I want everyone to notice here the right leg (trail) is nearly straight in the backswing. This is NOT taught in the modern game, but by doing so, you are presetting to swing from in to out in the downswing. If you watch Couples, Hogan, Stewart , Snead and other great ball strikers they had a loose/flexible right knee to almost vertical. They did not brace the right leg and build resistance with the core. This enables the golfer to maintain a centered swing which equates to consistent striking. Faldo messed me up with his beach ball drills. Know this, the hips pivot or tilt, they DO NOT 'turn.' The great strikers tilt their hips and wave back pain goodbye. Snead was the king of longevity. Rumor is Jones was hitting 300 yard drives back in the day and gets nowhere near the credit he deserves. He was also a man of integrity and his character is an example for all of us.

Liked and subbed this great player shouldn't be forgotten, thirteen majors, retired at age of twenty eight years old ,three degrees, practiced law his last two years of competition. Went months without touching a club and usually won the tournament he played. He was unbeaten his last year in golf winning the grand slam in one season. He practiced a little more since that was his goal as he wanted to retire with a great year. He use to give pros two strokes a side when playing friendly matches a reporter ask tommy armour why they accepted the strokes, tommy said bobby was that gd good thats why.

Question: what clubs did he say he uses at 2:11? How do those translate to the clubs people have today? What’s a mashing iron?

Simply think of the trail hip twitch to start the upswing immediately followed by the lead left hip pull to start the downswing. Watch all of Bobby Jones tapes and you will see what I mean. CHEERS. DON’t WORRY: SWING HAPPY 😊🥂👍

Jones was undoubtably the finest Amateur to ever Play the game, however, one, as an amateur, and workin sellin golf real estate, Jones did not have to worry about the life or pressures that a Pro Player faced, of not only winning enough money to pay for the food on his family's table, the roof over his children's heads, & the clothes on their backs, then they had to have a Club Head Pro Teaching job to supplement their meager winnings or travel the country like a carnival vagabond earning money in exhibitions. On Monday Jones went back to work to a steady pay check. Secondly, there were very few Pros in his era that were of his caliber, however one that was, and was somewhat of a mentor to Jones, Walter Hagen, humiliated Jones 12&11 in a 72 hole Match Play event, then gave Jones the best advice of anyone when, prior to the match he and Tommy Armour were practically beggin Jones to turn Pro so the three could travel the country Playin big buck exhibitions, though following the thrashing, Hagen told Jones to remain an amateur, that Hagen did not think that Jones had "the stomach" to Play for Pay. However, as an Am, Jones could forget beatings like Hagen just administered to him. And if Jones didn't forget?? Who cares as he could just return to his "real world" and steady paycheck on Monday, with his physical and mental game having no effect on his professional life. Jones, who was known to be insecure due in large part to his overbearing bearing father, the "colonel," would have to carry those mental scars into the next week's tournament, where he would be Playin for the food on his family's table, clothes on their backs and the roof over their heads. Jones, who was seriously thinkin of turnin pro orior to his his match with Hagen, which was THE most publicized sporting event of the day, which he expected to win, wisely decided to remain an amateur, continue to Play for crystal, medals🏅 and silver🏆 , and cash that steady pay check. Even though Jones would win 10 of his 13 majors after his humiliation at the hands of Hagen, he would state more than once that by Playing as an amateur, he was not facing the same pressures as a Pro, due to the fact that if he missed a shot, a putt of got humiliated as he did in his match against Hagen, his life and world would not change as he knew how much money that he was earning that week regardless of how great or ooorly that he Played, so the only thing that took a beating was his ego, versus if he was a Pro, those pressures would be magnified many fold as he would be Playing for the food in his refrigerator, the clothes on his family's back and the roof over their heads. He didn't need that pressure and he didn't think that golf would be fun anymore, as it would be a job. He was bright enough not to let his ego drive his decision making!! Unlike Walter Hagen, Tommy Armour and basically all of the Pros, Bobby Jones played with a safety net underneath him, which no Pro ever had the luxury of having underneath them. Simply, Jones was the Greatest Amateur Ever, which is a hell of a feat, though he could not compete against the Professional GOATs of their respective eras, and it has nothing to do with their physical game. It has everything to do with their mental games!! The GOATs are Pros!! Bob Jones was an Amateur Fairways & Greens 4ever My Friends⛳️ RP

i've watched all the jones videos over the last 40+ years from vhs to dvds and now on youtube. i guess when they first came out in the 1930's they must of been shown in movie theaters between features or privately if you could afford the film reels and a projector and screen. they stand the test of time and still fun and informative to watch the master.

