We love vintage typewriters! We are Laura & Rob and we repair, service, and clean up vintage typewriters. (We do NOT refurbish or restore). This channel is where we upload typing demonstrations and tutorials for all of the typewriters we repair. They are all for sale on our website (or our Etsy shop). You can find us on Instagram and Facebook as well. We'd love to "meet" you on one of our social platforms.
I don't know why this was recommended for me, but I've always been kinda curious about how typewriters work. This was very interesting and educational, thank you
I have that same typewriter but it often skips a letter when I\m typing and I have to keep backspacing when it does that. But it's nearly impossible to catch every skip. Any idea how to fix the darned thing?
Hello.... what does that mean ??...reverse ribbon ??...the ribbons go from right to left....they cant go the other way.. (left to right....Let me know please....Thank you !
Mine is a woodgrain finish 1930 model, sold new in Missoula MT. Lovely machine! Owned for over 30 years. Works like a charm. I see Jot And Tittle is still extant, good to know a proper ribbon can still be obtained.
OK I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles with taking the ribbon cover off! I was looking at one at the antique shop and was so scared I was going to break it while I was examining it
Hi there. Is the 210 a 10 or 12 inch carriage? What other 200 series models are there? I have a like-new super 12, and I really like it, but I'm thinking of going to a 10" carriage. - Mike
This is my first ever manual typewriter in my life. My mother found it one time while antiquing with my aunt. It was in great condition but a shop located in Riverside, CA (Typewriter Muse) managed to get it into working condition. I’m so glad that this was my first manual typewriter and even they said they always have a blast seeing these Japanese machines. Now if only I could figure out how to set tabs.
Check the playlists for 1960s Smith Corona and you will find more videos for the Coronet Super that will probably show the font. This is a very old video so don't remember what the typeface was. But I'm certain it wasn't cursive.
Excellent video - appreciate the details on function and your insights on your experience with your Sterling. Beautiful color! Just bought a Corsair Deluxe and am hooked. Will now have my eye out for a Sterling 5AX. Thank you!
I have a 5AX 1963 green Sterling as well and I particularly like its LOUD bell. I also have two Classic 5X models from 1964 that are identical to the Sterling except the bell is smaller and not nearly as loud. All are just super typewriters.
I’ve never felt so seen and also instructed at the same time. I’m on a galaxie twelve and I hate that it’s so slow to type and requires so much force, but I’m in love with typewriters. I wrote my first paper in school (11 - 12 yrs) on a typewriter and then the internet took over the world. I learned to type on a word processor, but I learned to type on a keyboard. I’d love to transition.
At least you got started with typewriters and know what to look for in your next one. Might I suggest looking for a 1950s 5TE series by Smith Corona? (Smith Corona Electric). It's my favorite.
I just got one of these! I collected typewriters back in the early 2000s, and I had an Adler that I loved, but I felt like it was cheap because it was plastic and I had never heard of the brand (Yet I knew of Triumphs) , but I would tell people like I was shocked that it was the best I had in spite of being plastic and a "weird brand" (I was such a noob) but now I know that's not a fluke and I'm far from the only one impressed by them. Anyway I recently got a J4 like this and it reminds me of my old one so much, but it has this cool look. I have a hard time getting my non typewriter friends to show enthusiasm about this obsessive hobby, but this one has all my movie friends jealous (because it looks so much like the Shining Typewriter)
It seems the Adler J5 began to be badged with the small red crown above the Adler name in 1970. I would think your model is likely a ‘68 or ‘69. ( Sourced from TDB.) Thanks for this very nice and helpful video.
Was so lucky when I happened upon one just like this one in a resale shop hiding in its case under a table. The price $20. I snatched it up and it types like a dream. It's actually my favorite one to type on.
