New Music USA has expanded the creation, discovery, and community of new music in the US since 2011. We believe in a vibrant future for new music in all its forms, and our community includes anyone who is shaping the future of music creation and sound. #WeAreNewMusic
We empower and connect US-based music makers, organizations, and audiences by providing funding, fostering new connections, deepening knowledge and working as an advocate for the field. We work in collaboration with our community in response to pressing needs and to amplify the diverse voices of music creators. We envision a thriving and equitable ecosystem for new music.
What Wuorinen says at the end contradicts, in a beautiful way, all of the elitism of his earlier comments. It is JUST music the same as anything else. I love his music just as much as I love rock... the major shortcoming among modernists like Wuorinen is in believing their music to be ABOVE the others. Once we recognize it as just one (quite valid!) musical statement among myriad others, we can learn to love the music without compromising ourselves for the future and without becoming cynical freaks. Wuorinen's music ROCKS if you can just view it in the opposite way to which he himself largely viewed it... the same can be said of the music of Boulez, Stockhausen, Schoenberg, Ruggles, etc.
@@brturner Looks like it's actually the title track from Soledad. The part in the video is about 4 minutes into the song. Glad I found it and thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
wuorinen was a brilliant elitist drunkard whose aesthetic pronouncements - especially on what counts as "legitimate" art and "high culture" - could have been written by ayn rand or any other authoritarian hack
Hello, How are you? I saw your RU-vid channel and understand you are a very hardworking youtuber. Very nice video on your channel, I really enjoyed it. According to your channel, I noticed that you have good quality videos but the videos are not getting views and subscribers are not increasing. You need to optimise your channel and do video SEO to reach your target audience. Otherwise, if you upload videos to your channel throughout the year, none of your videos will get viral views. If your channel is optimised a little and if the videos are SEO then your channel will rank very fast and your channel will grow
It's really good to hear him talk about the period snd the hopes and exploration, the almost irrelevance of pitchrows in his music and the not absolutenecessity of the 2ndViennese school. Id like to hear him, read speak in different decades before this. Need to hear more of his vocal music and what texts he used. What is Meaningful and enduring, standards, exclusion. What he ends with is frightening. TiaLeon shows us how to keep cultural legacies, intelligence and folkculture alive in classical music. I dont know if Wuorinen's extremities are really so difficult but they are a narrow type of fun.Berio to me included almost everything and this was a great decision. Berio was perhaps less insulated in Academia.
Smash and grab style of cello playing. Upbeats horribly heavy and jabbed. How to massacre both the cello and the piece in one easy lesson. Poor cello, poor Bach, poor audience.
the problem with art these days is that we can have literally the finest art in the world in places no one knows about it and never will know about it. It makes me deeply sad.
Saw your name on a nytimes Jazz list. I've been listening to "enthralled not by her curious blend". Oh gosh. I heard something of myself in it and I live on a Polynesian island thousands of miles away in the Pacific Ocean. You make it okay to experiment but your music is true and soothing too. Thank you from American Samoa. Faafetai tele.
This video made me quit my music career and drop out of jazz school. I was in it for the wrong reasons, and I am beyond grateful that Milford made me realize it. 0:40
