Yes I always thrift my harvest baskets! You can find so many beautiful, unique ones for a great price that way! Also, always check the garden pots/tools isle…I have found some amazing deals on large ceramic pots for growing tomatos/herbs on our patio!
@@spor3bunny squirrels are my biggest animal annoyance, and for them I use cayenne pepper or physical barriers like chicken wire. For bugs I don’t really anything, I just let beneficial and predatory insects do their thing (save for picking off a few hornworms here and there)
Harvesting peppers without gloves is a dangerous game ... I did that once ( I washed my hands thoroughly , or at least I thought I did) , then I went to the bathroom..... I burned for hours. I definitely learned my lesson.
I've never grown loofah, but I've grown plenty of other cucurbits, and typically when they are only producing male flowers it is a stress reaction. Not enough or too much sun, not enough or too much water, soil is nutrient depleted or overcrowded, maybe too many weeds or other plants nearby.
ive never seen anyone water their compost but u do u bud? i grew up around farms and large gardens, and afaik/ime watering it removes any protections from the elements that would normally be provided by the top layer. itll break down whether its wet or dry, but people also use a normal compost bit and dont buy a postable fence for it so *shrug* /gen
I started composting out of two broken old coolers I had. They've served me for years. I noticed a mouse coming to try and snack on my food scraps, so I make sure to bury them better and I put out a few snap traps around my coolers. My composter grew its own tomato plant last year and this year I have pulled potatoes, carrot seeds, and corn stalks from my compost coolers lolol I live in the upper of a duplex and have a large sunny balcony on the second floor in Wisconsin, so I plant in pots because weather here is extreme. My 70 yr old hippy neighbor has gotten me obsessed with growing things and being a broke millennial with zero hope in the future, it's important I learn how to grow food in varying conditions now so I can feed my family when the GOP destroys farmers with their fascist 25 plan.
@@gardenzaddy I was ELATED when I harvested potatoes. Really gave me the positive reinforcement to get a few more herbs and seeds and "seed" what happens :)
newspaper is fine, agreed on the water and home proximity though. that is quite literally asking for an infestation especially somewhere city/suburbish like it seems op lives
@@AnthonyWariner as I mentioned in the video I’m aware adding meat and even some food scraps will make it more prone to rodents, but given that my goal is to compost everything once living I am just adjusting to a more appropriate setup.
Bad idea...when meat decomposes, it can become infected with E. coli, salmonella or other bacteria. It can then transfer to the plants you use the compost on, especially veggies you later plan on eating.

..and the more you CAN eat them, the more you WANT to eat them. They are addicting. I put hot sauce and fiery peppers on almost everything, and delicious habaneros are my favorite!
@@TheKjoy85 oh no! I’m curious what the compound in pineapple is that triggers it? There is some overlap in nerve response to peppers, black pepper and ginger but I haven’t heard pineapple.
@@gardenzaddy I don't know why it happens. I can eat a little bit of black pepper, but it can get uncomfortable. I have absolutely no problems with ginger and we cook with it regularly. My brother will add a variety of hot sauces to his food if he wants it spicy. He discovered the joys of spicy food when he was 5 and was introduced to Tobasco.
@@tarrynitup2024 they do take quite a while to produce, and produce fewer peppers compared to smaller hot peppers. An organic phosphorus-forward fertilizer or amendment may do you well!
Ah' this is awesome! I also love to eat peppers with all of my meals! Spicy food is the best! My family and I will have to try making them into powder sometime! Gardening is so nice. There's nothing like growing your own food. Love the video! 🙌
@@onmyway7363 not all that frequently, so it could be a factor! Capsaicin has a ton of health benefits, and the guy who developed the Carolina reaper got into growing peppers for their cancer-fighting properties.
