That woman bleating about not being comfortable.. any more of it and she'd be over the side.. It was clear from way back that the passing would be close but safe provided that both vessels stood on.. She needs to learn to S T F U.
Why are you whining about this so much all over lake Michigan Superior all this and always had boats coming close and you're making a mountain out of a molehill bunch of whiners
Please take this as an advice or please take it in good terms from one sailor to another. Please take the US Coast Guard Seamanship Course, I have sailing for more than 20 years and I have always been amazed the thousands upon thousands of people navigating our coasts and the oceans, don't know the simple rules of navigation. Right of a way , sailboats generally have the right of a way over motoring boats, but boats with a bigger tonnage have the right of a way of smaller boats, simple . Always remember this, in case of a collision, both captains are at fault, not as your girlfriend said " he is 100% responsible ", that term does not exist in maritime law , both are 50% responsible regardless, both captains had the opportunity to avoid the collision. You could have used the radio just to let them know you were there , instead you used the " hit me if you dare" and trust me my friend, boats your size sink in less than 3 minutes. The same happened to us in the Indian Ocean with an oil tanker, I made a quick call on the radio to just let them know that "... we were there and if they can see me ... " . The tanker responded within seconds " .. yes we can see you .. have a great trip .. out " . That did not take more than 20 seconds. Again my advice, educate yourselves, acquire knowledge and if you do, a new world will open up for you and your sailing adventures will be more and more pleasurable. Happy sailing days ahead and be well my sailor friend.
First, there is no Right of way in law. Second, there is no larger vessel is stand on Rule Please quote which Rule you are referencing. Third, both skippers would not be 50% responsible. That percentage would be determined by a court
Never heard of this channel before. Stumbled across it. After this one video it's easy to figure out why it's got less than 500 subscribers. Not coming back. Cheerio.
I watched as much as I could if you take orBring a sailor no matter what or who you are takes a bad ass and 100% effort. You need some help before the new venture.looks fun but if your state of mind is bad I truely' believe I will be hard. Good luck
I do have pineapple and yes they have sold to north sail. But Kames daughter still works in the loft and he is around checking in things every once in a while.
Yes, I have sailed / cruised this area a good bit. Also came up from Panama to SFO. Spent 2 yrs in Sea of Cortez wonderful cruising. The scariest encounter we had was off the coast of Nicaragua. Very similar to your issue. Just my wife and I aboard. And on your crossing situation with the mega yacht. Im assuming you were using the clouds to observe any bearing changes. If the yacht was slipping back on the background, in this case the clouds, you will pass in front. It is very accurate. No change, collision course guaranteed. We loved cruising Mexico and spent nearly 3 yrs total. La Paz was our favorite city. Our favorite area was Agra Verde through Loretto and the islands in between. Great and amazing sea life and diving.
LOL Bunch of inexperienced gringos. Wasted their time when someone else could have had a genuine emergency. And my god, get some experience and stop being a douche about oncoming boats. You see them, you immediately take steps to avoid, even if you think you have the "right of way." You had plenty of time to react. But hey, you seem like a guy who's never wrong..gonna get you in trouble.
cool project man, but you need to take your video editing up at least half a notch: show us the folding prop when you are talking about it, not in an extra clip at the end. Personally, I hope you DON'T waste your time on trying to make the videos seem "professional" and instead do boat stuff and tell us what worked and what didn't, but at least some bare basic cutting in some photos or other video to show what you are talking about instead of your face is needed. Taking videos without talking, and than narrating over them later can also be a great workflow that doesn't necessarily even use more of your time. You briefly mention relevant stuff about your setup without explaining any of it (cutting in a clip of the engine room during hydrogeneration would have been great here. With a bit of organization you can recycle good footage in a fraction of the time of making new footage). Is there another video somewhere where we can can see all the stuff that is making the noise you talk about? I would be tempted to solve that problem isntead of getting a folding prop, but I am sure you thought of that already so I'm just sitting here wondering why. Part of my plan with converting to electric was to use a giant, cheap, fix-blade prop, but it seems you went that route already and didn't like it too much... keep the updates coming.
Right now I am definitely rushing the video production. I appreciate the ideas and am trying to improve those skills while maintaining a schedule and the actual boat work takes priority. Maintaining archive footage has been an ongoing challenge, it gets both time and money expensive fast. Getting a folding prop would both fix the noise issue and speed up our sailing but it may stop us from being able to do regen.
I think you adjusted the angle of the prop opposite to what is ideal for electric motors. Electric motors have high torque at low rpm so an angle that pushes a lot of water is better which you didn't do. Conversely, you will likely need an extra gear during regen, if possible, to generate sufficient since regen seems to require high RPM instead of torque.
We had the prop pitched to the motor manufacturer recommendation and that was part of the problem. We have had to change many things that they recommended to us. What do you mean by push a lot of water?
Generally for electric motors the props will have more blades larger diameter .. the pitch tends to be greater. See what Windelo do on their boats see the barefoot doctors visit to see how they go it .. also see sailing Uma.. Your noise is coming in part from your belt tension .. The hull angle and prop angle to the water flow determine the re gen efficiency it needs to be as near to right angle and with no disturbance ahead of the prop. Look at the Earthling Rapid E 40 power cat from down under .. what is the power of your motor?
most boring and worst sailing channel i ever saw in my lifetime. uses clickbait and the "MOB"-guy should read some books about self improvement while he is on the boat.
I kind of wanted to subscribe but your absolute incapability of communicating left me with a seriously bad vibe. Talking down to her like a child, the disrespectful tone. Lying on your emergency call (telling emergency services the visitors asked for alcohol when just moments before you plainly stated they hadn't but you told them you didn't have any to head off the question. That's just you inflating the 'story' you are telling.) So for me the entire title and video was just click bait. You weren't almost robbed, you almost got to trade with locals. You weren't on a collision course, you were sailing on a big body of water that other people are using as well. But, you do you boo. We all get to choose what kind of energy we bring into our lives. Yours isn't the kind anyone needs.
This was my exact internal response to this video, as well. But it looks like they've been posting videos for 5 years and have only managed 477 subscribers. I've been subscribing to sailing channels recently but this is one I'll definitely pass on. All the worst millennial-vibe tendencies are coming through a little too strong.
