Depends on your use case and budget tbh… it’s not a bad camera at all, but since making this video I have switched to FX30 as I needed something more video focussed… I also have access to full frame bodies and lenses already so shooting APS-C was a bit of a struggle for me to get used to as I missed the DOF you can achieve with full frame. So personally for me, it didn’t suit… but for you? Only you could know… but it’s otherwise a great camera and very powerful APS-C camera… I just prefer full frame. For my video work I stop down more, but photography I usually shoot wide open for shallow DOF

What cable are you using? I have 3 Tether Tools Cables and unfortunately only one of them works perfectly fine for me. The other two seem to be temperamental. Ironically I have used a generic 5m USB-C cable from Amazon which works smoothly, but just transfer noticeably slower than TetherTools. Try changing your cable as that’s one thing you didn’t mention in your comment. Otherwise I would have advised the PC Remote Function settings to be checked.

Is the image thats imported into LR, from the tether cable, a RAW file still? If not, can we at least do live edits, save them and then reapply that edit onto the RAW?
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang 5 дней назад
These are RAW files coming through… so you can live edit right away and be done! I didn’t cover this in the video but it’s possible to change settings to speed up image transfer to review quicker and just have 2MP jpgs transfer and keep raws on camera. But to answer your question tethering works with raw transfers so you can edit right away. But if you are finding only 2MP Jpgs are coming over, check your camera settings to ensure both raw and jpg are transferring. This would be a camera setting and not a Lightroom setting.

What do you prefer mv7 plus or rode podmic usb
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang 10 дней назад
Purely based off audio quality I prefer the Shure MV7+ But it’s a significant cost difference to the Rode… and my personal choice would be to just buy MV7 + MVX2U for the same price… But if you’re just going to focus between these two mic’s, then it’s purely down to price really as I think both are good, one is better than the other, but it’s also more expensive… But for the same money, my preference would be to go with the combo I suggested in the video… I wouldn’t ever think to use the MV7+ as an XLR mic as you lose the LED lights and all those processing abilities which are USB only features when using as XLR, then it just becomes an MV7X which is cheaper…
@Daxverse
@Daxverse 10 дней назад
@@leo_hoang first of all thanks a lot for replying 🙏, and the last para was eye opening, nobody in RU-vid mentioned that😂. For the combo you suggested, it's actually costlier than getting a MV7 plus itself in the place where I live(india) and also I've seen many PPL saying that MV7 plus on usb just doesn't sound good as compared to the XLR connection. So I'm just super confused rn, also what about the rode xdm 100, is it any good. @@Daxverse no problem - my view is I would not buy the microphone so I can switch between XLR or USB. I’d typically be one or the other as I don’t tend to move my desk mic around a lot. Once it’s setup, it’s setup… The video provides audio samples for both mics so you can listen and judge for yourself. If you can’t hear the difference, then just go for whatever is cheapest… Or consider the older MV7… it’s still a good mic and has the exact same capsule as the new MV7+ I might actually record a video to discuss this “what mic to buy” topic…

Are you sure that the trademark logo is a marker of a counterfeit across all generations? I suspect the counterfeiters based this against an older design or different market, hence why it exists. The reason I ask is that I have a SM7b that I am unsure about. It passes every checkbox apart from the trademark symbol and the serial code, presenting as a Chinese greymarket unit. I haven't been able to test it as the preamp that came with it is a knock off and introduces a lot of noise. However, the wires, the backing plate, the counter-sunk screws, the length and flex of the cable, the grommets, the dome of the XLR plug, the height of the capsule, the bushings and the positioning nuts ability to hold tension all seem to check out. It also lacks the German misspelling too. Thanks for making a comprehensive video, this is one of the better ones out there. I think an impedance test of the capsule using a LCR meter might be the next step.

