 65 till December 30. When Can I apply for a Medigap plan? Do I have to wait till I'm 65? I see some plans charge you a lot more if you apply before your 65th birthday. Thank you very much :)
Hi Paul! You can actually apply for a Medigap plan up to 6 months before it becomes effective! If you send me an email at Jamie@MedicareByJamie.com, I would be happy to get you some quotes and helpful information :)
Good morning, Jamie…so helpful and understandable. I don’t have a Medicare rep and I enjoy you slow and Senior friendly explanations. I would like you to review my plan to see why my Premium is so high. Recommend someone in my area. 93306 Thanks J
I just think the high deductible Plan G is the smart choice for healthy people. Why would I pay almost $2400 a year in premiums for G, when I can pay $600, even less a year. Worse case scenario, I end up spending the whole deductible of $2340 plus $600 in premiums for $2940, or $540 more than the yearly premium for Plan G. But I'm saving $1800 every year in premiums. And Medicare still pays 80%, so the $2340 has to come from your 20%, which means you would have to have medical bills totaling $11,700 before you paid out the whole $2340.
How about changing company A to company B within a Medigap Plan? For example policy A and policy B within plan N, policy A increases in price above Policy B so switch from A to B within the Plan.
hi question i am retired from verizon i will be in a verizon advantage plan the davis vision plan i have with verizon from lsts till April 31 ,2023 then it goes on a voucher system is there a better way or is this a good plan
Great information specific to New Yorkers! I am amazed how many of my friends of the same age do not know about this or understand the benefit of open enrollment available to them. It's a shock that this state would do anything to benefit seniors! This was a game changer for my decision to go with GHD. I'm in good health, take a couple generic Tier 1 meds and rarely go to the doctor except for preventive checkup once a year. The video is a couple years old so you might want to consider a refresh at some point. Thanks again.
Thank you! This helped me decide on the GHD Plan since I live in NY and the standard G Plan premium for 2022 is now $203/mo! I'm in good health and average about 1.5 doctor visits for the past five years. Some bloodwork and two tier 1 generic meds is all I have at this point.
Hi D Tom! I am glad you found this video helpful. I would be happy to also help you enroll in the GHD plan! You can always give me a call at 833-65JAMIE (52643) :)
It's even closer than your math shows ... if you also 'bake in' the standard G deductible. I agree with you that the GHD is 'worst case' ... and if you don't need a lot of healthcare for a year, you can pocket the diff.
Johnny, exactly! I like to think of GHD as a worst case scenario but putting a stop on your out-of-pocket. If you have a great year, you have a big savings!