i've always thought booby jones' grip to be quite strong and you can see his left thumb is just about on the back side of the handle. my own grip is almost as strong, that's what works for me.

Obviously, Bobby Jones had no secrets. But, it may be that some aspects of his swing were secret even to him. And, when you look closely you can just see that he presses the index finger side of his left hand towards his right hand in the start of his downswing. It's a thing called talent.

His take-away of the club goes way inside, and it would be frowned upon by current Instructors. The irony is that his swing would have been ‘corrected’ if he were a young Golfer today.

I swung best when I was very loose... The more I tried to improve my swing, the worse it got and now I find myself back to a pause to stay loose. I have to revisit this simple way of thinking about the swing. "Coaches" seem overall just do more harm than good these days.........
@bobt5778

His swing was also born from the equipment of that period. It had to be free flowing because of the twisting and flexing of the wooden shafts of the time. His swing would not correlate to today's equipment.
@DavidObryan-kd2dn
@DavidObryan-kd2dn 3 месяца назад
Incorrect. The year he won the grand slam he was offered to have advanced technology steel shafts fitted into all his clubs, he allowed the steel to be fitted into his woods but maintained the hickory in his irons and went on to win the grand slam of the day. There has only ever been one golfing Genius, and that was Robert Tyre Jones, his 13 majors in 7 years has never been equaled and the great Jack Nickolas said that it will probably never be equaled.

13 majors, his am wins were with some of the best golfers in the world as there wasn't much money to turn pro. Won 3 British opens out of 4 entries won 4 us opens lost one when he called a penalty on himself, his playing partner said he didn't see it, bobby said " i did" later he said you might as well praise me for not robbing a bank.won 5 us ams, 1 British am. Had a lifetime win percentage of 41( yes 41%)He retired at the age of 28 years old, went months between majors without touching a club and passed the bar for law and had other degrees all while playing golf around the world. He was the ultimate amateur, being an amateur is not that you're bad it means you have a love of the game and respect for its rules. There were a lot of great amateur players throughout history, i chuckle when a utube instructor refers to someone not very good as an amateur.

Tiger once said that only 2 golfers ever owned their swing, Ben Hogan and Moe Norman. The ex-president of the Hartford Open once told me that Moe Norman was the best ball striker ever. Ben Hogan's swing influenced a ton of golfers and who knows how many more majors he would have won had it not been for that car accident. Bobby's swing is so graceful, and picture-perfect. Unfortunately, a lot of people forget about Bobby Jones because he played so long ago but he had 13 majors which was the most until Jack Nicklaus surpassed him. They didn't have the same number of majors in Bobby's day as they do today. I still think that Jack Nicklaus is the greatest but an argument could be made for Jones especially when you consider he did it for fun, not as a profession.

What a lot of people don't no is Jones was a natural left hander, but played right handed. He played back handed. A direct quote from Jones, " I like to feel I'm hitting a backhand blow, with the right hand catching up with the left only at impact".
@ag358
@ag358 8 месяцев назад
Hogan was the player who was left handed and switched to right, he did it because there wasn't a lot of left handed clubs around, bobby was right handed with everything he did, he started golf at age 6, Stewart maiden cut him a set and bobby followed Stewart around the course. He did say it was a backhanded blow and related how hard it was to keep his dominant hand out of the fight as he said.

Really, the true MASTER of knowing the golf swing...every player after Bobby Jones, have needed these principles to produce great golf. Without a doubt, Bobby Jones is the Guru with swinging of the golf club. Here we are more than 100 years later, and his input has influenced the entire game. We OWE Bobby Jones. Even arrogant Jack Nicklaus should say his prayers to Jones.