Thank you - the trademark logo is present on older mics which is a detail I forgot to mention. A lot of the newer mics have flooded the market though, and most people would want a newer mic anyway. Thanks for the video, very helpful. I just bought two fake SM7B's from Ebay. I went through the steps in your video. I was replacing two units that were flooded in Hurricane Ian, so I was tempted buy the price on Ebay. It turns out they are fake! I did not realize they were fake until I used them on a podcast next to two real ones. I had tested them on a stand when I received them and they sounded good. The atrocious handling noise during recording was what made me look into it further. During the recording, if you so much as rubbed the desk you could hear it through the mic. Also the paint on the fakes that I bought is different, much shinier, almost glossy black. The audio cartridges under the wire guard was not straight in either unit, they were almost touching the wire guard/pop filter. Other things that I noticed: the rubber grommets were loose, the wire was longer than the originals, the colors of the internal wiring was incorrect. The back plate was painted on the back and sides (should be bare metal on the sides) The packaging looked good but the bags were zip locked (not correct), the box was shrink wrapped (not normal). I have asked for a refund from Ebay, waiting for a response

The RE27 is a rough one for me. I think it’s a bit too harsh/sharp/treble forward at default settings, but using the switch to cut the high end it sounds excellent, arguably better than even the RE20. Just can’t justify purchasing a mic that needs its default frequency response shaped to sound optimal. I’m sure that treble boost is excellent for radio, just not for desktop broadcasting/streaming.
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang 20 дней назад
Agreed - I don’t like the default sound. Well, I didn’t like it when I had it before, this mic to me doesn’t bother me as much on the default setting. Not sure if I just got used to it, the last mic I had was faulty, or the overall updates as affected the sound in anyway… but this one I have it doesn’t feel as harsh… I wish I had a Made In USA one so I can compare. But I do like the extra brightness from RE27 as my voice is otherwise a bit flat. It may be possible to process the RE20 to sound brighter/cleaner but outside of presets and templates, that is beyond me at the min so the RE27 gives me that little boost.

So you return it to the seller because it lacks functionality? You did not realize that when you purchased it? Sheesh! I grow weary of reviews that diss an entry level product because it lacks features on more expensive, more fully featured products. Expecting the MVX2U to sound as good as your desktop interface is foolish right out of the chute - an apples to kumquats sort of thing. Nobody should expect a tiny device intended to be tiny and portable to outgun a larger, more expensive device designed for the desktop. I suppose you expect your phone microphone to sound as good as an external, aftermarket microphone. If you properly set gain and use the microphone properly, you will hear your voice and disregard the lorries rolling along the street outside. Playing just noise is a poor demo - research signal-to-noise ratio and you will be happy - but the fact one mic picked up more noise on one DAW - but the other less so on ANOTHER DAW means and proves nothing useful. You should run both microphones through the same DAW - recording two tracks at once. Using different recording applications can easily mean different gain levels - no matter what the meter or setting in the DAWs indicate, respectively. They are not likely to really be the same level, even if you set them to zero dB. Different levels of background noise may simply indicate differences in how each the software application works. The RE-20 sounds congested and boomy with unnaturally excessive bass - either Mic A and Mic B sounds much better with your voice in your particular venue - they sound much more natural, in fact you sound pretty dang good on your own - the RE-20 adds deleterious proximity effect which may sounds may sound cool, like a DJ, at first - but it is extremely tiring (fatiguing) and sounds artificial and processed when it is not. Go back to either Mic A or B on their respective interfaces. While I disagree with some of your points and procedure, it is overall a well done, to the point, well scripted video. Good luck and drive on soldier. JT

I appreciate the detailed feedback - but I don’t recall saying I returned it due to lack of functionality? I may need to rewatch to check this, but I refunded because the main feature it’s supposed to provide for me isn’t performing as good as I would like, I.e clean audio with SM7B… You have valid points about having a scientific test going into the same DAW, but this is how I would use each item. I would record directly into Rodecaster Pro II or directly into Premiere Pro via MVX2U… I’m not an audio expert and across many videos I’ve explicitly been open about this. I’ve seen other reviews who have done more scientific tests and they have concluded the same thing about the noise floor. The one video I saw which didn’t flag the high noise floor was from Shure themselves, and if you see their screenshot, they have high pass filter maxed out. So I don’t feel my tests or conclusions are unreasonable. Ultimately I’m just sharing my findings. If you decide to do your own testing and comparisons, please do share the video with me as genuinely I would be interested to see how you’d run the tests… I’ve returned the MVX2U now so I can’t run this back. I thought this comment would have been in reference to the Shure SM7B video I made but the comment was on Mv7 video. Regarding MV7, I’ve checked my mic against a real MV7X and a friend authentic MV7, my MV7’s wiring is different. So def a fake. It also sounds different also. SM7B I did have an email confirming there are generational manufacturing differences in general, but they didn’t confirm my specific mics Hope that helps

Is there difference in sound between made in china and made in mexico ?
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang Месяц назад
Unfortunately I’ve not tried a “Made In Mexico” one and I wouldn’t be the best person to check. I would imagine they would be the same, if not close enough, but the majority of the ones I’ve seen are Made In China so I suspect that’s the main manufacturer.

@@leo_hoang Thank you a lot for the reply, I get one and it’s also Made in China and sounds super good, so can’t imagine the units which are Made in Mexico to have big differences.. at least hope they sounds the same because can’t find someone on internet who have both and make a comparison between them

If i ever come across one Made in Mexico I will do a comparison… I’ve seen other comparisons for SM58 and those have little to no difference… so I would imagine it be the same for SM7B

The cartridge and chassis are the exact same part number so I highly doubt they sound any different.

No idea what is going on. I was looking for video online because i saw many many offers from ebay who are selling for 100 euro. (NEW)🤨
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang Месяц назад
The price sounds too good to be true… eBay sellers usually use stock images anyway, so it would be hard to judge before buying. Honestly at that price I would be too skeptical and just pass on it… unless you feel eBay will protect you as a buyer against fakes, you could give it a shot… but I’m almost certain they would be fakes at that price

About memory cards, we are some that have two or more Cameras ! That said, I cannot see the use for micro cards, 4 SD cards would be better !

I actually use the Micro-SD for drones and audio recorders… so it’s quite handy… but 4 SD cards would be good…

After u have rated in Lightroom, and if I take all the photo to photoshop, will those rate still available in photoshop?
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang Месяц назад
My workflow doesn’t require me to use ratings within Photoshop, so I unfortunately can’t answer this for you… I usually edit within LR but only take a few images which require heavier editing to Photoshop… once I rate, open in PS, edit, save, and come back to LR, the rating remains on the new edited TIFF file. Hope that helps

How come when I use the MV7X, it doesnt pick my voice up when im more than an inch away from the mic... i litterally have to have my mouth on it to use it... am i doing something wrong?
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang Месяц назад
As you have the MV7X, this means you need an XLR connection into an audio interface. So I would first check your audio interface settings to see if you have set your GAIN levels appropriately. I’ve had another viewer had a similar issue and through talking with him, I discovered he was using an XLR to 3.5mm converted cable. This won’t work. You need an interface to power your mic. But if you talk me through your exact setup and how everything is connected, I can try help. You may infact just have a faulty mic. I have another video on my channel where I discuss fake mics, you may have a faulty or fake mic. It’s worth checking out

@@leo_hoang Hey Leo, thanks. The mic was purchased from Shure's official site so I believe its real. I basically connected the mic directly into my laptop with an XLR cable i purchased from amazon. it works but only when my mouth is right up againts it. I guess what youre saying is to make the mic clear (from a distance) i'll need an interface? thanks for the reply bro.
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang Месяц назад
@@ElvenReacts as far as I’m aware, it’s impossible to connect directly via XLR to a laptop without an interface. These mics are best used 6” away from your mouth to get the best sound and minimal ambient sound. Something doesn’t sound quite right with your setup. So if purchased from Shure directly, it sounds like something is off with your setup.

What matter is the sound, if they sound the same, I don't mind if it is fake or original. if they look the same and sound the same but cheaper why not !.
@leo_hoang
@leo_hoang Месяц назад
At the time of me making this video, I wasn’t sure if it was sounding as it should… but it does matter also in the sense you don’t want to spend money on something you think is genuine, but is fake… I got scammed years before with the cheaper MV7 and it was very cheap and sounded good to me at the time so I wasn’t upset to discover it was fake… so I do understand your point to a degree. But I still don’t want to be deceived with a purchase of anything. Overall the general consensus is that my mics are genuine. So that’s a positive
